Thank you for all your kind words ! The BT is 170 bpm in case you were wondering :-)
This song took me two and a half months to be able to play with other people and tonight im playing this song at a jam. Im so glad these backing track exist to help musicians.
Cool, took me a similar amount of time, the joys of music never cease!,have to play it daily to keep 'locked in for me.keep it up😊
i played this for a high school concert and now i’m using it for a jazz ensemble audition in college, oh how the tables thrn
me for the whole A section: oh yeah jazz woo
me during the bridge: OH GOD WHAT FRET IS THE Db7 ARPEGGIO ON AGAIN
hahaha !
Hey homie, I know this is a year old now but if it makes you feel any better, Paul Desmond probably wouldn't have hit all of those changes on this song anyway. Some of those chords are more of a comping flare and you don't need to automatically contextualize them. The important beats to hit are the CbMAj, BbMin, Abmin, and Gmaj, which should hopefully make it a little more manageable
Me over here using this backing track for a Tenor solo. It works great! thank you man!
Ah, that's better. Thanks guys, nice jam to get my mind off things :)
My kazoo is tuned. Im ready.
Thank you! Could have never made it through without this track. :)
At times I can hear the saxophone 🎷 in my head 😎
Excellent version to aid practice
Thanks Trevor !
My new CHROMATIC C harp is just what it needed!
Thanks really has helped me get my chops up on Take 5 !!
Thank you beautiful Melody!!!
Bro, this helped me soo much, Ty man, I can never repay you 🙏
Very nice. I wish there was an extended part for the (Desmond) solo.
Won't you stop and take
A little time out with me
Just take five
Stop your busy day
And take the time out
To see if I'm alive
Though I'm going out of my way
Just so I can pass by each day
Not a single word do we say
It's a pantomime and not a play
Still, I know our eyes often meet
I feel tingles down to my feet
When you smile, that's much too discreet
Sends me on my way
Wouldn't it be better
Not to be so polite
You could offer a light
Start a little conversation now
It's alright, just take five
Just take five
a masterpiece
this is SO GOOD
Desmond was a humble genius
This is wonderful. I just wish it were a little slower. Thank you for a terrific backtrack to learn on.
You can change the speed of the video in the bottom right had corner. Just click the icon that looks like a small nut and it should give you the option to change it half speed. Hope it works for you!
You can download riff station, load the song, change speed, pitch, everything you need to practice....
Superbe!
Super helpful
Thank you
I use this backing track, and can I post a performance video in UA-cam?
Fantastic
Ah, I wish there were 8 more bars of the verse bit to accommodate Desmond's whole solo.
I think the chords may be wrong for Desmond's solo section anyway, at least according the sheet music with his solo on that I've seen
Exelente
Great BT, but i think it would be better if it stayed on the main groove for longer, instead of going to the chorus all the time. That would be more like the original live version of this song so that Paul Desmond and Dave Brubeck etc etc can play a solo.
This is very nice; thanks. Is the chorus an Ebm7 like shown on the screen or Eb7 (which I’ve seen elsewhere). Thanks.
Ebm7 to my ear, I've checked it once more.
Minor it is; thx for getting back.
@@guitareimprovisation I would like to know what BPM it has?
@@sub-gq6jd 170 bpm
dope
Woww this 5/4 time signature is so hard and challenging! 😭😭 Does anyone has any tips on how to keep up with the rhythm while soloing?
Try thinking of it as 3 and 2 instead of 5
Try listening to take five a bunch, by various artists, even various styles. It’ll help get some musical ideas floating about in your brain as well as normalizing the time signature
Nicely produced! and btw, can i use this for my video? i'll just put the link on the description if permitted
Yes ! If you put a link that's permitted :-)
Bonjour , super travail ... belle harmonie ...
Can I sing to this and post it on YT (for listening, not sale) and if so, how do I do an attribution with your license? I always wrote my own music but would like to sing to this and share. Thx
Yes ! Quote my channel in the description and write a link aiming at this video :-)
Cool.
Thanks! Can you help me to fins backing track of "Take five" in Dm? One tone down of this original theme I meant, please?
Nice track
Does anybody have any reccomendation on how to improv after the first run down of the whole chorus lick? I'm getting back into music after 4 years out of high school, and I'm not particularly comfortable with playing jazz improv. Sheet music, I could do. but having to think on the spot, will throw me off beat and I'll have a hard time jumping back in, I am experimenting with 5/4 right now, as I am already used to the usual 4/4, 3/4 2/4, etc.
hi, you can try Eb- pentatonic all the time. you can play F#maj/Eb- scale. you can alternate scale Dbmaj (Eb- dorian) in the A section, and F#maj in the B section. you can use chord arpegios, arpegio substitution and other things. i suggest to listen george benson version. bad english...sorry
What version of the song is this? In the Dave Brubeck version it doesn't seem to have these cool cord changes, but that is the only version I can find anywhere. Does anyone know where to find a link to the full Paul Desmond version of the song?
why does E#m7/ Fbm7 sound better than the video's Fm7?🤔🤔
hahahaha

Yo, how can I improvise over B part, do I need to follow all those chord changes and lay on chord notes?

you can change the speed of the video on the gear. ⚙
technically it's not a B maj7 but a Cb maj7 , since we play in the Eb minor scale, Cb is the VI and B the V , not the same thing
You're true ! But if you have this level of knowledge, you may also why it's better to write BMaj7 right ?
Mmmmm , good one, I'd say it's because we are in a modulation ending on Gmaj7 ? then Bmaj7 is III ? By the way in the realbook they write it Cbmaj7 , so now I'm curious, tell me more :)
Guys what online course or books can I ready to have this knowledge
You can check Rick Beato videos on harmony, He is a good teacher
@@abayomiibrahim5404 mrk levine jazz theory book
Also for the B section, you should be going Bmaj7 into Abmin7 (not 6), and for the II-V-I back into Eb, you should be using Fmin7b5>Bb7(b13)
Excelente !!!
super
Yes ! But it's easier to read BMaj7, that's why I chose this option. Both work.
@@guitareimprovisation gracias por la aclaración
May i borrow this for a cover? I will credit you!
Yes of course ! If you don't make money with it that's ok, you have to quote the video (with a backlink) according to the Creative Commons Licence.

Me too hahahaha im sweating so much
Bailey lol for me the timing isnt even the issue it’s just how fast the chords change
@@hobbedgoblin10 Trust me, it's the way you're counting, the chord changes are actually ok, it's the way we count them that screws with the timing. Here's what got me through it: www.jazzguitar.be/blog/how-to-play-take-5-chords-on-guitar/
The trick is to play what the piano is playing - i.e. arpeggios and chords, not just chords. Makes it much easier to keep time.
Hi! can i use this as a soundtrack for a video please? i'll credit you, and the video will just be a short trailer of a theatre work realized by an amateur dramatic group.. we are not looking for any profit at all!!... please let me know, thank you!
Sure ! If you don't directly make money with the video, a credit with my channel name will be fine (it's creative commons licence). If not, please contact me.
So, I guess you can play e flat minor pentatonic scale over this ?
Eb blues (Minor pentatonic with the added b5) works well over the Ebm Bb-7 vamp. Over the B section, I would recommend using the full Eb minor (aeolian) scale because the pentatonic is missing important notes. For the last two bars of the B section (Fm7(b5) and Bb7) Eb harmonic minor is implied here.
Nice
thank you for sharing. I'm new to playing Jazz. May I know what key is this played?
just play the black keys on the piano lol
@Winston Lin yeah it is
Eb minor
does anyone know what scale to use??
Eb dorian
I use Eb minor
@Harrison Mair because it has the same notes as Eb Dorian
Do you have a C ver?
Lmao
Grace Nuri brought me here
It would be great if you could not have the chorus repeat every 16 bars. In the real version the solos are done without going to the chorus.
Yes: the vamp version is here: ua-cam.com/video/ng4x1bpoqO4/v-deo.html
Yea the song is incomplete n the vamp is the the eb phrase
Cool ....thanx

This might sound really stupid, but how would I play this on the piano
Learn the chords, learn the melody, practise improvising in 5/4, and you'll be well on the way.

commercials in the middle of the backing track oh no UA-cam not acceptable i said no....
Oh, are you sure it happened? On UA-cam, if the video is shorter than 8 minutes, an ad in the middle of the video is not possible. You probably reached the end of the backing track :-) Also, ads are a way for me to get paid for sharing this content with you.
little bragging: i knew how to play this song before i even knew that it was 5/4.

Ab-6? Minor 7 sounds better in this case. Never a Gypsy jazz tune.
