Hi, I’m from France. I Love, love, love this Hoya and your channel !!! I have a large one since 3 years (and it flowers every year in autumn). It’s not very difficult to find this plant in France and not too expensive (around 15 € for a 14 cm pot). Origin: mountains of Southeast Asia. It is a cool humid temperate undergrowth epiphyte. I cultivate it in a “classic” substrate for Hoya, with potting soil, sand, perlite and a little coconut fiber, clay balls at the bottom ... - exposure: very light part shade (in my kitchen, in a north facing window) - watering: regular but spaced, the base of the root ball must remain moist Hoya linearis is sensitive to drought and excess water. - temperature: between 10 ° Celsius and 20 ° C in winter, tolerates up to 25 ° C... heat sensitive !!!! - flowering induction thanks to cool nights and short days .; a day-night difference of a few degrees is needed - Cuttings: in an earthy mixture, not in water .; ideal: sand, vermiculite And as you said : - enemies : mealybugs!!! Sorry for my English... Thank you very much for the content that you belong to us with your channel! Love, love your channel !!
I’m surprised you can’t root the linearis in water, it’s my preferred way to propagate, and I’ve always had 100% success. Another way to bulk up the plant, is to wrap it round the soil on top of the pot and peg it down. It then roots easily and you have a good full plant. It also likes bright indirect light to hit the top of the plant. Another great video, thanks Seán from Ireland. 💚💚
it will not root "anywhere from the stem" but only where there is a node or aerial roots, nature has his own rules ..... so it is better to cu half a centimeter below a node to avoir rotten stem in the ground
I bought one about 6 weeks ago. It came potted in pure coco coir. It was basically doing alright. I moved all my other Hoyas to lechuza pon and have had a lot of luck with it. And this one was so long its weight was pulling the roots up out of the coir. I was terrified to repot it since I heard they’re so tricky but eventually tried putting it in pon too 2 weeks ago. It might be too early to say but it looks very happy so far. Actually it looks like a different plant now. The leaves got very plump and juicy and “succulenty”, so it looks more like a Hoya now. The pon gives it a lot of aeration but also keeps a lot of humidity around the roots without leaving them damp. It gets a lot of bright indirect light indoors and has also gotten darker green. I think it looks quite happy. It’s just funny that I woke up to a new robust looking plant instead of the thin dainty plant I purchased. I water it when I do my other regular plants so not as rarely as my other Hoyas or peperomias for instance, more like a philodendron or a pothos.
I acquired 2 full Linearis plants by pure luck. They’ve been at the top of my list for quite some time. I want them to thrive and this is very helpful since it’s not like a “regular” Hoya. Love your content! Thanks for all your hard work!
Perfect timing!! I received a small cutting a few weeks ago and I am trying to keep it healthy... (fingers crossed) so far so good... it's still alive!!! I really like how you show the updates in the same video ... that way there's no chance of missing the update.
Your videos are getting so good, that I started to check out all of them, past ones included. Particularly when they are coming from Asia where I am located. Makes more sense. I like what you showcase your success and struggles with planting, as planting is not all bed of roses. I also like your propagation videos. Keep these videos coming!
I’ve had huge success with water propagation! I also had to fight mealy bugs on my quite long Hoya. I used the spot treatment on it, rubber alcohol, and then dipping the whole plant in neem, and I’ve finally got rid of the mealy bugs! The plant looked really sad for about a month but in hindsight I think it was because of underwatering
Hello! Can you tell me how your Linearis hoya is doing a year later? I just purchased two 6 or 8” Pots (really nice size plants.) I am afraid bc I have read that it is a difficult one to grow?? A lady in a blog said she killed two and gave up on it. It looks like I should repot mine. I just soaked the pot and a bug came out of it. I think I will do one with orchid mix and one with New Zealand Tree Fern. Thanks for the update.
I forgot to say that you are doing fantastic propagating the hoya linearis 😄👏🌟🌟🌟💯I think keeping it a little moist and in the cool dappled sun makes linearis grow perfectly😌🙏Have a great day Sean
Love my Linearis..propping some now in sphagnum moss as well, I always do One node cuttings and never lose any, I place container in a prop box with light and heat mat..works very well, Vancouver Island BC Canada👍❤🌿
I found an 8” pot of this at a garden center several months ago & hesitated to buy it because I considered it a bit pricey. But I got it and I love 💕 it and I’ve never seen one in a store before or since!
Oh my, it’s like you are talking about a totally different plant. BUT I’m in the Czech Republic and all my Linearis are super easy. I have them in aroid mix and also in Leca. They water-root super easy or I just stick them in soil or Leca. They grow like crazy and I have them in North and South facing windows. Amazing how different climates affect plants. No pests either on mine, even when others do. The only thing that’s the same is that they don’t like to dry out.
interesting and helpful care tips Sean🤗💖I love your plant videos. I watch them as I water and take care of my Indoor plants. Yes, I also use moss for my small-leaved hoyas. They prefer it over any other mix😉Thank you😌🙏
common in europe but not so easy to cultivate I lost mine too much water I can't wait to follow the evolution of the cuttings bravo for the quality of the videos
I'm in Louisville too! Girl I went up to New Albany, across the river, to Grantline road nursery, they have linearis and several other types of Hoya at decent prices, full 6inch pots AND rooted cuttings, all looking healthy af. Sorry, thought someone should know lol
This may be too late for you to read, I was watching one of your older videos where you bought an african violet and you thought it would like to dry out between waterings, I hope you have learned better by now that they need constant moisture and very bright indirect light? I see that you also love episcias, have you considered joining the Gesneriad Society? I think you would love their articles on rare plants and you can get seeds very cheaply of rare plants. I hope you see this comment and grow many beautiful gesneriads.
I just got my very first linearis cutting 😳 I'm terrified I'm going to kill it. I put it in well draining soil (and some worm castings) in a tiny pot and put a little cling wrap over the top to give it some humidity. I just got it yesterday so... 🤞🤞🤞 I love your videos! They are educational and amusing 😘
I find that humidity doesnt affect this plant much, it does better in fact in my AC room with 50-60% humidity than outside. Just balance the watering so its not over or underwatered. It helps that you have it in well draining soil 😀
I HATE that I learned about this plant a bit late😕 the prices right now are just a bit out of my price range for what you get...but damn do I want one SO BAD! They're beautiful when they are hanging in a full pot!
OMG I have also a plastic linearis "living" in my bathroom 🤣(unfortunetly no windows there), but I have also a "real one" in my bedroom😀just in front of my bed and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my lady(ohh btw she's grow in leca)
i like hoya ... more so than peperomia actually (gasp!) however I m afraid of the care and maintenance so I been looking at them ... but not hoya ... yet
For the hoya linearis I imagine you can take cuttings when you feel you have enough growth from the parent plant. They can take cooler temp and lower humidity but be sure to supplement light if its too low in the winter
I am from thailand but I don't know hoya! Actually we made new name for any plants. If not because of UA-cam I wouldn't know what it actually is lol I just get into plans for a few months.
Hey! Ive had my hoya for about 2 years now, its lovely and hanging about 2 meters down! It just bloomed lasy month and the smell was amazing!!! What I noticed today, it's gotten black tips. About 1mm of every leaf has gotten black! Google know nothing about it. What is happening!? Help please
Could be over or underwatering. Or perhaps it lost many roots from rot or pest or drought and is now unable to take up water to support that many leaves. Do check the roots and the soil 😀
I have a nice long one, I let it dry out but not for a long time, when it gets dry then I water. Mine also got mealy bugs, I used a systemic pesticide. I keep it in a east window in USA . Smells like poop💩haha! 😂🤣
They like cooler climates and regular room humidity 40-60%, and more light than we think without there being too much direct. Mine keeps dying in the nursery but spring back to live in my air conditioned bedroom
I love how you always do updates on how the plants are doing later. Nobody does that and I really appreciate it!
😀😀

Whoaaaa very helpful tips!! Its 30 degrees celcius outside here haha maybe thats why they hate it so much.
Sounds like a Real hard plant to care for 🙈

Is there any Thing special to Look for with water prop? Do you use a regular Glass or a darker one? Heat mat or something?

I have to check local nurseries, I haven't seen them around. Very different from other Hoyas🥰
so happy I saw this!! I just got a linearis a few weeks back and I was struggling to find good care tips!
They are a bit tricky to care for... balance your watering and also treat for pests regardless. They are magnets
💚 🌿I have 3 of them, I love the pale coloured blooms amongst the needle like foliage 🌿💚
got my cutting on vaccation to London... Just kept it in abottle of water and to my surprise the roots are growing really well with new growth too
😀😀 so nice to be able to get plants on vacation. My favorite thing
Thanks for the informative video. i have a 6” that I have purchased within the last 2 months so still learning about it.

They are so stressed out here in hot and humid climates I think
interesting and helpful care tips Sean🤗💖I love your plant videos. I watch them as I water and take care of my Indoor plants. Yes, I also use moss for my small-leaved hoyas. They prefer it over any other mix😉Thank you😌🙏
Interesting... Im tempted to just keep them in moss too. Thanks for sharing!
I love these. Mine is doing great so far. Hope it continues 😁
common in europe
but not so easy to cultivate
I lost mine too much water
I can't wait to follow the evolution of the cuttings
bravo for the quality of the videos
Thank you for this, I just got two cuttings and needed some care tips. Subscribed as well. Thank you for the help! 😊
Thank you and welcome to the channel! 🙌🏻
Aww steve! 🐠 💕 Now I think I’ll finally risk propping my linearis☺️ Thanks Sean!
Thanks!! I just bought a linearis so this video couldn't have come at a better time :)
That's a very Pretty and unique Hoya...
Thank you for sharing your great work...Sean.
Stay safe...
Hello from Louisville KENTUCKY US, I really enjoy your videos. You’re very smart and adorable too!
I'm in Louisville too! Girl I went up to New Albany, across the river, to Grantline road nursery, they have linearis and several other types of Hoya at decent prices, full 6inch pots AND rooted cuttings, all looking healthy af. Sorry, thought someone should know lol
Whoa!!! Never thought they prefer cooler temp!
No wonder mine look sad, they were at balcony under shade all day next to dischidia
Thank you!
I want to grow this plant so much! It was everywhere in the local stores last year. This year - none
Lol...by the way, I really like reading your inserted comments. Funny.
Love❤them! I do hate mealies!
But mealies love them 😛
I've got mine since 1 year and been blooming 3 times Smells for me a bit of stinky socks and lemon 😁
😅😅😅 interesting... It must be really happy to have bloomed three times though
Which times of year did it bloom?

Interestinggg thanks for the tip on the african violet mine is thriving and flowering. Cant wait to collect more of those!
Amazing video as always. ❤ just saw the episcia on the background and i can't wait for your video regarding care and propagation of episcias. ❤
Ooooh yes I cant wait to do one soon too
I'm looking forward to that.. 😍 i'm such a big fan of yours!😍

Your captions are pure gold 👌
Not yet have it but I ❤️ the look of this hoya. Thanks for the info.
I HATE that I learned about this plant a bit late😕 the prices right now are just a bit out of my price range for what you get...but damn do I want one SO BAD! They're beautiful when they are hanging in a full pot!
Prices will come down again! Be sure to make time and room for plants after covid.
I love your videos❤
Thank you 😀😀
I love your enthusiasm.. 🥰
Thank you 🥰
I am going to try and find one its so pretty thanks for info. Its hard to find Hoya locally.
the episcia looks so lush!
OMG I have also a plastic linearis "living" in my bathroom 🤣(unfortunetly no windows there), but I have also a "real one" in my bedroom😀just in front of my bed and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my lady(ohh btw she's grow in leca)
Whoaaaa you are obsessed 😀 I like that
Thank you!
😀
I love your videos! My hoya Lin. Cutting Will arrive any day now! May I ask, what editing program do you use for your videos?
I use davinci resolve16 😀 its free!
She's on my list 😍
i like hoya ... more so than peperomia actually (gasp!) however I m afraid of the care and maintenance so I been looking at them ... but not hoya ... yet
Very good
Thank you dude!
Thank you, Sean!
OMG I really want that Hoya.
When is the best time to take cuttings? Thank you
For the hoya linearis I imagine you can take cuttings when you feel you have enough growth from the parent plant. They can take cooler temp and lower humidity but be sure to supplement light if its too low in the winter
❤️❤️❤️
I am from thailand but I don't know hoya! Actually we made new name for any plants. If not because of UA-cam I wouldn't know what it actually is lol I just get into plans for a few months.
Thailand is really well known for dischidias, which is a relative to hoyas. Do check them out when you get the chance they are so cool

💚💚💚
do some colocasia plant care
Ooo Im still figuring them out. Give me some time 😀
and hello and please and thank you maybe?
waouh Sean...such a good heart and such patience💚💚💚you are absolutely adorable.
I would love to see the plants you have in your room how is the wandering jew in their
Mostly propagations happening in my room now 😅 will do a tour some day.
First!!!
I have a nice long one, I let it dry out but not for a long time, when it gets dry then I water. Mine also got mealy bugs, I used a systemic pesticide. I keep it in a east window in USA . Smells like poop💩haha! 😂🤣
Which systemic do you use? I have a really long one, too, that has a mealy problem.
Water with neem drench to get the mealies
Yepp I love that
💚🇬🇷
Do you have any caudex plants?
I have a stephania thats dormant now and a euphorbia neorubella, 😀 they are not my favorite types of plants though
Poop is good haaaa sometimes lol 😂🧤👒🦘🦘🇦🇺🙌🪴
🌻
The Hoya linearis is so expensive in the USA now it’s ridiculous.
Same here... cant even find them out and about anymore
Just found it in Florida, a 6” pot for $20! I bought two as a back up. Lol.
They like cooler climates and regular room humidity 40-60%, and more light than we think without there being too much direct. Mine keeps dying in the nursery but spring back to live in my air conditioned bedroom
I tried. As much as I like this hoya, it won't like me back lol. Some "house" plants just belong in nature..
I have a baby linearis and it already got 2 mealybugs in the leaves during the first month😒
Haha its a magnet for mealy bugs. Give it good pest control because mealy bugs can quickly kill the linearis
I am expecting the price of Hoya linnearis in Jakarta will be cheaper in the near future. I want this plant for so long
I hope so too. They dont grow as well in our climate... considered very slow growing here
My dream hoya but can’t find it here in Malaysia 🥲
Mεράκι ? 😊
Yes 😀 I love what it stands for
Sadly YT is blocked in China
🥲
Steve! 😭
i had so much mealybug infestation with these and eventually died!
