Welcome to the Renaissance! Ren is my favourite artist of all time. I say artist because he is a multifaceted diamond! From singing (all styles) to rapping (bars/flows/schemes for days), Bardcore (story telling) beatbox, makes his own beats, scatting and a multi instrumentalist (guitars, bass, drums, melodica and more). On top of that he is the most beautiful human being inside and out who has been through and continues to go through absolute hell.
Ren is 33 from Anglesey, Wales originally but spent most his life in Brighton, England. He has been very ill for years, at one point being completely bed ridden. He was misdiagnosed for years, being told he was bipolar, had M.E and more and was prescribed medications that made him worse and ended up in psychosis. It turns out Ren had Lyme disease which has caused havoc on his body. He’s been living in Calgary, Canada all year receiving intense medical treatment for his brain damage and mast cell activation disorder amongst other things that were caused by the Lyme disease.
He started off making beats at 12 and selling CDs then moved on to busking. He was part of a band called Trick The Fox and was signed to Sony but they didn’t renew the contract after his health deteriorated. He then started The Big Push. They went on hiatus the end of last year after 5 years partly due to his move to Canada and also because the other members are also soloists and were moving around too.

Glenn Chambers (Irish) - drums mostly
The Big Push formed in 2017. Initially being Ren, Romain and Gorran with Glenn joining later to play drums.
Gorran and Romain met busking, Romain and Ren then met through Facebook while Ren was trying to find a flat mate. They would all busk together and Glenn would sit in as drummer while also playing bass with another friend Rafa. They then decided to become a band and would take to the streets of Brighton and also created masterpieces of their own.
They played numerous gigs including a sold out tour of the U.K. and also released a 6 track EP called “Can Do Will Do”.
They busked together for the last time on 14th December 2022 and played their final gig at the Brighton Dome a short while later. Having to go on hiatus due in part to Ren moving to Canada for medical treatment and their lives going in different directions. Although they remain good friends and Ren and Romain have mentioned wanting to play together again.

The greatest thing about all these different people from around the world reactin to Ren is that theres always conversation about the substance of the words, its not just "yeah, that was bangin"
Think how many lives Ren has saved, either by someone watching his work directly and seeing a way out, or just saying out loud "That's where *I am* !".... or by someone realising they have a friend in trouble and "making that call"?

Someone recently dug up a clip from years ago of Ren describing his musical genre. With a smile, he says “rhythmalogical-melodically-hip-hoppy-folky-bluesy-shoezy-rastaman mashup”.

Ren has been on the brink of death for so many years now, you'll find he don't have the same brik wall of shame as most of us. I have seen this man cry more than any other man I know in my real life. It has only made me more attracted to him. He is smart, sincere and a creative genius, but most of all love. But also a cocky, cheeky MF, whos a right laugh.

Ren is a generational talent. A literary and musical genius. For me there's been no one like him since David Bowie.

he's an alright rapper, he's a great artist though.
Yeah man, "loosing It", "Genisis", "Loco", "Seven Sins", "Animal Flow" and many others, he can flow switch with the best of them.
It depends on who you talk to and what kind if rap they listen to. Many, many reactors think he's a great rapper. He has crazy flows, complex rhyme schemes & lyrical content. He's a very technical rapper. It's just that many don't get his bars and his hip hop is very diverse. Every song has some meaning even if it's a fun track that's not deep. There's always many Easter eggs and obscure references that are like inside jokes.
In "Losing It" he raps over an EDM track by Fisher.

I said all that to say I guess I’m out of pocket. This is the kind of artistry that gives "broken" people hope. Ren, through this performance piece, has become to a lot of people exactly what he stated in the song, "...the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope". So powerful, so impactful. Even the song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative then makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, tearing free and trying to take control, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will ALWAYS be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a beautifully cathartic and raw musical masterpiece. Ren is truly special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking. This was the 4th take he did and yes, it was done live. Wait until you hear some of his other stuff, especially his storytelling ("The Tale of Jenny & Screech"). You haven't even touched the breadth of this young man's talent yet.
The pig character (imo) represents the doctors and therapist who have essentially butchered him for years through their misdiagnosis. It's the system that focuses on peddling more pills than on genuinely trying to help to fix broken/ill people, caring more about profit than individual health. The bastardization of the hippocratic oath. He literally thought he was going insane because he was told repeatedly that the pain and symptoms he was experiencing were all in his head (psychosomatic). He had reached a point where he literally resigned himself to dying before he reached 30. Turns out he had Lyme's disease the whole time and it ran rampant through his system for 10 years, even to the point of causing brain damage. Ironically, if Ren hadn't gone through what he has, would he have ever made the art he has? There's no question that his suffering has shaped his music and now he's finally getting the recognition he undoubtedly deserves. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Ren is special.
Btw- if you happen to listen to some of his other stuff, like his "Money Game" trilogy, you'll find that the line "She sells sea shells on the seashore" is actually a call back. It hits a bit different when you know that. He does this in a number of his songs.

Well done for being in the very few (I'm over 500 reactors to Hi Ren now) who instantly understood the musical finale, both sides are needed to make the music true. Incorporate both and try to chill!!

Great Channel guys, The Ren algorithm brought me here. You HAVE to do Money Game Part 3 next. It's a true cinematic, musical masterpiece.
Keep in mind, this was done live! Imaging the pure skill it takes to play the guitar like that and rap/sing back and forth like that live! Ren is a f*cking genius!

He used to do live street performances with a band called The Big Push that are great, on their own. Definitely worth watching some of those vids too. "I Shot the Sheriff" mashup is great, then his work with Chinchilla "Chalk Outlines" live version is entirely different, and his solo rap "Losing It", "Genesis", "Sick Boi', and so many more. Such a talented artist. Oh yeah, he also does his own beats. You’re in for a treat on this ride.

It may not be as catchy as Queens "Bohemian Rhapsody" but, talent wise, this is up there. It's completely different and a live performance few could pull off - it's musical theater done by one guy with his guitar.

Then there is the dark and sad trilogy called "Tales of Jenny and Screech". Nothing will prepare you for that ride, and I recommend having something cheerful to watch after.
I've seen quite a few of these reviews and this is the first time I'd heard the comparison to DMX/Damien. That had not occurred to me. I've not heard those songs in a while, so I'll dig them up and take a listen. Thanks for the reaction and looking forward to more content!

This is the same room as Sick Boi, at the time he was shooting these videos Guerilla style, and this was the basement of his friend’s apartment building. He filmed a couple other videos in different parts of the building which look much different. But they had no budget, it’s literally his friends doing the filming/lighting and Ren did the video editing and all the audio editing.
