    In this video I unbox my new compact drone which takes off from water & films high quality 4K HD video in the air & even underwater! The SwellPro Spry floats, is waterproof, has the 1st ever waterproof drone controller remote, and comes in at a budget friendly price against the competition. Then again are drones like the DJI Mavic actually a competitor when they aren't waterproof like the Spry? I'm tired of spending a lot on drones only to have them sink into the deep. The SwellPro Spry is something I had my eyes on for a long time. They already had a successful larger waterproof drone called the Splash series which could drop fishing baits up to 2.5lbs! However, the SwellPro Splash wouldn't fit in my kayaks as easily. Then few months ago they opened up a kickstarter campaign for the smaller Spry and I was one of the first to back the compact waterproof filming drone. I can store this in my kayak hatch and film all my adventures.
    Hope you enjoy this video and found it useful. I will do further videos showing these being used...but first I need to read the manuals and get more familiar with the product.

      Blake Hurst I’m impressed by the quality. Due to having the new baby at home I can’t yet get out and get my own independent test footage for these very well. I will do further videos pretty soon on it. After seeing the product I would have paid several hundred more for it. I paid around $760 on Kickstarter. I’m glad I have it because I’m upcoming months I have several new pedal kayaks to film as well as some other unique crafts. This will give a cool perspective.

      Footage will not likely be as good as a Mavic 2, but I do believe Spry will be highly useable 4K footage and offer peace of mind flying over water. I will be doing some tests this week and will upload some unedited test footage. It does have EIS, but that preview footage was with early prototypes which also likely had polycarbonate lens and the new ones are glass. I think the old prototype polycarbonate lens were blamed for jello effect...the new glass lens I believe is reported to be much better. The glass lens covers are replaceable and affordable.
      Stay tuned to the channel. I will get viewers unedited 4K footage directly from the drone so you can make an informed decision. For me it seems like it will meet my needs. I’m tired of stressing out over non-waterproof drones when 90-100% of what I do is on the water.

    Better with a mini 2 for travel & filming .. Swellpro suffered with fact footage is unstable due to the fact of having no gimbal .. A great concept fun drone .. Higher end Swellpro are on a gimbal but are huge ..

      Michael Staab sounds good. We need to do more exploring with this thing. I was shocked at video quality. Even the FPV footage on the phone controller setup looked amazing. The recordings likely look better yet!

    What made you choose this drone instead of similar drones of good quality, Price, floats, 4k, other?

    • @KayakDIY
      @KayakDIY  5 років тому +1

      I got tired of sacrificing nice pricey drones to Poseidon. 😂
      Had nice drone that had GoPro mounted and it had a prop failure then sank to the bottom.
      This drone takes very clean looking 4K footage which is more than usable for UA-cam and it floats and takes off from water...it is perfect for me. The compact size means I can stow it inside my kayak hatches and take on trips.

      Also, the DJI spark and mavic I know have third part float attachments but I have seen several people complain of the floats falling off. Only takes one wave. Do you really want to trust flimsy floats on a several hundred dollar item? I don't. That is why I bought the Spry. It loves the water and films decent 4k footage that is totally usable for youtube and semi-pro use. Not quite Mavic video quality likely, but then again slightly less money and worry free in water environment. My friend lost a Mavic this past year. That isn't going to be me. I lost enough money in the water including my last several hundred dollar drone and gopro.

    HOW MUCH WEIGHT CAN IT TAKE..?

    • @KayakDIY
      @KayakDIY  5 років тому

      MR GUPPY 101 not sure on the Spry. They hadn’t widely publicized that number. I know earlier it was reported to be 0.11 pounds or 50grams of carrying capacity. However, that was early in the prototype phase. Might be more now. I don’t know with certainty at this time. Check out link in video description as they might have updated info to their site. This is a very small drone unlike the big brother which is the Splash 3. The Spry is close to the size of a Mavic Air. The Splash 3 by SwellPro is huge but holds 2.5lbs and can drop bait fish for fishing.

    *Excited for this product, but I can’t recommend it. READ👉* Don’t Buy The Spry. It became progressively unreliable. It required constant recalibration which was annoying. The camera fogging got annoying for quality filming. It was fun to fly for sport, but not for filming.

    Enjoy it while you can the laws are going to change for private use of drones , and the drone business is about to tank big time because of that ....oh well it was fun while it lasted

    • @KayakDIY
      @KayakDIY  5 років тому +1

      USCG going to police us? They can’t even get to boaters in distress for sometimes hours. I think they have bigger things to worry about. This drone will be used 90% of the time in water environments. Just a thought for some folks. Also as another viewer said it will come down to drone size. Amazon (worth $800b to 1trillion) and drone companies like DJI (worth $10 billion+) have a lot of money to lobby for laws in their favor....faa actually has talked of relaxing drone laws because of the big players. I’m not worried. 😉
