Agreed! Sad when he passed in 1985.The game show world was truly saddened when Johnny O met his maker.RIP Mr.O

Totally agree. Nobody yelled "come on down!" like him. Just wasn't the same when Roddy took over on TPIR

JayJayinNYC: as one who grew up listening to Rod Roddy announce on The Price is Right, I both agree and disagree with your statement, but I do understand where you're coming from. I've watched lots of classic PIR episodes on UA-cam and Johnny O was good too. I, personally liked listening to both of them announce

Johnny was the brast. I attended s taping of Match Game they tped five shows a day on weekends and I made sure to see the afternoon shows when they taped three episodes. I lived within walking distance of CBS studio. After the session was finished for the dau audience members were given a raffle ticket IOf Jonny called out your number you got a prize, mine was called and I shouted right here from the back row.. Jog=hnny sai come right up here sweetheart. I said, Sweetheart?! I had long hair and was heavy set. He said oh it's a guy.., I git to the for of the steps and Johnny gave me $5 he said I thought you were a woman because you have big blanks. After IU finished laughing It took the five snd shook his hand and waked some on cloud nine and yes I still have the $5 from some I think it was thirty-five years later.

I can remember reading about that at some time in 1985, Mark Goodson had begun some sort of talk or discussion of bringing back Match Game, but that got shelved because Gene had already committed to that silly "Break the Bank" show and Johnny sadly passed on that October. You wonder what could have been if that idea materialized the way it could have, with Johnny with us that few more years and Gene coming back to host that version of MG.

Christian Inkster What I actually read was because when "Entertainment Tonight" had reported on the proposed revival, they mentioned Gene being age 70 at the time, which was actually slightly older than he actually was. Still, 69 was older than a lot of people thought he was, and they scrapped the revival plans.

That should have materialized, even if Johnny O passed. Rod Roddy would've been a great announcer here, too.

@@erikbunty2016 To me Rod along with all the succesive TPIR annoincers have been used way too much in front of the camera as opposed to Johnny who was always heard and sometimes seen.
It takes away from the announcer and makes him look like a wannabee host. Johnny's voice and delivery were his trademark, you didn't have to see him to know who he was.

I'm surprised a little at with Gene Rayburn busy with Break the Bank, Mark Goodson didn't think of Peter Marshall, since Peter knew how the game was played!!!

@@michaelpowell5266 That show would have failed if they brought it back then without Gene. Especially, if they used tbe same core group of stars. Gooson probably knew that too, which is why it wasn't made.

That sort of thing was part of the old radio tests, which included some tough words.
