Ï believe that race (1984 Breeders' Cup Clasic) was instrumental in my getting the Eclipse Award. That one single race took my career to the next level. I got national exposure, international exposure"

Biggest rob job in sports history! Gate Dancer should've been moved up to 1st, Slew O Gold 2nd, and that donkey Wild Again 3rd for leaning on Slew O Gold down the entire stretch. I drove past Gate Dancer in Ocala on his farm for 10 years (91'-2001). Whenever I'd stop and stare in appreciative amazement he always acknowledged my existance! One of the classiest of all time! The Great Gate Dancer!

You wussy I had $5wps on the winner who kept his path the rail because he was fastest. Even faster than the money burner Chris Mc prized Precisionist. My dad gave me some big bills shaking his head saying I was right. I was almost 18 but stayed home that day. What a great memory I have of that race

Thea worlds best and underrated jockey won that race in the third quarter; after a 22 3/5 first quarter and a 23 second quarter, he got Wild Again a 25 second third quarter. That breather was clearly enough to give Day the extra he needed for the win. Also, if you read the past performances, Wild Again loved hard tracks. Hollywood Park that year, was a freeway! Slew o gold with sore feet was never going to win that day, and Dancer’s running style was hampered by the same track conditions. Little known trainer Vincent Tymphony kept WA very sharp leading up to the race, even using a turf race as the final prep. Brilliant training, brilliant ride, exceptional horse, equals huge victory and major payoff.

They were all closely bunched and there was nowhere to go. All the horses ran reasonably straight. No foul there.

Thirty-five years later and my opinion hasn't changed. Gate Dancer was shammed out of a Breeder's Cup Classic win. He had a bad reputation for lugging in, out, and being a headcase of a horse. Very few jockeys were willing to ride him. Eddie Delahoussaye wanted no part of him after being taken down by the stewards a couple of times. Only Angel Cordero and Laffit Pincay had the disposition amd raw strength to handle him. It's unfortunate that reputation cost him.

When I took my helmet off, God was the farthest thing from my mind. I was just going to kind of pal myself on the back, showboat, but when I reached for my helmet, I was overcome by the voice of God"

Pat Day screwed Easy Goer in the 1989 Preakness and, especially, in the 1989 Breeders Cup. I still haven’t forgiven him for that

P Day was against two legends A Cordero and L Pincay Jr in the gutsy fight here.

Gate Dancer must’ve had a win bet on Wild Again

Slew O' Gold was not 100% that day. If he had been, he would've won.

I won a pile of money on this race, because you had to take a shot against a 1-5 favorite wearing a bar shoe--but Wild Again, despite running perhaps the most remarkable race I have ever seen, should have come down, because he did bear out into Slew O' Gold.

Day "My horse was drifting left the whole race." He obviously came out and should have been dq'd. Even the Hollywood Park stewards said after that they made a mistake because they were looking at the lines on the track that the tractors made to determine, but the lines on the track were not straight at all. The stewards later said Wild Again should have been dq'd for coming out.
