Magician reacts to Eric Chien perform close-up magic tricks with playing cards, coins, and sleight of hand on America's Got Talent 2019. Eric Chien performs his amazing Ribbon Act magic tricks that helped him become a FISM winner. This video shows the reaction of a magician so you can see how someone in this field thinks about it! This is season 14 of AGT Americas Got Talent. And this is Eric Chien's audition for AGT. His first time performing magic tricks for this American version of the show. Some of the best magic I’ve ever seen. It also makes you wonder who would win in a competition between Shin Lim and Eric Chien? What do you think??

Hope you enjoyed this reaction video! And Eric's excellent performance!
BELIEVE ME I wanted to make the magician's act full screen, instead of my face... but due to technical reasons, this was simply not possible.

My guess is that his family may have some privileges in Taiwan to keep so he'd better serve the military. About not telling his story at Asia Got Talent, my guess is that he may think the story is not very moving nor even interesting for Asians.
So he is from Huston Texas and served at Taiwan military? That is the real magic if you ask me 😂😂😂
I think he was born in Taiwan and now live in Texas , maybe he got dual citizenship so he needs to come back to Taiwan to serve ..Yes in (Singapore,South Korea,Taiwan) when youre in service you wont be allowed to go out and do what you really like ,you need to stay inside and serve..
Im really so happy that he was given enough time to do his magic unlike in Asias got talent they limit his time so he cut it short..
Shin Lim watched his FISM video and he was amazed by Eric's performance..
Taiwan is a really big political issue in Asia and especially in China. As china considers Taiwan as china and Taiwan doesn't ... The Taiwanese military is too a certian degree chinese, this topic is just made for conflict.
If you want to know all the details just Google it, but it is a very very complex and emotional issue!
Lil Bean I’m not anywhere near as good as Eric Chien. :) but yes I’ve never been to a real casino, so they wouldn’t know me. And I’m sure many magicians are allowed in. It would be so risky to cheat with all those cameras 📷
NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY, THERE IS ALWAYS AN ASIAN WHO TOOK IT TO ANOTHER LEVEL.
His routine is mind-blowing I want him in Penn and Teller show Fool Us
Hey Jason, I have many Taiwanese friends so I can give you a little background on this. Most Taiwanese people living in the US are born in Taiwan and live in the U.S., they have a "dual-citizenship" but when you turn 18 you're legally obligated to perform mandatory military service. It's the same for Koreans. You either give up your taiwanese citizenship or go back to serve
Wow! That's very interesting... thanks for sharing this insight!
I was going to say this but u already did
Yes same in South Korea.
@@JasonParkerMagic I think he only mentioned this fact on AGT because:
1. The producers wanted him to have a sad interesting back story.
2. Going into mandatory military service is not uncommon in Asia. We Asian's wouldn't think much about it. Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand etc. All have military service.
I’ve seen him on you tube, but he’s so good, I don’t care. Still enjoy the performance aspect of Shin Lim more
but I think Chien threw in more tricks and they were amazing.
Not a fair question to ask him, “who’s better?” Eric responded appropriately! Kudos to him!
I believe he'll be ready for that one next time. I so wish he had answered "Well, you Simon, of course" or something like that.
@@plagiats A better response would be - "that is not for me to say but for you to decide"
They both work for the devil, so I would say they are the same
When Julia said that "you don't have to compare yourself to anyone" I think she was referring to Simon's comment about is he better than Shin Lim.
Yes you're probably right. Still... we shouldn't compare Eric Chien to Shin Lim? I know they are very different people and performers... but I think it's a pretty natural thought. Many people comment about comparing them, and then question even occurred to Simon... although it was a little awkward, because Eric Chien is respectful and doesn't want to say anything bad about Shin Lim, and doesn't want to disparage himself either. Yeah.. I mean I guess it can be unhealthy to compare yourself to others too much. But these are both excellent sleight of hand performers.... at a different level than previous competition magicians (I would argue).... and both having risen to fame around the same time.... I think it's somewhat natural to want to compare them.
@@JasonParkerMagic I think it's less that WE shouldn't, but more that Chien really shouldn't worry about it. We, as the laymen, can make whatever comparisons we want (and they will probably be ill-informed at that... present company excluding). But I don't know how much Chien trying to internally make that comparison will help him all that much.
At the end of the day, it's probably a moot point. I suspect Chien is approaching this narrative-driven budding "rivalry" as well as one could.
Just my 2 cents, i think she said that because at the very beginning eric (without anybody asking him) did mention shin lim and said that they were 2 very different people and tht kinda shows the he was in fact feeling a little anxious and simon quickly noticed that he was actually comparing himself to shin and just decided to be as he always is and messed with him . And julianne was just being a sweetheart to eric when she said tht so he would stop feeling anxious about shin
@@shahidahshady5566 agreed. She wants Eric to have more confidence.
@@JasonParkerMagic I agree. There are both different but master sleight of hand. I love both.
The reason he mentioned his military service is because Everyone on AGT has to have a story otherwise the show is "boring" to your typical American, or at least that's what the producers think.
Also in Taiwan, SK, and various other Asian nations conscription is a normal thing, so it would be like saying "and then I went to high school" it's just a thing you do
Simon has been doing the middle finger scratch for years
oh really? I hadn't noticed it before haha
My first time seeing him; hopefully, not my last. What a lovable young man.
Agt audition was filmed in March, which was way before Eric won Asia’s got talent. I don’t understand why people call him a liar when they don’t even know anything.. and he was in military, that’s when he came up with the coin works.
Did he won America's Got Talent?
@@TheRodyBr he is in the current season of agt.
First time seeing it last night on his performance and i was surprised to see him at shin’s level.... both are inspirational 🤯
This should be called the era of magicians where magic becomes real.
"...claim your place amongst the best." 🤣
He won FISM in Close Up last year with this rutine, i think is already amongst the best.
I loved this act. First time I have heard of seen Eric.
His nervousness just made this act much much much much much much BETTER!!
This was the first time I saw Eric perform and it completely blew me away!
Eric Chien is one of the greatest magicians ever
First time I have heard of Eric Chien. Amazing! I hope he can build on this #1 performance. .
This WAS the first time I had seen him perform and I was AMAZED. His routine and tricks were absolutely fabulous and I honestly have no idea how he did most of them......and only a vague idea about some.
HI Jason I saw Eric performance on AGT recently. Amazing ! and I love the fact that you pinpoint the emotional story telling he created which is the proof of his great talent.
12:50 : she said it because, at the beginning, after he said "i'm a magician", Simon asked him if he was better than shin lim, and he seemed to be pretty distubred by this question and did not answer. That's the reason behind her commentary at the end of the show :)
When Simon asked Eric if he bwas better than Shin Lim, I would have said "ask shin Lim"
Nice to see a positive review of a great magician giving him respect for his craft. Keep up the good work
You sir, as a magician, are very humble, full respect to you sir.
thanks for this nice comment :)
He won 2018 world international close up magic.
"Then they must have a celebrity Deathmatch!!!!😈 "Or they could just become best friends 😁" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
they are already friends
@@user-kl5nw9lg6v It just so happens that Chien was sorted into the same house as Shin Lim when and have already learned more than Shin did during his first 2 years at Hogwarts.
In terms of ability, I think Eric and Shin are equal.
But, this act is superb. The fact that there is a story in mime being told that incorporates and makes use of the magic makes it special.
Its as if Eric is a victim of a truly great offstage magician that we never see.
I could see a setup of Eric entering an ancient abandoned Transylvanian castle.
He comes upon the table, and starts manipulating the things he finds there.
The only thing he brings is his one coin.
And then he leaves with nothing.
And, the ancient spirit of the castle wizard laughs as he leaves.
First time see his performance and I researched him. He is genius, his skill and creativity is the best I ever seen.
So hard to be a perfectionist but I think he is. His talent is amazing.
I watched his act multiple times..great guy.
Simply amazing 👏👏👏
My favorite part is definitely the storytelling aspect it really sells it.
ive seen your reaction to him at fism and on asias got talent but ive watched his fism video at least a half dozen time its just amazing. i think that fism performance is the best ive ever seen.
Jason: some of the best commentary here! Nicely done indeed with much appreciation for Eric Chien's creativity.
Hey thanks so much!! :)
I agree with your storytelling points. I appreciate that all of the tricks made sense as they came together to be a cohesive story...not just a bunch of effects that look cool together.
Ive become a fan of eric chien after watching him at Asia's Got Talent, truly MAGICAL!
Go for the win at America's Got Talent Eric Chien!
I’d seen the performance beforehand, but this was the best it looked, you’re right. Eric is amazing & has a real shot to win
One of the best magic I have ever seen 😍😍😍❤❤❤
This is close to what real magic would look like. I have seen this act already and can follow a few steps but many of the parts are just mind blowing...
Haven't heard or eric chein till now. Hes amazing, love his act.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yep the internet is big... all sorts of famous acts, but not everyone happens to see them at the same time
He just won Asian Got Talent and know he's here! Love this guy!
I believe the judge just meant he can ‘hold his own’ and doesn’t need to be compared to other magicians. That act alone proves himself, kind of thing.
Also, it was following Simon asking if he was better than Shin Lim, before the act. So she was answering to that comparison, as he is his own and not just another magician.
Just my interpretation. Great reaction.
Just MIND blowing! I got the first 3 tricks but then I got lost and started enjoying.
I haven't heard of him before the other night when I saw this on youtube...Pretty smooth performance..but I think his shyness at the beginning is an act to get the "awwww" vote...
Just amazes me! HOW does he do that? Very entertaining!!!
This is my favorite magic routine
When u describe the story of the magic I understood it way more than before, loved the vid👌👍
I absolutely loved this act. I think I've seen him perform it somewhere else (I don't remember where though) and I was absolutely blown away. I don't even care how he does it. It was an incredible performance.
what I love as Parker mentioned is his performance, his story telling...great awesome work
Great reaction and review Jason! Thank you!
and thanks for your comment!
First time I’ve seen him perform. Great review by the way. Great commentary.
Awesome! and thanks very much! :)
First saw this performance when it nearly broke the internet lol. Eric is so much fun to watch and his performances are simply brilliant. He doesn't have Shin Lim's hair, but I do hope Eric wins!
i don't think he will win
I loved that he said "In this show you have one continuous shot" my video stops and an ad for Rolls Royce starts playing. I'm like O_o
I saw him on Penn & Teller, and he was amazing. He and Shin Lim have to be the two best card magicians in the world. What I like is that their acts are not that same old corny take a card kind of magic. The music, and theatre elevate this from magic to entertainment.
I’ve seen Eric’s AIsa GT first performance. I thought it was the same guy and I remembered him saying on AsiaGT that he used to teach and be in the background...
this was my first time seeing Eric Chien and I was very impressed! thank you for your reaction :)
He's second to none!
I have never seen him before! It was amazing!
I really enjoyed his act it was easy to comprehend and was very visual
Saw the show 4 times, every-time look amazing
That was the first act of his that I saw. Mindblowing.
Seeing it again, it is still unbelievable. Many of the moves seem conceivable, yet not really doable.
Some appear downright impossible. Yet, there they are.
Awesome.
I thought I would never see an act as superb as Shin Lim.
Eric Chien is just as good.
This act, though, was the absolute best.
i know hes just throwing everything under that table ..but how he does it is so clean lmao
I had discovered Eric Chen while searching for additional videos (can't find any) of Ed Kwon. Thanks for bringing this to an even greater light!
First time I saw Eric perform and loved it!
I have watched the agt performance about 10 times but I had never heard of him before this addition.
I like Eric’s humble, and the Magic was awesome 🤩
Humility* ☺
this act is incredible anyone that cares about the secrets to the tricks and not the actual skill it takes to pull them off so flawlessly is really missing out on the fun
Yeah it really is amazing. Such a great act & performance in many ways
Yeah. Even if you may know some of the secrets, like he says, you can just appreciate the amazing skills
First time seeing him loved it. Some pretty simple tricks and then some very advanced stuff
Eric Chien and Shin Lim should do a magic show together. I would pay to see that.
Shin is amazing but does a lot of the same acts. If Eric can show totally different acts of magic during AGT he will rise above Shin. But together they would be OUT OF THIS WORLD!
I love the story he told. Keep it up.
Together? it does not work that way.
the most underrated performance.. just because he doesn't has sad back time story no golden buzzer for him..
Jazlan Xanger probably because hes asian too. Americans dont like to see asian men win everything
Can't wait for his next routine!
hype for Eric Chien
hells to the yeah!
I feel he will use his coin act for the judge cuts. And the chocolate act for the quater finals...
Yeah that sounds about right! Hopefully he will throw in some new act along the way too though.... we will see... I feel a little bit bad reacting to routines he has already performed before.
Jason Parker at least you can see them properly though, like without the camera cuts and stuff.
I think he needs to come up new tricks in order to get into the semi and the final. Repeating old ones may not make the cut even though they are good because they have seen them before. They are missing the wow factor.
Eric is an A-level magician. Mind-blowing.
React to everything man, we love to watch you.
Thanks very much. I appreciate the support!
This magician is amazing
Perfection. Just perfection.
But saying "you don't know how good you are" to a fism winner....... oh boy...
Love your passion by the way Jason, love the videos, its great stuff, and full of positivity...refreshing.
@Spencer I agree
I hadn't seen the Asia video, but I looked him up after the show and watched it.
Seen before , still mind blowing
I can not say how Great this guy is !!! I have seen this before.. I could watch this over and over without getting bored ...It is amazing to watch every time ! Such a Flawless act... Perfection !!
Such a good video selection to review/react too.. Nice one J.P :D
Cheers ZSR
Today was the first time I've seen this act (though not on your reaction), and it's cool every time.
This is my first time hearing of Eric Chien. As for serving in the military for Asian citizens, I read that Kevin Kwan, the author of the novel Crazy Rick Asians, was a wanted in Singapore for dodging mandatory national service. Therefore he didn't even show up for the premiere of the movie in Singapore in fear of an arrest. Not surprised that Eric has to serve, and good for him that he did.
My favourite part is.... that he didn't get a Golden Buzzer, and after seeing all the Golden buzzer I'm ded lol
He’s every bit as good as Shin. I love them both.
I really like how during your comments at the end your ring goes from your index finger to your middle finger very clever. It must be magic. Love these video's.
At 7:52 I did actually see one of his clean ups because of the camera angle, but ONLY because the camera. That was a pretty amazing performance.
Really magically unbelievable!
His trick is unbelievable , im watching him since his first audition in asias got talent and i got goosebumps. Sorry for my grammar.
I think his "nervousness" was part of the act, so when he "accidentally" pitches the card off the table we think that's why. AGT is always fast and loose with backstories. A teen singer, Benicio Bryant was heralded as being shy before delivering a killer performance, even though he had just placed second in Germany's Voice Kids latest season, a fact never mentioned on AGT.
Awesome channel Jason. Congratulations. Greetings from Chile :)
Hello Rolando and greetings to you as well! Thanks for the nice comment :)
Should have been Golden Buzzer
This performance need to golden buzzer!
Jason, love your attitude and commentary. This routine is the first I've ever seen of Eric Chien and like you I am now a fan. When are you going to be on Americas Got Talent? ;-)
haha I wish! I'm nowhere good enough for that! And thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! :)
Saw him on Pen and Teller, Amazing act.
This time, under a totally bright light and the camera closed up, it is even much much more amazing!! Just like to see the T-rex personally in Jurassic Park for the very first time...
haha great comparison! Yeah I loved it, and it's even better this way :)
Respect for you
It looks like I missed the boat. This was the first time I have seen Eric Chien.
This act was absolutely superb. Yes, the storytelling is great, and his characterisation is great, but his sleight of hand is astonishingly good - he's got cards and coins appearing and disappearing so cleanly that he's really up there with the best.
I love it!!
First time I saw him. Amazing
I'll say what everyone else knows- it was a really beautiful act with an unspoken storyline ❤
That was my first time. Awesome job
I was like hey I have watched this a few times lol. I also watched his previous performances on your channel. Its still a really cool performance that takes a lot of skill and talent. 👊👍
Yeah lol I was thinking oh man... how am I going to react to his same act if he does the ribbon thing again... oh well. I’m at least interested to see how he progresses through AGT :)
