Just had to break up with Zatara after following them from the beginning. I think everyone knew that their worldly view was closer to Trump than to reality but they seemed like thoroughly decent people regardless. They have sadly reverted to the loud mouthed obnoxious Americans who feels it’s their god given right to ignorantly tell the citizens of their host country how the should govern themselves and what rules we should follow. I’m so hoping that when you guys catch up to real time you haven’t done the same, it would break my heart but have high hopes for you after having following you for a long time now. All the best and I am really enjoying your vids.😁
Hmm. I haven't seen their latest video yet (slow internet here ATM), but I can tell you that we are both grateful to be here in Australia. We both disagreed with the rules they applied to sailors coming in from overseas, but it was a price we were willing to pay to get to safety. We are extending our VISAs and are very happy to be here still. ~Seth
As always, I am so impressed with the boy's. They tell you it's a wish list, but the don't expect all of their wishes. We always end up smiling watching them, and the Archer adventure!
I always love your videos--great editing and love the relaxing tone! Fun to see Zatara and love the part where you were tossing the orange back and forth.

How wonderful to have a buddy boat pacing you on this long voyage! Especially having that boat be Zatara! Christmas a5 sea with your family was a real treat to see and loved watching the lads opening their presents together.
Hey Guys, it's interesting to read the comments about how folks would rather have the O-51 instead of the Privilege. Having seen the walkthrough that Seth did with Brent, from Multihull Central, I'd call Archer an expedition Outremer. You guys have a ton of toys on that boat! Have to agree with Seth and Doug (from another video M.C. produced) having a boat that sails exceptionally well in light airs is the best. Great vid again!

Another great episode. We watched you on AIS coming across from Fiji and seeing your boys enjoy Xmas onboard was such a delight. They're such wonderful to each other and to you both. MERRY belated CHRISTMAS. Thanks for sharing, we really appreciate y'all showing us some of your adventures. From your fans here in the central Florida swamps, fair winds and following seas. 👍👍🐾
I finally get to see the other side of this. On Zaitara it was just "hey look, we came in 12 hours behind a performance boat". I perceived that there was more to it than that and wondered how much fuel they burned. I don't think this was a good comparison. This was an edge case that involved a crazy amount of motoring because your weather window's only criteria was "no cyclones". So you had to leave when there was no wind. The only time you were right next to each other under sail was when Z was literally on their very best point of sail in their very best conditions. For you it was just meh. They also had a waterline advantage when neither boat was going to exceed hull speed and when their underpowered sails could slowly get their boat up to speed because there was not enough chop to interrupt the building of that momentum. Even with all those lucky perks a boat with 13% more waterline was moving appx 11% slower.. rather than faster. In that tiny snapshot you left them behind. Imagine if you both left the Galapagos at the same time for the Marquesas. You did it in some teen days... I'll bet they would have been in the high 20 days. And... you have a reasonable option of turning around and heading back to Tahiti or even the Marquesas. You can stay in the 30-something latitudes and deal with the tail/reach/headwinds and make it back that way. Z would have a very very hard time doing that. The other variable you can't measure is how the boat's motion affected comfort. You'd win that hands down.. and I think I heard a brief comment from Keith on the radio that they weren't comfortable which might confirm it. Performance all the way. Give me a boat that allows for the most options for travel, with the least maintenance downtime and the least motoring time. To me, that's what an expedition is all about.
@@TheSailingFamily lol. Thanks!... but I'd just be repeating what you, puffin, SLVB and sail surf roam have already done =) I won't be able to put my thoughts to the test until I head out on my own which isn't going to be for about another 8 years.
I am torn honestly. The maintenance of Keith's boat would certainly be a big downer for my preference. He is the kind of person that loves to sink his teeth into it though, so that is great for him. The fuel cost of his boat is also rather disconcerting to me when things are not favorable. But that is the price of comfort. I am someone who tends to slant to comfort but I also prefer simplicity and practicality. Javalo from the Crusing Kiwi's is a much smaller Privilege I think. (42' ?) And they hit every bit as much speed and smooth ride as zatara can. It is also no less comfortable in many ways either. And the smaller size doesn't seem to be much of a limiter to them. They do not have the redundant systems of Zatara or excess storage, but they have much the same fuel range and amenities over all. Their boat has just not been kitted out quite so much. And it was also a much cheaper purchase for them than either Zatara or Archer. Fuel consumption I bet would sit somewhere in between the other two. So maybe for some it would be a decent compromise.
@@wishusknight3009 There is a perfect boat for everyone and not everyone is suited for a performance boat. What bothers and scares me a bit is how the big cat manufacturers have evolved their designs into boats that have sacrificed seaworthiness, speed and build quality for fancy gadgets. It's like they are building condos that happen to float. Lagoons are a perfect example of this. The bottom line is to know what your boat is really capable of doing and not doing and to stay within it's capabilities. Also, along the path towards mastery there is a place where you don't even know what you don't know. I hope would-be cruisers get past this place before they head out- they need to know what they don't know and fill in those gaps. Lovely video! Always so fun watching. Wish I was with you out there on the ocean. ⛵ About the boats. Archer is absolutely a hundred times more beautiful than Zatara. That red color just makes it even more beautiful. And the speed is of course something that can come in handy from time to time. But.... If I sailed around the world, then my boat would be my home where I have to be for a very long time, which means that I personally would be much more comfortable having a lot of space to move around on, and a lot of place for all that extra equipment and stuff to make my life on the ocean as easy and good as possible. So I personally would 10 times out of 10 choose a bigger "Expedition" boat. No less than 55 foot, but preferebly a 60 foot boat, with a big flybridge to give even more space to be on. But that is me, and I of course respect and accept anyone with a different view of it all. There are always pros and cons with both boats no matter how much one wants to argue back and forth which is "best".😀 Much love to ya all guys! 💙
Archer.. I guess the less said about the err.. phew.. there is no nice way top say it, but attitude makes such a difference. Keith and I would be arguing a lot...
I can’t imagine how stressful it must be to be given one hour to leave you home and have to prepare entertainment for 3 boys for two weeks in a hotel room. Absolutely fantastic parents
For your 151st comment, I'd like to echo the thoughts of the very last comment you received, by JoeyDR14, Great parenting job!!!! You guys are not only making it work, you're doing well...your boys have character, and you're building that character out at sea??? FML 😆😆 That's not always easy to do, even on dry land!!! Oh and many props to Hale....he totally killed it in the opening!!! Good Job!!👍👍👍👍
If you’re going to compare boats it makes sense to compare boats of similar size and budget like a 5X in this case. You were doing ok though on a much smaller boat even if you seem to sail pretty conservative which makes sense in your situation (makes sense anyway touring the world). (Broad) reaching in enough wind a lot of cats can go 9 knots.

@@TheSailingFamily you make a good point. I stopped following Zatara after Keith's jingoistic rant and here he is again. But yes, I should leave politics out of sailing discussions. 👍
An easy answer.Archer has the most important of equipmen, and that is the most lovely, caring un-American people who are on board. No arrogance or enormous ego just beautifull people with love in their hearts. The interactions your family has with each other is not only inspiring but beautifull to watch.ARCHER 1....... ZATARA 0. HANDS DOWN.
As Always a great video.... Do not know how you manage to film those waterline shots. I see NSW locked down again for covid-19. and NZ locked down for 3 days for one case of the covid, probably the Delta version. Here in North America still up in arms about "to Mask or not to Mask"
Hi Nice to meet You all I hv be following the Z family for a quiet a while And hv just found your family Your boys are gorgeous I hv 4 boys 3 closer in age like yours and one 10yrs older My youngest baby is now 16 I Loved watching your Christmas day How special and sweet Brings back memories of our Christmas My partner and I hv a 23ft Marinar We are looking to buy a catamaran now Hope to meet up with you all one day in your travels We live in Merimbula NSW AUSTRALIA But we plan to cruise Australia when we buy a catamaran ☺❤😉
"Truth be told, though, you get over 10 kn it starts getting uncomfortable, people start getting seasick. The boat can do it, but can you?" Excellent point. Boy, do I miss your videos.
I would love to be on Archer boat, the boat may not be a larger as the Z crew. BUT you all get to places faster and don't seem to have as many as break downs as the Z crew boat.
Another great vid Seth. Good on ya mate’. I’d take Archer over Zatara any day. If you were outrunning storms that 10-15% could make all the difference. Not to mention the double fuel costs. Fine if you’re a millionaire. I don’t watch Zatara YT much, but did see the -one hour to vacate your boat-(for the quarantine) video from their prospective. Seemed somewhat ridiculous to ask you to pack and lock down your boat that quick. Wow. I also watched the tour you did, with Multihull Central on YT, It’s a really decent video showing Archer. All the best to you and your family. Thanks for sharing.
Both Great Boats and Great Families !! They are at just two Different Points in their life.....Its like many of us We had the Fast sleek cars when we where young but that soon brought us to The Station Wagons, Mini Vans and Super SUVS..........As we grow older comfort and Slower pace of life sets in......I have no Need to go back and Race My Hobie 18 in 30 Knots of Wind.........Will continue to Watch Both Families live their Dreams and very thankful for the time Taken to film and edit these video and Sharing them with us. The Joy it Brings this Old Man whom Days have past are very much APPRECIATED !!! Cheers
It's s funny how one perceives new places "friendliest people on earth's." In my experience we encounter friendly people when we are away from home and open to the new, trusting in others goodness. I went to many places and I noticed most times friendliest people. I think we are more open. Which boat I want to be on? Hmmm Probably yours or the one where I can cook healthy veggie gourmet meals and have a tiny space to myself and actually can do some active hands on sailing.best wishes.
You are a lucky man my friend. Your wife has a very nice disposition, always smiling (well for the camera anyway), and she enjoys keeping herself tone with TRX and yoga. What do you do to stay in shape? Having sailed (and raced) I know can it can be a strenuous process and can be a workout in and of itself. (Also keeping up with twin boys was always helpful to keep on the path for me), just curious if you do anything onboard to stay fit during passage. Thanks in advance.
That's nice that you sailed with zatara I enjoyed your video and merry Christmas to you both. Stay safe God bless you all. I was watching from Roseville California USA Ray Garrett.
One of the reasons I encourage our kids to watch this channel is in the hope that your kids will rub off on them a little bit. When they were younger, they were much like yours and still are today to some extent. However, in mingling with other kids at school and friends, some of the shine has worn off. Hope you are able to keep your boys the fine upstanding young men that you are teaching them to be. Thanks for the comparison of a larger cat vs a smaller performance cat, that will help volumes when we move up to our next boat, cast off the lines and set a course over the horizon in pursuit of Archer and Zatara.
Another great episode in your sailing adventure. I continue to be amazed how well your family and in particular your three boys seem to do so very well getting along with each other. As the father of two daughters, I think back to when they were your children's age and wonder how they would have done confined to never being more than 51' apart. Looking forward to your next episode in quarantine.
They're good kids. Hale sets a good example as an older brother, but I think it helps that they are so close in age (15 months and 22 months apart). They play very well together. Sure, they fight sometimes, but I have to say it's quite rare. ~Seth
Seems like you are burning through that backlog of footage pretty fast. Thanks for the weekly videos. It would be interesting to hear what your current cruising plans are going to be as it seems things are locking down again. Love to hear it on IG if you are willing to share.
Fantastic video. Lovely to see the boys enjoying Christmas and glad that Santa found you. Was curious to know how you were texting between boats when you were out of cell range. Were you using sat wifi?
Didn’t realize Zatara was 58 feet. Wow! Great video on the boat comparison. Love both your channels ❤️ Although they have won the race of real time video😂
@@TheSailingFamily IMHO you have better content to work with. What a wonderful, sweet family! I love the Christmas decor 😍. Thanks so much for sharing.
Something I would be very interested in knowing is the crew requirements between you and Zatara. Keith has himself, his accomplished wife and their three adult or darn near adult strong, sailor competent children. Everyone including his daughter takes watches. I haven't seen much so far on your channel, but it has to be just you and your wife handling the watches. Speak of it, please. Your children are adorable, but I want to know more about you and your accomplished wife, what's-her-name (So sorry. Brand new (the last 30 minutes) to your channel. Your wife is important. Name her frequently!). More about you and your wife and the sailing, please. The real interest and pleasure is derived from you and your adventures. The vast majority of us have our own adorable children and grandchildren. As exquisite as your children are, the real interests are in your sailing travails, adventure and the eventual wonderful destinations. We all gots kids. What we don't got is Tahiti, the Marquises, wind, waves, sailing and diving the Great Barrier Reef. Give us your adventures and our "wish we were you fantasies". Those are what keeps us on your channel. Do good. Looking forward to a lot more of you.
This is the video I've been waiting for.. Where you guys beat Zatara! Just kidding but when I saw their video I knew I wanted to hear your opinion. Both vessels are magnificent and have their strengths and weaknesses but what you said is true if you had 3 teenagers on board you might agree with Keith but Archer is perfect for you guys for now.
So this is a serious? and in no way judgmental? How do you feel about including your children in video's? I only ask because I have thought of making imaginative education oriented content including my son. (He is almost 4) I'm not sure if it is right to do so even though it could be an interesting project for us an possibly develop a revenue stream. Any thoughts, experiences, personal benefits, regrets ect...? Best Wishes. Keep On Cruisin;)
It's been half a year since you guys arrived in Oz and the publishing of your latest vid, but hey, welcome to Australia, Archer! Great to have you here! Hope you get to enjoy your stay with us during this chaotic season. Blessings
Appreciate the comforts of a/c and generators but the colors (Archer Red and Pu'u Honua Green), speed and quality build offered by Outremer provide an Archer edge.
Archer for sure.... since you guys are open, respectfull to other cultures and countries and i am sure zatara carries weapons on board to protect them from?????
Archer wins on style alone. Gorgeous. Excellent construction and perfect layout doesn’t hurt! I follow both channels and feel that each made the right decision for their families. Definitely wouldn’t complain about the amenities on Keith’s boat but Archer is not lacking much. First gen Nautitech 482 is our budget now but could be an O 51 before we throw the lines. Great family, thanks for sharing this adventure.
I was watching the Wynn's post about how hesitant and strict the NZ authorities were with them because of a previous UA-camr being pretty awful in terms of respect and not following the rules. I was wondering who it was, and while I'm glad it's not Archer or Ruby Rose, I'm not super surprised by who it turned out to be.
I've been waiting for this episode for 6 months since you showed up on their channel. I was expecting a cursory nod to them, but you did a full crossover episode and exceeded my expectations. Thank you. I love the discussion about which boat is better, because you're both correct. There's no one boat for everyone. As the sailing vloggers grow it would be good to see more crossovers and seeing the differences in styles. Taylor's travels has recently joined sv delos from sailing doodles and it's interesting to see how the dynamics change.
I love your family. I can't believe you don't have more followers? What's wrong with these people lol?? great episode and great filming. Excited to see the rest of your adventure
And this because of the first 4/5 days without wind .. would have been two nights easily.. very interesting comparison thanks for sharing this trip together you and Zatara
Very nice put together, specially as I follow Zatara also ! When it comes to "outrun a storm" ,or weather issues in general,I am not sure if it makes a lot of a difference, there is also a possibility of running into bad weather with a performance cat,or not?
We out-ran a storm in our 13th episode while many other boats had to stall and wait for the storm to pass south of them for several days. It’s not common, but yes, Performance cats can get you there faster and “out run” a storm: ua-cam.com/video/JM_rMy5hy5s/v-deo.html
I always look forward to watch Archer and Zatara. They're my best. To top that, seeing you two together on the ocean, what a great bond, connection and looking out for each other. Thank you for taking me along your journey...

Great episode. Really enjoyed your commentary and your honest take on the comparisons of the boats.
Cheers
Hi Seth is it possible to share average speeds per 24h or per trip more often instead of the speed at a particular moment?
sailing family for the win....
Lovely video! Always so fun watching.
Wish I was with you out there on the ocean. ⛵
About the boats.
There are always pros and cons with both boats no matter how much one wants to argue back and forth which is "best".😀
Much love to ya all guys! 💙
Great kids and parents for teaching them to share that love is more important then valuables
Interesting to watch the two different perspectives of a similar story from two different sailing channels. Well Done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Archer.. I guess the less said about the err.. phew.. there is no nice way top say it, but attitude makes such a difference. Keith and I would be arguing a lot...
Me too!
Archer, hands down.
AGREED!
I can’t imagine how stressful it must be to be given one hour to leave you home and have to prepare entertainment for 3 boys for two weeks in a hotel room.
Absolutely fantastic parents
Love Zatara and Family! Miss Anna very much! Love your family too! The boys are adorable. Oh yeah, and love your “little” red sailboat!
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication 👍👍👍😬
If you’re going to compare boats it makes sense to compare boats of similar size and budget like a 5X in this case. You were doing ok though on a much smaller boat even if you seem to sail pretty conservative which makes sense in your situation (makes sense anyway touring the world). (Broad) reaching in enough wind a lot of cats can go 9 knots.
Definitely Archer! But if money were no object, would have to step up to the O55! Thanks for the great content. Cheers
Beautiful way to spend Christmas! Those boys will have great memories. Well done guys….from white rock bc Canada…. Cheers
Im danish and Lego is danish and Lego meen.. Le.. as leg in danish meen PLAY in enlish and go meen godt meens Well in english just a lillte leason in what Lego is a Word .. Lego is two split Word in danish PLAY Well ... Leg godt... Lego
That's amazing. I've played with Lego as a kid 40 years ago and I didn't know that! ~Seth
This is basically sailing Zatara five years ago , Interesting channel, I haven’t quite taken the bait yet but getting close.
No need to take the bait. We post for fun and for ourselves! Enjoy the channel - we're not trying to make money or be internet famous.
The one that is not a Trumper. If both are then I'd swim with sharks...
How did you bring politics into this?!? 😂 And by the way, while we don’t agree completely in Politics, I like how Kieth and I can talk about Politics without it being contentious. I wish more people were like that. ~S
@@TheSailingFamily you make a good point. I stopped following Zatara after Keith's jingoistic rant and here he is again. But yes, I should leave politics out of sailing discussions. 👍
The love that your family have for each other is heart warming. You can't help smile and just feel happy. God Bless
We love your channel. However, please be aware, featuring Zatara will pollute your channel.
Thanks for sharing another great episode. It’s always nice to hear the honest commentary and the pros and cons of your experiences.
Wonderful memories that never will be forgotten. 👍😎👍💕
"Truth be told, though, you get over 10 kn it starts getting uncomfortable, people start getting seasick. The boat can do it, but can you?"
Excellent point.
Cheers
It's s funny how one perceives new places
"friendliest people on earth's." In my experience we encounter friendly people when we are away from home and open to the new, trusting in others goodness. I went to many places and I noticed most times friendliest people. I think we are more open. Which boat I want to be on? Hmmm
Probably yours or the one where I can cook healthy veggie gourmet meals and have a tiny space to myself and actually can do some active hands on sailing.best wishes.
Rather have the *Outremer* : Faster sailing, sail in light breeze, cheaper motoring, ~6 tonnes lighter, ~1m less draft. Sexier looking boat.
Awesome family, living a dream and making it real!
~Seth
OMG they don't know how to use an old school phone...I was enjoying the video right up until the moment the boys made me feel ancient!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, my beautiful Sailing Family! I am so happy that you have been doing great in Australia 2021!
Love both your channels ❤️
Although they have won the race of real time video😂
Crushing it, really! I can’t compete with Renee on editing! 🤣 ~Seth
Blessings
I would like to send the boys a gift. Is that even possible? How can I send you a physical product? (Its a movie DVD/Blu-Ray/Digital Download.)
AHHH! What incredible young men you have raised! That's time stamp up to 5:05. Looking forward to the rest of the video.
Appreciate the comforts of a/c and generators but the colors (Archer Red and Pu'u Honua Green), speed and quality build offered by Outremer provide an Archer edge.
It was nice to see how much the boys care about each other.
Very impressive fish!
Great Christmas celebration and fishing, performance cat wins this race in my opinion.
Great christmas the best parent's on ocean. Good luck in Australia
Archer for sure.... since you guys are open, respectfull to other cultures and countries and i am sure zatara carries weapons on board to protect them from?????
In your little armada, each vessel carries great men and women be they adult or child; so it doesn't matter what vessel you are on.
Washing machine is a must though, sorry!
Toast and Vegemite is what you need to fight off seasickness. It cures everything between dandruff and ingrown toenails.
Good job mom and dad! Sweet boys!
Love your films 👍🏻
Hey, it is good to see you again.. i watched your video many years ago.. your honeymoon lagoon 380 was beautiful..
You'll see that boat again soon! Hint Hint...
The boat is now in Australia right??
You should get some audio of Santa and his sleigh, mount some kind of Bluetooth speaker on a drone and then fly it over the boat Christmas Eve.
A back scratcher for the bugs biting your little guy's back, made me chuckle, awesome XMAS lists......
haha. us too! he got one! ~S
Y'all are some great parents.
That’s a great summary of the episode. We agree! ~Seth
Big props, Seth and most importantly Elizabeth- Your kids are great and you’re doing a phenomenal job raising them; it’s so obvious they are maturing
Wish you sold that hat you're wearing with the Archer logo for men., I'd buy one.
Given Vatara,s actions in NZ and when they arrived in Aus the answer is simple
It looks like the NZ folks are not being too easy with American yacht vloggers after Keith passed through.....
I noticed that Zatara does not give enough feature of their buddy boats....
@@cochinaable could be that people dont wanna be in their videos, could be they tend to put down the camera when hanging out with people.
so the reason you need a fast boat, not to outride storms, but to peak-a-boo another slow boat (Zatara?) please don't hate, joking only
Lap up those Christmas's and everything else involving the kids while there young ,because there 20 before you realize it!!
And that’s exactly why we are out here doing this!
Your are Good parents and you have 3 boutyfull Boys.. Lovely kids❤️👍🇩🇰
Thank you so much 😊
I have a permanent smile on my face watching your videos always.
That boat is fast, everything is a race, whether they know it or not
I love your family. I can't believe you don't have more followers? What's wrong with these people lol?? great episode and great filming. Excited to see the rest of your adventure
You're the best! ~S
Lol I watch Renee and Keith on zatara, which I love ..first time here and omg your boys are adorable !! Will be back!
WELCOME ABOARD!
And this because of the first 4/5 days without wind .. would have been two nights easily.. very interesting comparison thanks for sharing this trip together you and Zatara
Glad you enjoyed it!
It’s not common, but yes, Performance cats can get you there faster and “out run” a storm:

@@TheSailingFamily thank you for the practical insight. 😊
I always look forward to watch Archer and Zatara. They're my best. To top that, seeing you two together on the ocean, what a great bond, connection and looking out for each other. Thank you for taking me along your journey...
Our pleasure!
Thanks for this episode. I liked the racething. I do that too all the time cause it gives energy to it all. Your family are awesome. /Magnus Sailor from Stockholm.
Awesome! Thank you!
Welcome to Australia and enjoy 👌
The 585 is my dream boat, so no hard choice for us.
