The first rain after a long hot summer. There is a specific smell. But only for thoes who are aware and out side only lasts for about 5-10 min once everything is soaked its gone. Yes there is a magical smell and a desert would be the same but probably more so
I thoroughly enjoyed that. The only problem was it didn't go on for long enough. Everything looked so bright and refreshed after a drink. Rain is a blessing
The plants were probably drowning in the water because they are not used to holding a lot of water, so their roots are suffocating (roots need air). So no, the plants would not be happy to drink even if they did have emotions. :(
@@TheMattc999 Yup, kind of a party pooper comment, but some of those plants were damaged by this rain. Someone has to point out the obvious fact, which I'm pretty sure, some actually didn't know.
Ravioli Ravioli this rain in the California desert is rare. So whatever vegetation gets it, helps them last until the next rainstorm. They hardly ever “drown”
Oh man, what a relaxing, satisfying and beautiful idea! I enjoyed the sight of seeing a desert landscape getting that rare drink that I am sure it cherishes when it does get it. Knowing those plants are storing the water so they will have it slowly as needed is so amazing. Also, the awesome water sounds made all the thoughts that flooded (pun intended😋) my mind, made it all the better. So, thanks for no music or commentary. I usually don’t mind commentary, but when nature is at work, I prefer to hear its commentary😉
@@mottmann2898 In 2105, Tampa Bay area of Florida has a monsoon month of August. I had to dig out all my newly planted beach sunflowers because they started to drown. The ground got so saturated I had a pond in my front yard. The very first year I ever did drought tolerant gardening, we had a lot of rain, too. Lost a bunch of plants because I was a novice then.
Vladimir_Bone Spur_tRump Deserts get so much hate yet they are such beautiful places. The Sonoran Desert is such a beauty with its abundance of Saguaro Cacti, Cholla, and shrub life and in the spring the desert comes to life with flowers of vibrant colors and red and orange sunsets. Another beautiful desert location is Sedona which I’m sure you know tons about. People are missing out and I guess they’ll never see the beauty.
I just had moved to this area in octillo 1 month prier and the 18th is my son's birthday. I dont remember this storm but I live in the very West of Octillo Wells so its totally possible it didnt reach my home. Beautiful place for thunderstorms in the Summer's
This was so interesting and satisfying to watch. I was enthralled by the rain and sound, I could almost smell that new fresh scent shortly after a rainfall. I’m not a fan of rain but I found it beautiful in the desert.
My aunt lives in a desert type of town in California. She sends me photos and stuff about the town. She also posts photos on her Facebook. It's pretty where she lives.
Beautiful video! Good job! Reminds me of the big flood that came through Ocotillo in September of '77. Hurricane Kathleen parked itself over the top of the mountains, right where the old Desert View Tower is. Six inches of rain fell in six hours. A wall of water a mile wide and 30 feet high came through Ocotillo. You can still see the scar it left by using the satellite view tool on Google maps. Thank God the Winter people had not yet arrived. Took out the town, the old SD&AE railroad, and a good-sized chunk of I-8.
@@RandomEndeavors - and shakin all over....... JUST DONT MOVE lol Been watching the Nebraska flooding from UK and your vid popped up, cheers for posting.
Nice video. It pays to stay attentive in certain terrain. I could just hear the plants sucking and slurping the bounty of water. The best i could come up with to imitate the sound in my head would be " thrthrthrthrthrthr".
Brilliant video. I was searching for this kind of video since I never watched rains in desert and want to see how a rain affects the area that is characterised for the lake of water.
So what is making the frothy milk shake looking stuff seen on/in the water... here in the tri-state of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio we have flash floods on a yearly basis but never seen water look like what's in your video
Beautiful video. Very good that you show us how it starts, how it finds the way down, how it grows bigger and bigger. How much greener the landscape is by the water. Amazing good. Thank you very much. ❤👍
and you just happened to be there to see this and record it.... pretty awesome.... I like this video for 2 reasons... 1 ) being seeing mother nature and what a dessert rain is like and 2 ) NO STUPID MUSIC....was very enjoyable to watch... thank you.
After the rain the desert looks like ocean without water. Catus and shrubs look like coral and seaweed. Never noticed that before..🤔
I have thought the same thing...this area is lower than sea level and use tobe a shallow in land sea.
most desert they're used to be ocean afaik
Can smell the fragrance of soil ....sooooo satisfying
How?? Which device??

What a great day the desert meets the water! Like two old friends meet each other after a long time. Amazing beautiful this desert!!

Hi beautiful
@@alwaysuseless I made the mistake of camping in a dry river bed when I was younger to keep winds off. Yeah it got deep quick
You have to love the creek beds when the wheels are off are dry and out of nowhere it floods.

The amount of water is dangerous for the plants. It will drown them. Plants can indeed drown (crazy I know)

Only time when the desert looks and smells beautiful. . When it rains
LumberJack Because that is the only time the desert itself looks and smells like life

Would argue desert nights are better than most. Solitude, vast plains & starry skies

Flooding like this on "Amargosa River" between Las Vegas and Tonopah in Navada. It's actually a dry wash of course, except when it floods like this. ☺
