    You get get special mirrors for autocues on tablets. You mount them in front of the camera lens with the tablet facing up. It then gets reversed on a 45º two way mirror so you can see it. The camera looks straight through the mirror too. The pro studios have been using these for years.

    • @hullhistorynerd
      @hullhistorynerd  Рік тому +1

      All of which is great until you realise that I'm not a team, I'm just one person and I'm not going to drag all that equipment on a location shoot on my own! I don't even set up or bring my separate monitor to location shoots these days, I just use hyperfocal ranges to keep me in focus. Got to travel light when you're a one-person operation!
      Anyway, I've adapted to just talking off the cuff around the scripts' points anyway, it works much better and, for better or worse, it's more me talking to the camera than me reading a script!

    Why do we do it to ourselves? Nostalgia can be quite depressing. I found myself in 2018 in the Lifestyle Museum and was gripped by a sudden sense of loss. I remarked as much to Alan our long time friend, who doesn't seem as afflicted as I. It was quite debilitating, this yearning for some nebulous intangible facet of the past. And yet, for myself, I keep doing it. "Hull, the Good Old Days", my favourite go-to. HHN, another must watch. We must be gluttons for punishment. Never quite figured it out, why we put ourselves through the sometimes emotional pain of loss when we intentionally visit the past. It's an itch that can never be scratched, like a gambling or drug addiction...
    Is it a "previous life reincarnation" thing if such is possible? Dunno, but I've cogitatated the idea for many of my 75 years....

    Love the idea for a different slant on famous hullensians Jamie. To be honest a long time ago I thought about researching into some of the people like Sydney Smith, Andrew Marvell and of course Amy Johnsonm people so famous that schools were named after them. Of course you have Wilberforce, but you could extend to other families like the famous Hull Quaker families like the Priestmans who made cranes etc., Alec Horsley who founded Northern Diaries which became Northern Foods and James Reckitt

    I would be really interested in learning about the Hull accent and people. I'm from Hull but live in Sheffield now I hear a distinct difference in both accents. I would love to know how our accent has come about.
    Also, how about doing something on Hull Fair. I think the whole of Hull and surroundings have such a soft spot for Hull Fair. Although I don't live in Hull I made sure my son didn't miss out on this local and historical spectacle.
    It would be brilliant to know about the really early origins of Hull, the Romans, the Vikings etc.

    Your videos are always interesting, but especially interested in your forthcoming videos on Edward Is castles in Wales. Have written very recently on this topic and their builders who were in main part from Savoy (now Switzerland/ France/ Italy) but there’s also a local link for you … that is the diggers of the ditches and in particular the canalisation of the River Clwyd at Rhuddlan. Edward was especially skilled at getting the right men for the job, and men came from the Fens but also Lincs and New Holland. If you’re interested in more recommend my book Welsh Castle Builders and or messaging. Enjoy your trip and look forward to more videos.

      I've been a huge admirer of Master James of St John's castle designs in Wales for decades, ever since I first visited them in my early 20s. I'm very much looking forward to making that video! I'll have a look for the book, it sounds right up my alley!

      @@NickB_Yorkshire Oh awesome! I wish I'd had my drone for the railways of Hull series. But I do have future plans in that area that don't involve remaking old videos...
