I heard that Anton had played on Unmasked sometime in the late 80's. Around 1992 or so, I sent a letter to the address they showed on Letterman when he did the viewer mail bit. I was wondering if I addressed it to Anton if they'd get it to him. I asked if it was true that he played on the record and if so which songs. A few week later, a large Manila envelope came in the mail. On the back of the envelope were the words "I played the whole record." Inside was an 8x10 autographed photo that looks like it was from a Frehley's Comet show. Thought that was very cool of him!
anton fig played on 1) ace frehley solo album 1978....2) dynasty , except dirty living which probably peter plays on, and 3) unmasked....anton was kiss ghost drumplayer. but when I listened to dynasty and unmasked at the time, it sure didnt sound like peter on those albums....
Heard of? Yes... watched the show? Very rare maybe 15 - 20 years ago... know or care about the names of the musicians on the show? No. Therefore I did not know Anton Fig was part of it. And for the record, I'm not American.
William Norman - I wanted to get to letterman but the Q&A’s That day we’re timed and we just ran out of it. I could have talked to him for another hour.
if he played on side 4 of alive ii he still might not have MET ace yet, as ace wasn't around during those sessions except to record his own song 'rocket ride'. bob kulick played lead on the rest of those songs.
1oTon Hammer I believe that KISS has never been a band for drummers to really reach their potential. I’m a KISS nut so don’t get me wrong. I was lucky enough to see ESP play in Sydney Australia and Singer was unreal. You really wouldn’t think it is the same guy with what he has to play in KISS.
It's amazing to hear that Anton played almost all of TWO Kiss albums. I had heard rumors that he played on "Unmasked", but I just found out tonight that he was the main drummer on "Dynasty". Also I used to see him in Paul Shaffers, World's Most Dangerous Band. When I heard the rumor, I didn't believe it because he is such a mild-mannered guy, (Although he did eat a bat once on Letterman! LOL) As for Peter, I always liked him in the band in the band because of his cool Catman persona, but if Anton played the albums, then he should have been a member of the band, I wonder what make-up persona would he have had?? 🤔 The Figman?? 😁😁😁
He played on Ace Frehley’s 1978 solo LP. He also played on Dynasty (1979) and Unmasked (1980) but was not credited. When Ace left KISS Anton played drums on Ace’s first solo LP put out in 1986. Great drummer! Not sure if you are a KISS fan. If you know the song I Was Made For Loving You, that’s him on drums!!
Mike Brunn I'm familiar enough with their anthology, and was delighted to go back and give all the things you mentioned a listen. I guess I figured that him and will lee were just too young to have been around like that!
Wonder if he auditioned for KISS when Peter left? I would assume Ace’s Solo Album, Dynasty and Unmasked would have been a pretty solid audition in its self.
He was actually in kiss for a day only for gene and Paul changed their minds because he was a great friend with ace and they thought they would fuck up partying all the time
Should have asked him about buying and consuming cough medicine with Ace for a cheap high. They would then "accidentally" drop the bottle to get two for the price of one. It's in Ace's book. Read that part and thought.......LOSER.
@scott dunn Sorry mate you are right it's been scientifically proven that getting a cheap high from cough medicine does make you perform at a higher level. Thanks for pointing that out to me. I am now officially a moron for thinking otherwise.

Dude, that is so cool. Great story. Thanks for sharing with us.
THE THING IS THAT Unmasked was released in the early 80s, Unrmasked was in 1980.
@@anderslindberg1243 Yes, but in the late 80s he heard that he'd played in unmasked back in 1980
He also played on dynasty.

It never crossed my mind to see Anton Fig at a Kiss Expo.......he definitely did earn his spot in the Expo.
Wow. Letterman's whole band was so talented. I think the best late night band ever assembled. Thanks for the interview Anton!
What a great interview, drummer, and human. I've loved Anton quite a while. Unsung hero proportions.
I love this guy! I always have. One of my drum hero's. This was a nice Q/A sesh. Informative, funny, light-hearted. What a guy... \m/ (:o)
A very underrated drummer
Not in my book ..been aware of Anton since early to min 80s
@@charleysmith3870 correct, he's very well known.
awesome drummer!
Incredible drummer, made a habit of showing up drummers on Letterman. So versatile and incredible.
WTF are you going on about? Seriously? The house band was there to do their job and be professional and not to show up people ffs.
He seems like an ok guy! One hell of a resume for sure.
He's humble...That's what makes him great!
I love Rip it Out.
I hope you suffer...
If you want a secret kept, Anton is the man!
huh?
thomas Day he kept playing on kiss albums a secret for like 30 years
@@damagelpt1295 lol 30 years? Maybe 5.
Thanks for filming this Mike!
Breakout kicked ass!
Nobody mentions what a great job he did for years on David Letterman. What's up with that?
About 6 comments say that on here. Learn to read before posting. SMFH
Haha he still has a very strong South African accent , love it
Ahhhh finally, a face to the name that I've seen mentioned on kiss albums all these years :D
So you never heard of David Letterman? SMFH
Heard of? Yes... watched the show? Very rare maybe 15 - 20 years ago... know or care about the names of the musicians on the show? No. Therefore I did not know Anton Fig was part of it. And for the record, I'm not American.
Anton FIG is the drummer on ACE FREHLEY 1978solo album
Ha, I'm sure no one in that audience knew who link wray was. I would have been asking Anton about that experience
Very cool! #AntonFig #KIssExpo
Nobody asked specifics about the Letterman band... How long did they rehearse to learn songs, etc.

The best drummer to play on kiss albums!! I know I know, but to me it’s true!!
Idk. Anton is great. But, Carr had a TON of untapped potential. Great drummer as well.
1oTon Hammer I believe that KISS has never been a band for drummers to really reach their potential. I’m a KISS nut so don’t get me wrong.

FIDO!!!!
Haha...15:58, baby! Of course the last comment on this page is the best!
Um ........... Anton didnt know who Ace was?? Whaaaaaat
Had a backstage Fig brush-with-greatness moment myself in Seattle in 1989...or was it 1991?
Fakename70 - It was 1989.
Keith Messier
Oh? And where might this have taken place, if you think you know?
Didn't know he played with kiss. Super sick, loved him on letterman.

Seen fig newton play with ace live. Fantastic drummer. 👍
What a moronic comment. Do you leave mommies basement? Honestly dumbest comment of the millennium
Did Anton ever play with Russ Ballard in the studio???
Anton is great, but man, the crowd's questions were total duds
Anton Zip.
Nat Below Zero Fu*k
Below zero Funk
He's a good guy, how much do you think he was paid to fly in for that 1/2 hour
He actually was there all day Sunday. He took pictures with fans and was signing autographs all day!
so lame nobody bothered to ask him how he did the rip it out drum break... ive never heard anybodu cover it like it.
I bet if they slapped the Catman makeup on Anton back in the 80s for a few shows most of us wouldn't have noticed.
Except that the drumming would have been better?
D Vg, True, but we just would have thought Peter was back to playing better again.
Fair enough, Louis. There was a time when Peter had the fire and the chops.
As long as Anton only played single strokes.
Wonder if he auditioned for KISS when Peter left? I would assume Ace’s Solo Album, Dynasty and Unmasked would have been a pretty solid audition in its self.
No he didn’t. SMFH
The only reason Anton didn't get asked to join kiss is because Paul wanted an unknown. Too bad he missed that opportunity to tour with them.
He was actually in kiss for a day only for gene and Paul changed their minds because he was a great friend with ace and they thought they would fuck up partying all the time
That's so wrong....
It's because Paul and Gene didn't know what kind of makeup a fig wears.
@74 torino have you got ears?
It must be hot inside! Honestly, watching these videos, the interviewers seem to be clones of each other-50s, fat, and have a bad taste in t-shirts!
Kiss convention podcaster/interviewers: PLEASE stop wearing the cargo shorts, white socks and gym shoes in public, ESPECIALLY onstage! Yeesh!
He definitely sounds like the villains from Lethal Weapon 2. Hope he never finds himself standing on plastic!
we all paid to hear gene ace peter paul and thats who we should hear only.to many nodies in and out.
Jeaus, put some pants on!
Really? Thats all your lame azz brain can say? Thats like the brain dead twatwaffles say about Kiss wigs
