It's also great characterization for luffy because in the manga, he never uses thought bubbles. He never keeps any thoughts to himself, anything that's on his mind he says out loud.

Katakuri is the only person Luffy ever acknowledged in a fight. When he says his name you know Luffy truly sees this man and respects his abilities
Yeh, the action is fun, all be it elongated because it’s an anime but why are any of them surprised that Luffy can take all the hits. They react as though there is any chance he might die which is obviously never going to happen. Luffy could have fought him with his normal form and basic armament haki and still beat him.
Doesn’t fajita or whatever the gravity navy guy name is also respected by luffy

If they made the pacing of the anime faster while keeping this level of animation one piece would be on a whole new level. Sadly that would be expensive and breaks/fillers would be more frequent if they did that.

1. Shounen animes like One Piece are made for japanese boys to watch we are not the main audience and by we i mean everyone outside japan. Why does that matter? Because they're the main consumer and unless those japanese boys riot against toei to make it better it likely wouldn't happen.
2. seasonal animes also fall off in popularity. Which makes things unstable unlike weekly animes who are very stable.
3. Profit. One Piece is still a product and products need profit and since weekly animes are more stable they bring in more profit. Also toei hires amateur animators to make production cheaper, i'm not sure if they're doing it today.
4. Some arcs also doesn't translate well into seasonal format. Most long seasonal animes are 24 episodes. Dressrosa arc was if im not mistaken 100 chapters, in the anime it had 50 episodes which means the episode to chapter ratio is 1:2 which is typically the ratio of seasonal anines. Though considering how popular one piece is in japan it is very likely that some networks will entertain the inconsistent episode numbers of one piece if toei knows how to use leverage.

1. Look at what's happening in the Western pop media culture, for years, shows were dumbed down, made more colorful, all geek culture material was being very much targeted at younger audiences. However their products fell not only in quality, but also in revenue, as kids nowadays don't have long enough attention spans to enjoy long movies or TV shows, they get dumbed down and dumbed down by cellphones who manipulate their brains to profit out of them. Kids don't care about stories that are even just averagely complex.
So where are they aiming now? 80's, 90's, early 00's kids, taking advantage of nostalgia and also a golden age of era that were the eras of our childhoods, are bringing shows back, actors back. Look at what Disney is doing with Star Wars, Obi Wan Kenobi show, Spiderman 3 will have Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield back. They know that, at least in the Western, the consumers are age 18-30. And by getting this consumers watching and talking about their shows, kids will follow, as they imitate the behaviors of older brothers or cousins.
2- This is One Piece, at this point, it won't fall in popularity, plus, while the anime was on pause, they could release quality OVA's and a movie every 2 years. Also the Manga goes on, people still talk about One Piece. And hey, after the Manga gets time to gain space from the anime, make the anime weekly again.
3 - Make it seasonal and you can invest money in a more compact way focusing on creating a quality-driven product. You won't need animators all year long. Also they have money to make it elite animation till the end, they are just money hungry vampires, animation business is slavery unfortunately.
4- Watching the anime weekly is almost unbearable, I've stopped for a year so I can binge watch Reverie and Wano, and I was watching weekly for like 8 years now. Pacing has gotten unbearable, animation stale, lazy, and inconsistent, and the overuse of repeated animations and reaction shots, to pass time, makes watching it weekly very frustrating at times.
Dressrosa could've very well been 30-34 episodes long if you remove all this.
I'm not salty at your comment, I think it's interesting to discuss this things.
I would give making it seasonal a try for sure, see how it goes.

Jesus bro' Katakuri adjusts so fuckin fast! He armored his cheek to block the 1st one without knowing what was going on. Parried the 2nd one immediately after only seeing it once before previously, and figured it out on the 3rd. These 2 are fuckin monsters. Give Luffy credit for pressuring someone who was more experienced, had stronger armament and observation, and was clearly faster and stronger. Luffy's endurance and growth rate is on some Naruto in the final war shit. Would love to see this rematch as Luffy is now. Even in terms of everything, except for Katakuri's awakening, and Luffy's Ryuo. Would be a great fight.
I'm glad someone's pointing out katakuri's fight adaptation, cause he adapted to snake-man way too fast and his observation helped big time with that.
@@fidelomil8242 I don't even think he adapted, I think based on his character he was testing Luffy all throughout. Some what the Kenpachi of the Big Mom Pirates. He fought on Luffy's level throughout the growth process we know this because even snakeman wasn't faster than Katakuri, but Luffy was able to land after he grasped the basics of mastered CoO in base form and gear 2nd in the fight before the climax. Katakuri was way above Luffy, we know he could of ended the fight from the very beginning. He fought down to his level. Even at the end, he only fell to exhaustion after witnessing Luffy fall. Luffy got up 1st, and he was there waiting for him. My theory is that Luffy's Conquerors haki is what makes ppl follow him. He's probably awakened it as every form of Haki has a mastered state. That's why they fear the will of D "God's natural enemy" Kings' haki must be able to make ppl bend to your will if you have a strong enough will, and its awakened.

I have no clue about the financing of animes but i assume that they have a certain budget at their disposal, which is probably tight especially for ongoing weekly animes. So they have to think about what should be animated in greater detail and what not.

One of the best one piece battles ever. I love how this battle makes you think with Luffy what he needs to do in the situation. So many creative moves and show of devil fruit control and the growth of learning future haki mid battle is just awesome.
This is the kind of hype Goku should have had but sadly due to how constant it was with his new forms it just lost its touch. Luffy though, you can tell he works hard for these new forms.
Also, they don't every provide anything new to his fighting style. They're all just cheap ways to instantly make him strong enough to fight someone who was too strong before.
All the jokes aside tho, the animation there is actually 10/10

I still come back here now on 2022. Still one of the best fight in one piece. The animation was so good, not having a flashy over animation but has many actions and framings with the music and voice acting and the balance of the fight. So good, so good!
