I have so much respect for you and the work you put in. I can barely keep up with my daily life and caring for a quarter of an acre vegetable garden!
Also coyotes will watch your property for weeks and wait until you leave the homestead to strike so keep that in mind set up trail cams to see if they creeping
A lot of what coyotes eat are also eaten by Screech Owls. Consider installing a Screech Owl nest box. Rodents host ticks and attract pit vipers. They probably provide an excuse for Coyotes to sniff around. Ward them off by having resident Screech Owls thin the mouse and Vole buffet.
Very true, Buck. Coyotes destroyed our flock a few years ago.
Use a 164ft piece of rope. You will take the guess work out of where the fence will meet up.
Throw in a miniature cow in the mix
I love the Katahdin ewes we have! They are such friendly lawn mowers... and compost boosters!! The chickens get along with them too.
I appreciate you bringing up how society is shifting, i.e. government overreach and supply chain breakdowns... stay sovereign, stay curious!
How do you collect sheep compost??
If only I could download half of your knowledge into my brain.
Haha, now I see why people "invented" sheep herding dogs. Lol, looks like you had a blast with them;)
Your videos are always on point and informative. Thank you so much for taking the time to teach others
So much wisdom in all your videos. Thank you! 💖
Very helpful video and right on time. Just what I needed to see to make future plans. Thank you!
YES! So excited for you- thanks for sharing. The details are really helpful and timesavers. I love Greg Judy's channel too. I am hoping to start with 2 feeders in the spring then hopefully get into breeding stock if all goes well.
Dude, I feel your pain on that sheep move.
This is fantastic! You have really helped inspire me to learn more. I'm very excited at the potential of incorporating sheep into my plans for the future. Thank you for sharing!
Was thinking, as I was watching this… for future moves in a system like this, you could get a stack of wooden stakes, and different colors of spray paint. Pound a stake in near every fence corner. This way when you come back to that spot in your cycle the next time, you will know where your corners should be for easier laying out the loose fence, and the brush clearing prep. Each paddock in the cycle, use a different color for the corner stakes as you pound them in, so you don’t mix up your marker stakes when you come back to set up next time.
this was awesome man thank you!
Great video, as always!
Great video!!! Thanks for the teaching
This was beautiful.
This is the first time I've noticed the WEALTH of resources in the description of the video.
I'm very happy to see the book recommendations. My public library will be getting a visit very soon. I'm very grateful to you for sharing knowledge openly.
So excited to learn about your channel & the symbiotic relationship between the animals & soil.I too have aplace in Tn. I’ve been in Az handling my folks estate. Can’t wait to get home
I'm really happy to see that you're using your Shaklee basic H product. I have been using it in my garden for almost 30 years with many benefits to the plants & to the soil. I also have used it for a wormer for my pets. As a prior distributor of the Shaklee products, I have found numerous uses for the product line. Believe it or not I don't even use shaving cream anymore. I just lather up with a little bit of basic h and shave away!
Enjoyed your "moves". Keep up the good work.
awesome stuff.
Hey there! I too am new to sheep but have found that putting the dogs up and using a feed bucket while moving them helps tremendously. 😅
You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned getting Millie more trained, with time my friend!
Excellent video
Thanks for the Greg Judy tip off. What a great channel
It's incredible the info he gives out.
Really good info on raising sheep. I haven't tried LSN but I will now. Yeah, we've had escapee antics, too. Thanks!
You are real and amazing 👏❤
Nice video sharing
Oh no! That was hilarious Millie 🤣
I have the same sheep. I found that they drink much less water when they are eating live fresh food compared to dry hay.
Hey man.. this was awesome. Can you make a detailed video like this about your pigs or do u have a mini course on that for purchase? Thanks! Loving the videos.
Good video 👍
Here in south ga they love raising goat for meat, I have both and I totally agree I love sheep I wanna keep raising sheep goats I don’t know I have them for milk tho but their feed is pretty expensive
Can you share more about where and how you are keeping the ram?
This gentleman is wise. Listen to him.
Fabulous.. 🌷🌷
Consider installing a Screech Owl nest box. Owls eat rodents which host ticks and attract pit vipers.
I'm getting sheep, I only have 2.5 acres but I think I could manage a few.
I am thinking about buying Is Royal white sheep.
dude, the circus music was awesome...!!!
Ah ok, Tennessee I wondered where you were at.
Your eyes lashes are amazing!!!
Lol! I would pay money to get my eyelashes looking like that!
Paint the end of your nets red, it makes it easy to see were they end and begin for moves.
Paint the nets or the posts?
SSHHEEEEEEEP 8D
thanks for the great info!
How are sheep in a tropical rainforest I wonder. Parasite cycles is definitely a thing to look at but I would probably need to give them a barn of some sort as hoof problems may developwith constant wetness.
I must have missed your change of dogs and old sheep crew, will review your videos
That was hilarious 😂, you are doing great 👍 though brotha congrats
My khatadhin ram I pet him actually he is super sweet we have him since 6 months he is 2 yo , I trust him even around my children and he is very smart too
Good to know they can be a breeder and also very friendly thanks!
Thank you for the good work! Please where can I get this type of netting for my sheep and what is the price? I reside in Nigeria please. Thank you.
It took you a long time to figure out your original sheep call. Ha ha. Also, what do you expect to grow back after the sheep come through vs the pigs, etc.?
Awesome video, I’ve been doing the same with my 4 goats for about two months now with good results. I assume you are leaving them in the paddocks at night, but are you providing any shelter aside from the forest canopy during rain events? Currently I am utilizing a central area with a covered, three walled shack when we get rain. It’s just a pain to move them to and fro. Considering building something portable to eliminate the extra steps. What would you recommend?
I've heard goats need a shelter more than sheep. So far both my pigs and sheep no shelter but I always have a thick canopy somewhere in the paddock for them. Come winter if it's a cold rain then I'll probably set something easy up, if lambing I have a barn. We'll see I'm still learning and seeing what works well for others.
This is a really interesting idea! How many acres do you recommend for starting sheep? I'm on just under an acre
If you bring in hay/grain to feed you could raise them in just a pen. But on an acre 2-3, and you'll run out of grass at different times of year. You'd need to create a grazing plan so they stay off of areas for a couple months. Up to 5 if you supplement a lot. These are just educated guesses though I don't have enough experience.
Curious why you didn't just put a fence up to guide them from one area to the other. Seems far simpler.
Are sheep or goats better for Texas?
Anyone have problems with june bug grubs in their raised beds> I recently removed about 300 from one bed where they wiped out my beautiful squash plants. These grubs are huge...my chickens just stood and stared at them in disbelief when I offered them as a treat..
Follow them up with ducks they love eating the parasites.
They can give you wool for clothing milk and meat.
Beware coyotes they run thick out here in the south especially when they get hungry in the winter random gunshots in the evening can help keep them away or a good dog or donkey
Haha, I’ve had those recks many times😂 if you are going to keep sheep for the long term you may want to think about getting a Border Collie, they will bring the sheep to you.😊
How many acres do you graze?
That was great. What do you think about asv in animals water? I see a lot of homesteaders do this...
ACV?
@@michaelpeterson2024 yes lol
It's another great supplement for most animals. Just always look up the concentration that's recommended for each type of animal you give it to.
What's stopping you from milking them? It's it something you are thinking about in the future one your herd is established? Cheers
They aren't the right breed for good milk. I don't want the responsibility of dairy right now. I have friends with a cow and Mennonites nearby.
Wait a minute…when did you move out of San Diego? I haven’t watched in a while. 😔
Over a year :) time flies.
I've heard with with roosters, you can climb on top of them, gently, while pushing them into the ground, to "dominate them" and show
them who's boss... so they won't attack you.
Can't you do something with the male sheep like that?
Definitely not
@@VK-qo1gm LoL, so there's nothing, easy, you can do with male sheep to show "your the boss"???
Well that kinda sucks...
Sheeeep....Sheeeep....Sheeeep
My mothers dad raised sheep, I actually have a blanket made from some of their wool . I can't raise livestock because I live in town. What I've heard from a cattleman is that they don't like sheep because the will eat everything including the grass roots, I assumed that is why there are sheep herders so they can watch them and move them periodically and protect them from predators.I don't know if I have ever had lamb or not, I didn't growing up I know, I did have some gyro meat a neighbor bought from a deli somewhere here in town that was supposed to be lamb and it was really good, it was flavored and mildly/pleasantly spicy. I hope they work well for you Steven. My take on the supply chain fail is that it was all intentional.
About ten years ago, some woke kids were going on about how they were rebels, fighting the power and all that crap. I told them if they really wanted to be rebels, they should start a garden.
I challenge Natures always right to collab with drakes homestead or or and beckys homestead
Would love that!
Hi , no offence , Im muslim and we prefer sheep as much as goat but we use goat meat more than sheep bcoz goat is cheaper than sheep. its only price issue.
Sheep makes the best cheese in the world
I love your videos dude!
But did you know goat meat is the most eaten meat in the world , as is goat milk!
Sounds strange if your European or American but it's true
Yes I have learned that recently, it blew my mind. Makes sense though when I think about the landscape and infrastructure of a lot of the world. You need a big facility and cooling/freezers to deal with and store cattle. Realizing their size and lack of needing much infrastructure is one of the epiphanies I had about why sheep and goats really are the ultimate homestead animals and that's why they are the most utilized animals in the world.
Try growing your own grain
Yea, what I noticed, is 'their' way of doing things is useless, totally monetarily materialistically oriented without any thought as to how their actions affect Humans, animals, plants and the planet. So they were ramping up the volume of their genetically modified 'foods' so that you are left with almost no nutritional value, which means your body is starving, and you continue to eat, but generally, you're going to turn to sugary and greasy foods to try to get a fulfilled feeling, which never comes.
But when you grow your own foods, without their chemical poisons, you find that the food is packed with nutrients. And therefore you need less of a product. And when you eat it, you feel satisfied, you feel good, your body is healthy, so you don't need to eat and eat eat eat eat more and more because, you get everything in that small value packed nutrient rich food you cared for and grown yourself.
Rabbits are a great addition as well
Where are your Chicken
I have them, just haven't shown them yet.
Goat is delicious
Isn't the forest full of parasites? Why not keep them on the pastures? I'm just thinking about all the ticks they'll get from the forest floor.
Are you sure you want to let them eat the forest? Since they eat all the shrubbery. I thought you wanted to cure the forest.
I don't want all of the brambles, seedlings to grow. I'm selecting which ones I want to grow they help me do that.
You mentioned Muslim communities, would you consider halal slaughter in order to sell to Muslim communities?
