- Hello and welcome to Cloudforest Vibes! Today we are going to divide and repot a few Pings that I have been growing in my grow tent. They are super easy to care for and make a great companion plant for orchids as well as a functional addition to any grow space. Thanks for watching and happy growing!
Wow orchids! I newly started my ping collection
I just got my first two carnivorous plants. I’ve grown orchids for a couple of years, but these guys make me nervous. After seeing your napenthes video and now this, I feel a bit more confident. Thanks, I think you’ve got a good thing starting 😃
Paige thank you so much! There are some fussy ones but if you can keep orchids happy, you should t have any issues with a number of carnivorous plants. They have been a super fun and interesting addition to my orchid grow room and I cannot see myself without them now that I have them. The sticky ones do an AMAZING job with the little flying insects. Good luck in finding a few, there are several good sources online if you live in the states!
Pinguiculas seem to love splitting! I had one singular plant last year that split itself into so many that I was left with no choice but to divide them near the end of February. Now those have split too! They are fairly easy going and I love the blooms.
Avant-Gardening Studios that’s awesome! They are one plant that does seem to do really well with a nice tidy up. I’ve stopped pulling the dead leaves though, they are far too fragile. Hoping my original 3 are getting close to blooming size this year, I am dying to see the flowers in person. I’m going to have to start giving these things away soon if they keep dividing like this!! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the info, been thinkin mine need repotting...
I have found if mine aren't blooming, I get them more light and it seems to do the trick😊 and the blooms are VERY cute❣
Thanks for the tip! I have been thinking about finding a way to get them more light but I need more space. I will have to see what I can do... Thanks for watching! Happy growing!
OMGoodness!! Your greenhouse is overflowing.
Sally Alonzo things have escalated rather quickly... lmao! It really is turning into quite the jungle in there. So much fun! :) thanks so much for watching!
This is so helpful! Love that you use charcoal too.
I'm glad it was helpful, thank you for watching! Happy New Year and Happy growing!
I love the idea of using charcoal in the bottom of the pot.
Darrell Adams thank you!! I do it with my terrariums as well and that’s where I got the idea. It has seemed to work really well so far!
Brilliant!I'm going to repot my drosera the same way.Thank you.Very skillful again.Greetings,Irena
Your Teacher thank you Irena! I’ve wanted to get a few drosera for quite a while myself! Such neat plants and also effective for flying insects! I hope your repot does well! Stay safe, thanks for watching! 😊
I’ve been inspired Irena..... you’ll see a few Drosera in my collection VERY soon! 😝
I am very excited! Thank you for mentioning yours and reminding me how badly I’ve wanted them! ❤️
@@CloudforestVibesOrchidsMore Good😍,they are so lovely😍,when the sun shines on them, they are red, juicy, vibrant. Can't wait to see yours!!!
Your Teacher oh, I’ll bet!! I cannot wait to see for myself!! I’ll be sure to share when they come in! ❤️
Great video, been needing more info as we don't have much to go on here in AK
Mary Beth Lutrick thank you!! I’m no master ping grower by any means but they are very easy plants to grow if you can be gentle when potting them and keep them moist and bright. They can be quite tricky to get ahold of sometimes but if you can, I highly recommend them!
Very interesting soil. Personally never made use of those type of substrate, but your plants really look nice. :-)
I kind of just used what I had but the plants really seem to like it. I think this year I’m going to change up but it’s nice to know they will do ok in different types of media. What do you normally use, if I may ask?
Thanks for watching!
@@CloudforestVibesOrchidsMore we are currentlys using mostly mineral soil, based on lava and pumice, mixed with a tiny amount of peat just for a little stronger water storage. :-)
@@carniflor I will have to try a pumice mix this spring when I repot. Thanks for sharing and thanks again for watching!
Will that lifting technique work if I have a big butterwort ?
I just got a butterwort in the mail today it looks like it has 3 plants in the pot it’s the primrose one. What type of soil should I use? I have some leftover soil from my Venus fly trap could I use that?
What kind of water do you use for your pings?
I use filtered water or distilled…. Getting ready to release a video in the next week about how I filter water for my plants. Please make sure to check back and see! Thank you so much for watching! 😊
@@CloudforestVibesOrchidsMore thanks. Will do
can the offshoots be grown in just water?
I just got an Aphrodite, I now grow it in some peat with cactus substrate (no fertiliser), I am not sure if the potting mix is good for it.
So, I’ve always heard they like sandy/rocky soil. I used pest/perlite/sand mix for quite a while and had no issues (that’s basically cactus soil). I am switching all of mine into a different mix this spring though. Peat, silica sand and pumice is what I plan on going to. About 1/3 each part no matter which you decide. If in doubt, make it a little sandier and a little less peat.
Best of luck and happy growing! I hope this helps!
sorry do you have a full picture of the pinguicula flowers to idintificate the different pinguiculas?
I have a few but I need to get some better ones. I will post them to my Instagram page here in the next week so you can see!
When do they grow carnivorous leaves
When they grow leaves. Every leaf is carnivorous.
Did you receive my email of photos you wanted to see of my moss tray?
I did not! Please try to resend, I would love to see it!
