- The first iPhone hit store shelves on June 29, 2007. CBS News was able to test a model two days before the release. "You zoom in or zoom out by pinching or unpinching with your fingers," CBS News' David Pogue said at the time.

i’ll never forget when they first came out - so rare to see one in public but so captivating, what a time.
I remeber my dad switched he and my mom to att to get it my mom was like was this when he brought them home. Took her a will to get into it
Me either. Was a camp counselor that summer so I hadn’t been out and about. A parent had one in august when he picked up his kids and I was like woooaahhh. Gone for a summer and the whole world changed.
1:52 And they thought THAT price was unbelievable.
748$-848$ today, for 8 gb of memory is it a high price
God if only I’d been able to buy Apple stock back then.
Literally no one knew how important this invention would be to society
It is so cool to see these archival videos. This was nearlly two decades ago. And yet the buzz is still very real. If Apple comes out with another new phone, there will be a line of people waiting to get it.
Eh, 16 years.
@@cheapskateaquatics7103”nearly”
The buzz is still real? Not even CLOSE to the same buzz that iPhone got when it was first released.
iphone 1 was $500 this is $3500 lmao
@@asdfoifhvjbkaos Which iPhone are you talking about? I just bought the 15 pro and it was only $1000... a far cry from the $3500 you mention. Are you living outside the United States or something?
I miss that era ):
The fact that this is from the archives makes me feel old. I remember it like it was yesterday.
The hype is still hyping that I still want a first-gen iPhone today in 2023!
2024 now
When someone show how to zoom in and zoom out on a photo I was like “Wow so cool” Now it’s just “meh”
I used to have a boring Sony ericsson as a kid with buttons. One of my friends had about that time an Iphone 4 which was super popular. I though it was super cool when you can see the videos, sending a text message when you have the keyboard on the screen, emojis and download games.
I'd literally give my right arm to go back to those boring ericcsons. I hate smartphones so much now
This was my first iPhone. I loved it so much. . Seems so crazy that we’re now up to iPhone 15 and 1 TB of storage.
Still incredible
I'll never forget in the early 2000s very few people could afford apple.. So I was like I don't get the hype. I will never give in to Apple. fast forward I own MacBook, iPhone , apple watch, and AirPods lmaooo.
Same lol, I think we were haters haha
@@Catnapivy 🤣🤣🤣 I'm hardcore apple .even have the stickers on my Yeti mug, and car now..
@@iTzShakenJoE I like apple too is a lot of it overly priced ? Yes I enjoy it though
Nostalgic!
Anyone else watching this in 2025?
I remember my brother used to have one. When i saw it the first time, i was surprised and amazed by it.
This was a phone only rich people could afford. Back in the day, almost all the people I knew had Samsung, Nokia and Blackberry. I loved my My BlackBerry! I still have it and it works. Nokia and Samsung were really good. Only one person I worked with had one. No one else out of hundreds of people.
It was an illusion of affordability that followed from cell service providers. Remember the $200 with a 2 year contract iPhones? Yeah….. the cost of the phone was subsidized in your bill. So your down payment was $200, thus, appearing more affordable.
That and not everyone had AT&T or was willing to switch. When they decided to come to T-Mobile and then finally Sprint last I think that’s when the world started catching on
Love looking back...
Jim Balsillie, the co-chief executive and co-chairmen of Research In Motion (RIM), on iPhone in 2007:
"As nice as the Apple iPhone is, it poses a real challenge to its users. Try typing a web key on a touchscreen on an Apple iPhone, that's a real challenge. You cannot see what you type."
“There’s no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share. No chance. It’s a $500 subsidized item,” said then-Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
Apple sold over 1.4 million iPhones resulting in a revenue of $630 million, in 2007. Rest is history.
not only that, but i remember every company immediately started releasing their own touchscreen version. and they were bot that good unti years later eith the samsung galaxy, htcl etc.
It was years ahead of the competition, they did it again with the Vision Pro
providing the actually sell that thing
lol no one is going to wear that thing in public or around people embarrassing
@@newbleppmore7855check the news again, that thing is EVERYWHERE
@@newbleppmore7855the future is here old man 😜😜😜😜
The apple vision pro is hardly comparable to this lol
I remember following the coverage of the launch back in January 2007 on Macrumors using my GPRS modem hooked up to my Windows XP machine. Broke, father died a few months earlier, didn't know where my life is going. I'm here and I have been able to buy some of Apple's most expensive gadgets over the past 10 years; gadgets I could only dream of owning. I would love to own a Vision Pro, but I think that money is better invested in the stock and saving for my future. Just like the first iPhone there will be cheaper and faster versions.
Yeah remember people were getting crazy phone bills from AT&T when it came out. I wish they only costed $500-$600 now lol
costed isn’t a word
@Afterlife7377 You should put "costed" in quotation marks.
Costed………. Is definitely a word.
If they would have hung onto it instead of using it, they would get $190,000 for it. Pretty good investment for 17 years
So trippy
I got an iPhone 4s in 2010 and had an iPhone ever since.
This changes our lives
My life is still miserable
For the worse yes.
...for the worst.
I’m genuinely curious if the vision pro will have this same effect. It’s hard to tell with this new era of AR/VR technically as from what I’ve seen the average tech user(s) are on the fence about this whole ordeal
No it won’t because it’s $3800
It kinda flopped no one bought it except for tech reviewers
And that was effectively the end of a Era my childhood when people had to go places to see people. People generally treated people with more respect back then.
Don't really get what you're going for here. We weren't cavemen before the first iPhone came out, people had been regularly calling each other instead of going places for decades already, and humans have never not been disrespectful to each other.
People still go places to see people now, and people still treat others with respect. What's your point?
@@mr.person4050no one has respect anymore & most ppl don't go places, the point is the old days are better
Zoomer brain @@CrimsonArcturus
@@Normal_macdonald Everyone who says stuff like this is just old AF, if it was so much better then get off the internet boomer.
Biggest jump of human history
🤣🤣 ohhhh...those were the days. The phones were sooo much cheaper. It's funny to see how much of a novelty they were then.
It is strange because as much as I like the technology I think we were far better off back then.
17 years ago, when Keypad is a norm and touch screen & screen keypad was a new concept and tech. Nowadays, every phone is touch screen, every phone is Screen keypad
My god this looks so antiquated now.
My how time goes by, we’ve come a long way and it’s definitely far from that $500 to $600 now lol
factor in inflation we are not far from the original price
Wow, I was a sophomore in high school when the iPhone came out. I remember that junior year there was just one guy who had it.
I remember seeing the first iPhone commercials on TV when I was about 7 or 8 I think, it was 2008 I reckon
where it all began.......
Velmi zajímavé a obsahově bohaté video
It’s been 17 yrs..😮 wow
no more ipod who saw that coming back then
This thing will never sell
haha right
Emotionless Vulcan 😂
1:58 AT&T was around before any of the other carriers we have now until they were forced to split the company. I'll take my chances.
Now there’s billions sold more celebrity use iPhone than anybody while I’m watching this on my 14 Pro Max
cool 🎉
I miss small size phones
You're the only one
David hasn’t aged at all
I came back from Iraq and didn't know this was coming out and got the blackberry pearl. Lol Then a buddy got the iphone I was like FML. Lol
And the rest is history.
Cute they thought it was expensive
The minimum wage back in 2007 was $5.15
So imagine spending the product for $500-$600 back then, but then have to pay the phone bill around $60 -$100 yeah, flip phones and blackberries were still the norm in the entire late 00s.
This will never catch on. It needs a physical keyboard
Yeah I stood in line. Now it's amazing to see how laughably primitive the first iphone was.

"Emotion-Free Vulcon"
Haha nerd.
The iPhone was exclusive to AT&T for its first five years, while the Blackberry was still the dominant smartphone and the first generation Android phones coming out. But by 2013, the iPhone would finally be available worldwide, and along with Android, the Blackberry craze would be over.
Is it just me or the reporter sounds like that host from mac address channel? The sound with the way he talk are just too similar, just with worse audio quality
In June 2007 I got a PS3 instead lol
I got my PS3 on launch day. 3/23/07.
I wasn’t even born then but my family used Nokias at the time. Didn’t use smartphones till 2010-11
I have tried to do the Android phones, but there is truly nothing like the iPhone. I will never switch. My mom is not a believer. LOL. She goes through life happy with her little LG.
My dad too lol
1:12 Thone
The day people became bots, human interaction became less and less, everything turned digital, people taking photos of their foods before they eat to show “their friends on instagram” toxic technology. Not blaming iPhones only, Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok. All of them.
Gone are the days of going to Blockbuster all excited to pick a video game and a movie. Same goes for Movie theaters, GameStop…it’ll most likely get worse than this in 20 years time.
Why does the quality look like its from the 90s
It doesn't
These people need to come n get a 15 from ya boy im here bored in the t mobile store hopin for a crowd 😂
a year later they had iphone 2 for less money lol
Who else saw the AirPods?
Where
16 I phone later lol
They created a monster
Didn’t get one until I got my first iPod 📱 and learned about iOS and iMessage 💬 😂 and then I got a Samsung android 🤖 phone 📱 for awhile until I got an iPhone 📱 14 pro max and Apple 🍎 is still king in USA 🇺🇸 but worldwide is android
Not a new iPhone in a year!
I thought there wasn’t even an iPhone 1😂
To small for my taste
Single handedly destroyed women
What did? Don’t say the iPhone did. I blame that on Yoga pants
@@DeepDishPizza where did they get the idea that wearing those is ok? Social media. On their smart phone
@@Normal_macdonald Nope. From Tv actually. Not their phone. Grow up!!!
@@DeepDishPizza ... Nah man it was trends and likes and validation online from their hpv addled friends lol
