Yeezus! And I thought I was spending a lot of man hours on my Series 2A! This guy blows me out of the water. Daylight, moonlight, rain . . . this guy is working through it all! We take it for granted in the U.S. & U.K. being able to order a new frame, bulkhead, etc. or most parts for our Series. Not everyone in the world has that luxury. Respect!
Yes, a lot of hours went into that project and a lot more will. We could actually order all new parts from Germany without customs or from UK with custom expenses but we are buying only parts that we can't repair or refurbish keeping it within the marked budget for this project. Thank you!!! And thanks also from my dad he is the main star on this project 69 years old and really beating down the hours like it's full time job plus overtime 😆
Having owned many Series Land Rover's here in the UK and repaired all of them, I have taken great interest in you're videos. Making a new chassis, impressive stuff! All the best for 2024!
Fantastic series of videos - totally impressed by your skills - I can't understand why these videos haven't more views they are among the best land rover rebuild videos on UA-cam
Amazing job. Question: how did you make the jig for the cutouts? Tried but can’t find anything online, did you have to measure? I’m working on a Series 3 project.
Thank you! All templates were directly traced from original chassis and made from hard cardboard. So yes, unfortunately tracing and measuring only , nothing online 😔
Wow.........that chassis restoration was amazing. :) Great job. How much of the original is left? Only the top face? Luckily i didn't have to dive that deep when i restored my Series III. The chassis didn't need any welding, only the bulkhead did. But now i need to fix the rear cross member. It has a couple of holes after some years of use.
I looked at the stripped chassis and thought I would buy a replacement. You just about built the whole thing. Remarkable work, glad you finally put some gloves on! Your fingers must be made of asbestos.
hello I want to let you know that the mini is amazing and my top of the list of my mini list is your car amazing car good job on it my rating of the mini is 1000/1000 and good luck for next upcoming projects
Mirodur Epomir 2k epoxy primer was used. There are some good rust converters like from Wurth that will do the job but we've not use them on the LR Series project. All parts are sand blasted or brushed to the clean metal or just replaced with the new metal on this project.
Thanks!! It is cardboard but not the corrugated (packaging) one it's a paper store cardboard, like just thick paper 2-3mm it's not expensive and it's working perfectly
Great job, well done. Wouldn't expect, fabricating a complete chassis on a DIY basis. What kind of sheet metall did you use? S355? How thick? What brand/ kind of primer for the chassis do you apply?
Thank you! Yes it's s355 2,5mm and partially s235 4mm where the original was double layered, it's the same thickness as the factory produced. Primer is 2k epoxy mobihel for industry application like bridges, escavators, working machines, pretty satisfied with it...
@@adeanggungunawan6166 In 2024 I am going to complete my welding on the Discovery 300 TDi 3dr Trophy. Only a few patches left, about 3 or 4 pieces (2"*2", one for rear rail). Concerning my 109 Series 2 LHD truck-cap, the chassis rails are in a very, very, rotten state. So, especially around the spring-leaf hanger brackets. I tend to buy a galvanized chassis from Richards for example, but after saying good bye to EU , prices and toll raised. Finding a good new one is the same as finding a complete Series 2 in good shape.
Hello Sir. Very nice job. I will start on my own project for the same rebuilding next week. I’m just wondering what do you think if we can use 2.9 thickness for the materials? Also for welding are you did a butt joints or corner to corner? I think if we would use corner to corner we will have more meat after the grinding. Thx for your reply
Definitely it would not make sense if someone else would make it for us for money because that way it would probably cost more than the new thing from factory... but yes this way, not counting the work hours only bought material it's fine 🙂
With strategically placed holes, Land Rover chassis rott from the inside. Seems like they are designed this way. Fill it full of oil, and block the "fill " holes after
Yes, we had similar idea. Only 4 holes are made, two smaller 30mm ones placed center bottom and two 50mm ones placed back bottom, chassis is painted from inside with the same 2k paint as from outside, we planned to spray it still with liquid wax or liquid tar from inside with long hose, but oil is also a option....and we have rubber plugs for the holes so it's sealed

Wow great job. Can you make me a new chassis please
Hello, what kind of paint did you use? My frame has a layer of surface rust, after cleaning what do you recommend? Anti-rust, paint... Thank you

Hi! We have used s355 metal sheets 2x1m in size, I think 6 of them total, but one was extra and it was used later for the new fuel tank

A power wash through the chassis first would have been useful. Lots of hard work there! 👍🏻🙏🦘
Yes I agree, but i only have very small power washer which is not up to the task 😊
