I met fat Joe once at a bowling alley in NJ , I was a kid maybe 8-9 so early 2000’s. When he walked in he ordered everyone chicken tenders that was there prior to all his people coming in. Later on My little sister didn’t like the smoking they were doing so he got us a lane all the way on the end and said he’d cover anything we wanted to eat & all the rounds we played. my dad ordered MADDD STUFF 😂 we was eating bowling alley food for like 5 days 😂

Latifah bought me and my friends sneakers once just because we was the only kids in the store at the time. Me and treach from the same area so growing up he’d always stop by and show illtown love. & shaq sent me to summer camp lol my mom was on a free trial run for the boys and girls club in Newark and bro just randomly showed up. He was asking us what we wanted to be when we got older and I said an astronaut but I wanted to start as a pilot and aeronaut first. while everyone else was saying the generic answers. So he approached my mom and gave them a number to call & the rest was history.
I wish Pun wouldve realized before he died that music awards are just for the business end of the industry, not to show who is really the best in that category. He did so well in the music business as a whole. Most artists cant even make a profit with their music and he was getting the bag every album drop as well as live shows. RIP Pun.
Yeah in hindsight that would be a great thing to put in perspective. However, these awards not only validated artists amongst certain music people outside of the hip-hop community, but clearly open doors for business opportunities as well. If what this video claims was all the way accurate then I can see why Pun felt slighted.

From the outside looking in it definitely sounds like it. Even if it wasn’t aimed at anyone when you release a song with those types of lyrics it opens the door for someone to misinterpret it and think you’re talking about them, especially in the rap game where there is alot of chest puffing and being seen as week could tank your career.

That weight loss program at Duke is interesting. There’s a story of a wrestler from WWF, Yokozuna, who was sent there to lose weight. He was a big dude like Pun, easily pushing 500lbs. The corporate WWF offices would occasionally call to check in with Yoko and he would lie about having lost weight. Eventually his time ended at the program and he was released, possibly cause he wasn’t losing any weight. He actually came out heavier than he did when he went in. I think it was later discovered he was bribing someone affiliated with the program to smuggle in food for him. Unfortunately Yoko died as well sometime around 2000

I think we need to stop making the connection between what people rap about and what they did. The fact Jay Z didn't rap about street shots has zero to do with if he was hustling or not. MC hammer was a g and didn't blow up making gangster music. Slick Rick was a g and wasn't making gangster rap. In the early 90s and late 80s a lot of street guys were making non street music. Gangster rap was a thing but it wasn't like today where that's the default. And if Jay wasn't hustling I feel like we would heard that from Dame by now

Exactly! "Reasonable Doubt" along with other albums from artists like Raekwon and AZ helped usher in the mafioso rap. Fat Joe never originally talked that shit in his early work.
@@OmegaManCodes the early part of Jay-Z rapping differently and smiling and looking corny in the videos of late 80s early 90s. Back then labels wanted cheesy and friendly Rappers like Will Smith. Parent's don't understand was a huge hit and labels wanted their rappers to imitate it. Even Rza did a corny video. It wasn't until NWA came into the season that made gangster rap main stream and rappers started rapping and doing videos reflecting who they were and their environment.... So who knows why Jay-Z did those corny videos and rap songs. When you're coming up back then, you will do anything when you see easy money.

Big props on your documentaries. I like how you put in clips of interviews and songs but just but the meat of the matter and don’t just play a 10 minute interview where most of the points are just repeated over and over. Even when you do include a longer interview it’s relevant to the subject. A lot of other rap doc channels do this and after you get past the filler it’s really just 20% pertinent info. Keep up the good work.
