    First time for me... sight fishing... for wild lake trout.... in only 8 feet of water! I have had success fishing this shallow in this lake in the past. I have always wanted to try sight-fishing here, unsure if it would work or not. Spoiler alert: IT DID!
    This day was January 1st, 2024. So far we have had a mild winter, the ice wasn't too thick and barely any snow. Perfect conditions for cutting a sight fishing hole. The weather forecast was looking decent on New Years Day so I went for it! Although the temperature was decent there was a heavy south wind so I tucked into the north side of an island for shelter.
    The lakers were hunting the shallow waters. Anyone catching 4 lake trout in a day would consider it a solid action day, even if they were small. I may have caught 3 times as many if I had better luck with the hook sets. Too be fair the trout that got off were very scrappy and did not quit, they earned their way off the hook.
    I hope you enjoyed the video. There will be many more sight fishing videos coming up. Of course, I will take what I learned forward so the future videos will always improve. Cheers and tight lines everyone!

    We can hear the adrenaline rush of seeing the fish and having the opportunity of the great game … some great weather coming for the rest of this week 👍👍

      Oh sight fishing is such a rush. Ice is getting thicker so I'll be mostly normal ice fishing now. Only 13" of ice on Nym Saturday, and that was after that week of -30!

    Fantastic stuff, even with some missed hooksets. Like the underwater releases as well

      Thanks Sean! The great thing about filming non-stop while fishing is I catch everything, every the ones that get away are caught on camera! I did get some great under water shots in this one!

      For sure, I it probably an extra 30 mins of hard work to set up for ice fishing BUT it's so worth it to watch the fish come in for the rest of the day! Cheers bud.

    Love when they hit on the first drop! Keeps you motivated lol. I like the livewell footage of the fishes mug lol!

      Haha yeah the fish in the livewell turned out different. How it came into focus only inches from the camera. Can't wait to hear how you and Jay make out if you hit that lake this week. Hopefully you land more than I did lol.

      Thanks. My first 5 ice fishing trips this winter were sight fishing. It's way too much fun!

    So fun!! They are so aggressive. They just zoom in like torpedoes

      Funny how they act just like other trout. They just potentially get much bigger... not in this lake though lol

      @RaulGarciaFishingandOutdoors oh yeah. I want to master this style of fishing with pike. Would be super exciting to see a 10 or 20 pound pike flying in to grab the bait

      It's no secret haha, it is Crook Lake on highway 622 but you better hurry. It's a fish sanctuary. It is only open during January and July 😉

      I know right? I want to find a lake with normal sized lakers in 8 feet of water. That would be epic! I had something close to that happen last weekend. I was fishing in 43 feet of water. I marked a fish way up high, I reeled up just below the ice and while I was watching down the hole a laker smoked my spoon twice! Not a giant but solid 25 incher

      @@differentfins would be cool if you did a SIGHTFISHING day on Clearwater lake

      @differentfins  7 місяців тому

      I remember Aaron made a video years ago there doing that, he was in like 30 feet of water though. You could see the fish at that depth. If I knew a spot on Clearwater where the lakers were feeding in 10-15 feet deep I would totally do this. I think everyone would lol@@freshwaterfishingwithadrian

    Awesome stuff 🙌🏻. I was only able to do ice fishing once this year before we now have over 2’ of ice

      Thanks! This has been a very mild winter. I was fishing a larger lake last weekend and it only had 13" of ice, most winters the ice would be about 2 feet thick by now. It was -30 for a week then it it's right back to above freezing temperatures.

      @@differentfinswow hey? Unreal. Us in Alberta are singing a similar tune- we had temps go down to -52 with the polar vortex.. now we’re hitting +12 on Monday 😮

    Some lakes are weird with lake trout depths. One I fish you get them all year all day 8ft of water

    • @differentfins
      @differentfins  7 місяців тому

      I would love to try this on other lake trout lakes, lakes with larger lakers. I've heard of stories of people fishing in shallow and getting them. Often that fish would be the biggest of the day for that group.
