That’s why you’ll never work on my bike because you don’t know how to work on bikes you Rev them up when they’re cold and never let them warm-up ridiculous
That RM is ideling crazy high. Might be running lean also. Just a suggestion, riding down the road, or even on the trail, isn't the best thing for the clutch. Probably should talk the owner into a new clutch basket, at the very least, before giving it back. Otherwise you will be seeing that thing again awfully soon. Just my opinion ...
I thought it sounded a touch lean too.
Older RMs are infamous for blowing crank seals & letting in air "high lean idle"
Here we go again as soon as it starts scream the hell out of it !!!!
He thinks it sounded good it sounded like a two-stroke getting ready to hang a ring in the port like it probably did it's definitely seized up so it's a typical abused two-stroke that engine is set up properly would last for years but not around these guys
I'd recommend finding a new clutch basket, with a gap that big those clutch plates will be slamming harder than before and if will create some big ole grooves faster than before. Great videos!
Its a customer bike, the clutch basket expense was probably outside the agreed scope of work and an unexpected large cost.
Great video.are you wearing high heels in your video?
Sounds like ski boots lol
On all two strokes please please please please please please please please do not use the throttle on a cold start. It's an enrichment valve that only functions at closed throttle. Whew! I feel better now. LOL
Hahaha, I'm glad someone finally said it ! I feel bad about trying to comment and help him out sometimes, but shit, if nobody says anything he will never know.
He's been told a hundred times before, but still continues trying to start cold engine's with an open throttle 🤣
Correct, you should never need to touch the throttle on a cold start up!
@@lorollinls Try telling Joe that !🙄
He even did it with the Raptor 700. And it's fuel injected.
Nice video, love the older Suzukis. You should move the kickstart back on the splines so it isn’t hitting the pipe.
I remember watching the video when you were tearing the engine down and putting and then putting that flywheel back on and not crank and nut looks trip to s*** remember you cranking it on with an airgun and it looks stripped as hell I could tell that when you were putting it together
You are correct he stripped it out with the air tool that's why I never use air tools on my motors and always use proper torque.
Needs a new clutch basket, that one is foobar.
Fubar
@@jonnyonwheelsGuess he doesn't know how acronyms work.
I love RMs. I have a 98 250 and it rips. Nice job man. God bless.
I still have my 98 rm 250 as well. Got it brand new. I haven’t run it in over 5 years, but I fired her up tonight after watching this video. Still runs like a top
If you listen close you can hear the rattle start right before lock up almost instant after Joe said it sounds really good
Typical 😆
Sounds like a typical two-stroke getting ready to seize up
Joe that bike is running extremely lean. Idk how you can't tell. You run it down the street, pull in the clutch, and the idle is sky high. Watch your 500cc banshee suzuki build video before you blew it up. It did the exact same thing.
Seriously it's badd lmaoo
@@oldvintagebikes5667 Joe makes great content. He has come a long way but I scratch my head at the fact that he just rebuilt the motor top to bottom, which some can't do, but somehow can't tell when a bike or quad is running lean as shit.
Thats because he better at fixing then riding, he had that mf sounding like a two stroke passing through my hood, they be flying past stop signs fast asl til they shit lock up lol
@@AUSTIN_457 Thank you !!! I enjoy watching this channel, but alot of shit he does makes me cringe ! I try and comment without making him feel bad, but sometimes his content makes me absolutely scream at the TV !
Maybe we should all pitch in and get him a a/f meter
That needs a clutch basket and a chain ! 32 to 1 is the safest for 2 stroke
Rev to the moon warmup….
Def fails the hand compression test.
Don't be surprised if ears of that basket break off now
if only your riding was as good as your mechanical side get out of 1st gear asap and change gears sooner 🙂 loved the video though 👌🏻
i have never even ridden a motorcycle in my entire life but i still love this channel.
It's never to late to start learning!
Give it a try. You might like it 😌👍
You'd love it I did and I've never looked back
Dude trust me start learning now. From the first time I’ve rode a bike it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do. It’s totally worth it
@@KenpachiZarakiX yea it is
I always use atleast blue lock tight on my flywheels. On 2 strokes and bigger 4 strokes like the predators and Raptors I will use red lock tight. Especially on the machines that has issues shearing woodruff keys or breaking flywheels. Always works for me
Christ almighty that thing is idling high! I'm cringing as you pull in the clutch on the road and its revving like that. That's a 2 stroke 101 no no. Come on!
I’ve seen my ole man and others put silicone on head bolts going into small block chevys to keep coolant from leaking around em
Note to owner, replace clutch basket! And leak test that engine before you ride.
That clutch basket is junk, man. I'd have ordered/sourced a new one, that will cause major grief in the long run with a huge gap where the clutch plates live.
Great video, glad you got shifting sorted out! Thanks Joe!
Yep, get a Hinson or other...
Yeah that would mean you would do it the correct way
Boss third guy is pretty good but he cuts a lot of corners when it comes go quality parts.
@@cheto2952 yep he cuts way to many every where. Not the proper way to do stuff may run for videos but I wouldn’t buy any of these projects.
Well, the client wanted to go ahead - for the moment - with the clutch modification. i think a pretty good choice as the young man indicated it would probably work for the moment. ... Remember the ridiculous shape the bike was in when it came to him - the engine was a pile of parts.
LOOKS LIKE YOU OWE SOMEBODY A MOTOR DUMMY!!!!
That clutch basket is done
Sounds like it's idling super high and maybe slightly lean
That is exactly what I was thinking I’m always paranoid of lean conditions (vacuum leaks) and that definitely sounds lean on video
From hearing it run whenever you kick it sounds like to me the old seals are stil on it sounds like it has a leak somewhere in the cases
love the rms, hopefully picking one up today! Also would love to see some more 2 strokes on your channel such as dirt bikes and quads, like it was when you first started.
Did you pick one up? Lol
did not didn’t have time haha
Suzuki's are notorious for sucky clutches and worn out baskets. Sounds like you got it worked out it sounds like a little ripper.
did you just start that clutch cover bolt with the impact gun???
Yup lol
My CR125 cases are toast because of people like this. Half the threads are either broken or stripped off.
@@julianr1742 horrible
He starts every bolt with the impact gun. I'm waiting for one to cross thread 😅
He stripped the flywheel nut as well
that exact bike was the 1st dirtbike i ever owned back in the early 2000's. Suzuki used to be great, sucks they have givin up on powersports innovation.
Atleast they’re bikes are reasonably priced though because of it. Best warranty too. Own an 07 rmz450 myself and it keeps up with newer Hondas and Yamahas
@@DogeLib yea they are great bikes still for 90% of people. Its the rider over the bike for majority of situations anyway. The trail bikes are priced great but they better be since they have been the same for decades. Its nice to have a good quality inexpensive option though.
Nice half assing the clutch basket. gezzzzzz.......
u working on the clutch basket reminded me of my grandfather. back in the mid 70s he took a clutch off of a dirt-bike and modified it to work on a mini-bike with a Briggs. i believe this is why i watch ur channel. the channel and u remind me of being a kid smelling 2 stroke engines. my GF had a small engine repair shop. back then, people got things fixed, now everything is through away. keep up the good work, and thank u for ur time.
yeah, i praised the hell out of the kid. also, love the smell of a little exhaust. this kid is so talented and dedicated and he is an inspiration to a lot of young people. it's a hard slog, but he shows them it can be done. A few will go on to become real mechanics, not just parts replacers. to have that kid just go back and solve these potential heart-breaking engine shut-downs and the flywheel nut etc., wow. he is really a hero - a good example for other young people who need role models like this.
"Has tons of power" how? You can clearly hear the clutch slipping from 2nd to 6th. "No rattling" bro, this bike is unrideable
Also 125's are the best! The older non-power valve ones are where it's at tho, never had any use for power valves, tames them far as iam concerned. Pretty sure the expert 80's will take a 125! Lol
That Suzuki sounds so crappy, sounds like has lots of Piston slap, it’s a Suzuki tho I mean
Float level to low, pilot to small, or air leak. Bike is way to lean.
If you have the ok , replace basket as others have said , great diag on trans gear installation, I like the grease on gaskets, I have been doing this for almost 20 years , makes gaskets reusable for a couple times at least , I really don't watch any other repair videos on the tube other than yours Joe , you remind me well of me lol , keep up the good work , we you freeze crank try simply putting a light bulb on crank bearing for a couple hrs , it really works !! 👍
Does anyone know if i am able to use suzuki ltr plastic kits on a ltz
Wow that side of the engine is cursed lol!! Great job brother!!
I'd just replace that basket if it's that bad
Awesome video love hearing a rm 125
My RM125’s flywheel did exactly what yours did and i thought the crank went cause the sound it was making. Idk why it would do that though?
That basket will fail and those ears are going to wreak havoc on the clutch side. But good job getting it going.
I'd use a flat file works better and flatter .
The coolant is seeping up because your not using captured nuts or if not using captured nuts then use thread sealant on the the upper threads. You should also consider replacing your crush washers under the nuts they will keep coolant from leaking.
Feel like an idiot yet? It was just loose head studs , I think this guy might know a little more then you about this stuff there brother 😂😂😂👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@@INORBETplease enlighten me on why crush washers and captured nuts are used on two stroke cylinder heads?
Thanks for the 34 min vid, wifey was starting to annoy me 😬😬🤦🏾♂️
be carful wiv that kickstart like that mine wound up and blown out the casing
That clutch basket is toast. I'm surprised you would waste your time in grinding that hunk of shit down. Just order a new one. To much material is already gone you grinding on it isn't going to make it better
That basket needs replacing there's too much slop
i thought the clutch was going bang until the flywheel bolt came off. i think it needs a new top end also to be honest. your certainly finding your way round these bikes now diagnosing problems etc. l
great job bro, that clutch basket is going to explode tho you should of just replaced it.
They’re right about the basket.. Some people have gotten away with it though. Temporarily if the plates are even good Id send it
Back out the idle screw or re-route that throttle cable sounds like it's about to blow up
Hey 2vintage i have a 2000 rm 125. I just recently found this sitting around me relatives. The recent owner blew the piston like half of the piston is gone. I put a installed a new piston honed it. But now my rod arm cracked. The kickstart jammed somewhere in side the case, so i had to take apart the cylinder to inspect. Piston is okay. The piston rod arm bigger end that connects to shaft broke. I cant find a Crankshaft very steep on the price. What year is a good new Crankshaft? Will 1998 or 99 work?
Sounds a little lean when you start it Joe
That rm is super lean!!
125s are so fun now days with the 450s out so many people think there to small and slow but if u know how to ride them right they are more fun then a 450 bike will ever be
The old 1986 cr125 I had would do that and it was always the plug but it would run finomal first kick everytime then you'd be riding it and fowl the plug
Seems everything you touch breaks hahaha 🤣😅🤣😅 cowboy 🤠 bike mechanic 🤣🤣 I wouldn't let you you touch anything you seem to be learning on people's bikes when they have faith in you 😂😂 and no Motocross bike should run freely on its own that's how they get hot and blow up
Awesome vintage like the Suzuki RM 201125 like when you pick up any dirt bikes of any age cool👍😉💯
Got a nice little chunk taken out of the case when that flywheel came off... Bummer! How did you manage to fix that? Did you just fill in the gap with some JB weld and sand it down? Or did you just leave it?
Loving this bike,absolutely ace,looks supa clean!Massive props to u!gg.👍💪👍👌
had to sign in to comment even tho it means google is tracking the hell out of me. " you must use your phone to sign in. " anyway ..., had to sign in to say what an incredible kid this is. he is the best! just an awful great kid. Now, some of you know NASA is fake-as-hell, but this is the kid who would get us to the moon and back - if we really could go. never forget kid, you are the best.
You fell in love with her and so did I nice job on her she deserved it
do not use any throttle on cold start
RM 125 was always a nice platform for a simple dirt bike. I'd think it's worth replacing the clutch basket. Good job on fixing the shifting!
So I have a 1998 rm125 and my ? Is does the power valve gear have a o ring on the end of it? I’ve just started to completely go through the bike from top to bottom and just trying to get it right the first time around
How dat clutch feeling, like a bag of 💩 probably, jeezz just get a new one!!
Pull that kick-start lever off and turn it back one spline. It shouldn't be hitting the clutch cover when it is all the way forward.
Thing started revving like the last rm but good job
Can't say I ever once had a issue with a grooved clutch basket. Also unless you are measuring for tolerance and keeping them all the same, some fingers are gonna wear in and groove faster than others I would assume.
Sometimes break as some plate tabs are the only ones doing work
You havent ridden enough then
Before he took off he's got some kind of throttle finish he couldn't keep his hand off of the throttle even though he wasn't revving it up it was a back and forth like some kind of nervous twitch
Rm's are nice bikes
Thaat clutch is riding unless you can't ride a bike properly
In my opinion it sounds like it's sucking air into the engine where it shouldn't. Like a bad crank seal.. or worn piston and rings.
He seized it up. Stop the camera rebuilt cylinder.😂
Sweet great video nice job thumbs up.
RATTLE RATTLE RATTLE
20:20 what was wrong with that kick start cuz i have similar problem with mine
First thing those studs or the nuts are not correct on that head cuz there's not enough threads come out of the nuts , plus the gasket is not installed properly or its blown .
Have you watched Mustie 1 Channel he has lots of good info check it out
You need to learn how to do plug chops very important for a 2 stroke
Everytime this dude kicks the bike he snaps his wrist what a clown
Aye man you should have a look at maybe doing some 2vintage gloves 🧤
That basket is way 2 far gone
your the dustiest mechanic i ever seen, i would not trust you near my bikes
The head studs don't look long enough ...
that thing sounds like a lawn mower
Now thats fast! the guy better get a good clutch basket before it phks everything up its running so good too.
Those studs are in wrong , you want the more or longer threads to face up
how much for the bike and to send it to the uk
Stick to fixing peddle bikes and skateboards kid
Was leaking oil or something in the driveway
Good video
man that thing needs a new set of crank bearings and a new basket
The way you ride is probably why the plug fouled lol
Good shit getting it running
18:30 that's WAY too much play.
Get your wallet out !
as far as the cost of the repair ... , i think my instinct was correct. $600 and a garantee to help with little adjustments if it needs it as the owner tries it out. looked up the used price 4,500 for bike.
uuh, $ 600 labor plus parts.
