Patek Philippe 5711 Nautilus Blue Dial - Best Nautilus Ever??

- When you think of Gerald Genta you think of Nautilus. The 5711 is Pateks purest example of that model. Simple clean and classic with no complications. Some people may call it the ultimate Nautilus, others like me may say it's not. I would say that it's the purist expression of the Nautilus. What will also say is that the blue dial stands out for me way more than the white dial. Not that the white dial is ugly but the blue just says so much more and compliments the over all design of this model. What dial would you take for your Patek Philippe 5711 steel?

That blue dial Patek philippe nautilus is a true grail. Often imitated but never duplicated. For those who know what it is, you don't have to say a word. That blue dial says it all. And it flies below the radar of most clout chasers and gold diggers because its not flashy, it's classy. If you know, you know. Great video Eric, that's an awesome wrist piece 👏😎👍

Unless you buy a watch for business reasons… you should buy a watch because you like it! The price won’t change the look of it! Personally… I’m a sucker for the blue dial 5711… Such a timeless and versatile design! If I had to choose only one watch for the rest of my life it would be that beauty! I believe you are spot on Eric. The 5711 Blue dial is a great watch, but after seeing in person, does not have a commanding presence on or off the wrist. I was drawn to the 5980 AR because it was more watch, better movement and the electric gradient blue in the dial subtly spoke out. I am glad I bought the 5980 AR.

Great content, Eric! I love the 5711! Kind of partial to the white dial, but the other colors aren’t bad. I’d definitely pay retail and wear it as a daily if it was available. But I give it a hard pass for $100K.

Side by side, displayed in person at the show, I find the 5712 more special. It is as slim and elegant despite the complications. The blue with moon phase and power reserve makes it more exciting to look at.

I’ll take either dial but I do prefer the blue. This is a class watch without the look-at-me bling.
It’s crazy. I purchased my 5711 before it became a thing. Hardcore Patek owners shunned the piece as they felt it was too entry level to be part of the Patek family. But on the flip side it was one of the few pieces that Patek had created that I could actually afford. I was tempted to part with it many times but I’m glad I held on because at over $100k I know for sure that I would not make that purchase. Great video.

I just tried on the 5711 green dial. It’s really more olive. It does not look as good as the blue dial. I was surprised, but the shade of green wasn’t beautiful.

Solid video. I wouldn't pay over 100k US for a Patek, looks definitely understated for a 100k watch... probably wouldn't even pay 40k US tbh. Could you do something simple like a DJ36 diamond blue dial? 41s are too hyped these days

This watch is amazing to look at. From the pics it’s definitely has some wear. My question is to bring this piece back to like new condition, does the polishing change the dimensions of the watch a lot? If that bezel has dings on the shard edge I assume a good amount of material is removed. So a surface that’s 3mm could in fact become 3.5mm as the thickness goes from 2mm to 1.75 mm. If the thickness is reduced via polishing them does the screws need to be reduced it size also? This type of watch seems to be a nightmare to polish compared to something with a rotating bezel. I dinged the bezel on my explorer. After polishing it never felt the same. That sharp edge just never felt as sharp. Make sense? Or am I just looking at it to critical?
I figure, buy it as is. Pay a bit less and then leave it unpolished. That’s the smart move.
I did the same for a blue dial about 10 years ago that cost 19k at the time. It was too dainty for me. I ended up getting a 5980 blue dial but parted with that last year.

Hey Eric iam fan of blue dial thats what define porthole but one thing i wanna say is that when 5711 came in 2006 it too was not hot item at that time it was sitting in shelves of AD
maybe today this white dial is not as desirable right now

Can’t agree on colors. There’s a thing beyond taste and you won’t be able to un-see it, btw: blue dials on 5711 are always looking like they a bit tarnished and patinated or that lacquer was spilled to much on dial. White dial is super accurate and clean. Somehow, even the watch itself: with blue dials they look like they’re worn and used, while white Nautiluses with white dials look new even when scratched and worn. Same is with fonts: on blue, the print looks like an afterthought, while on white it’s organic and natural.
5711 is nice for sure but 5980 is el jefe 👌 much love to Miami
I watched how polish remove scratches. Use tape over glass and any part you don't want touched. Lines are made with one way scratch sweep sand paper. In like 180 grit. Best play around spare watch. I used polish watch had never looked back I do rings, coins. Deep scratch you have go to put level not faint at heart
