awesome. thanks for posting. this is kind of rare footage. ive taken the cardinal to chicago and to DC a few times out of cincinnati and since it usually leaves at like 2-3am you dont get to see anything around cincinnati in the daylight. usually too dark to get a good look at anything.

If there was one more east/west Cardinal added at an earlier time during the day, you might get a daytime view. As you said you the ride through in the dark of night. I recall when we would visit our Gran, there was an earlier arrival and departure that the B&O had that went from Baltimore to St Louis stopping in the Queen City around 6 or 7pm.

Cardinal must have been very late because departure now is early morning in the dark..one train East and West.

Always liked how the train creeps around as it enters and departs Cincinnati at about 5-10 mph, even from the days of steam engines...Oops I’ve dated myself.

Is it normal to be so late? I saw another video where it was 2 hours late.

Unfortunately Amtrak trains are subject to the whims of freight train traffic holding up their trains, so yes delays of 2 to 3 hours aren't uncommon for other Amtrak long distance train routes. When I rode Amtrak last May from Pittsburgh to Chicago, the train was 21/2 hours late arriving into Pittsburgh. FYI, you can sign up for text message or email alerts(I opted for text messages) from Amtrak at the time you buy your Amtrak ticket online, which will alert you if the train you're riding is running late. BTW, this'll give you an idea of typical Amtrak delays for the Cardinal, out of Cincinnati going eastbound(this is 1 year of data from 2018 to 2019, you can look up delays further back in history if you want to): juckins.net/amtrak_status/archive/html/historychart.php?train_num=50&station=cin&date_start=01%2F01%2F2018&date_end=01%2F23%2F2019&sort=d_dp&chartsize=2&smooth=0

I last rode Amtrak in January 2019 before the big northeast winter storm. We were an hr late because someone got so violent on Amtrak and was kicked off in waterloo, indiana because the Amtrak people had to find his luggage in check baggage car so he be can on his way and the weather was 18 degrees outside and had no shoes on.
