There's a tonne of channels that just feature the 'pros' of gear and barely mention downsides, set backs or workflow issues. I really appreciate criticisms of gear, and I imagine criticisms of gear is what keeps inspiring innovation and improvements from audio tech manufacturers. I like to know exactly what sucks about an audio device before spending my money on it. I'd rather be surprised by the good things, and be fully informed on the tragedies of gear before I start to use it. So, thanks for the whinge 🤗
I run USB out into Logic. If you use the USB switch you can get the return from the DAW on the Model 24, I also use SuperRack Performer live to run plugins live with the Model 24. When using Logic tho, I go into the Tascam, each channel out of the Tascam into Logic, do my processing in Logic, the set the output of Logic to the same input that I used to go in. That way I'm able to mix with plugins but still use the Tascam to run the session (minus the faders of course). Great video man! I agree with a lot of it. The Model 24 is a great mixer. I really wish I would have waited and got the Model 2400 because that thing is a BEAST lol but I've used many hybrid mixers and the Model 24 is the best I've come across, for my needs anyway. I love that I can get each individual track in/out so quickly and seamlessly! P.S. - It's called SMPTE lock haha! Also, the CCR and NAB buttons on the ATR - 102 change between 2 different EQ profiles. CCR was the European standard and the NAB was the American standard. CCR tends to be more on the dark side where NAB is a bit brighter and mid forward. 🙂
I like that ATR-102 for sure! VERY nice for an effect but to explain some of that stuff, especially CCIR: CCIR (also known as IEC1) is the EQ pre-emphasis made famous on British records and is considered the technically superior EQ; many say this EQ was part of the “British sound” during tape’s heyday. NAB (also known as IEC2) was the American standard with its own sound. AES is truly standardized at 30 IPS and is the sole EQ found on the Ampex ATR-102 at 30 IPS. I was stumped on that too, but if you go up to the top right hand corner in the plugin, hit the three dots, look for documentation, it'll lead you to their website where you can see the entire manual they have dedicated to almost all their gear. 😎
"Akshually you should have checked with every single UA-cam user to qualify for having the audacity to want to share things that are interesting to you on the internet" The critic risks nothing and offers little - usually, most of the time. Anyways, I picked up a Klark Teknik 1176 rack on sale for 149.00 yesterday. I love gear.
Back in the day I also used to record through a 4 track Tascam recorder and tape. I guess, coming from the old school made me purchase the Tascam 24 since I was fed up with computer memory overload crap. Now, I also have a kind of hybrid recording process, but it is a little different, instead of taking the tracks to the DAW I leave them in the Tascam where I do the mixing. I only use the DAW for virtual instruments and track via PC in the Tascam. Then, I have tracks that were processed in the box and some others that I recorded live. The Model24 preamps are not the best, but they are acceptable. Any way my point is, why mix in the box when you have the Tascam? if you are mixing in the box , isn't it better to track with an interface?
Hey Milton - I'm constantly caught between 2 worlds. I want to go down both paths where I spent money, and I therefore get caught in a tail spin and get little done. I HATE sitting in front of the computer. I also don't like just recording into a multitracker and not using all the plugins I paid for. So I have the best and worst of both worlds. I hope I'm coming to my senses and starting to make better decisions - but thanks for watching the real struggle in the meantime.
They are charging double the price for the new one, 2k. For a compressor limiter…probably a slightly better version of whats in my old Tascam 2488 neo.
Yeah its... not really worth the price hike. Having said that - I'm having an existential recording crisis in that - if I don't FINALLY decide what I'm recording into - I am never going to release another piece of music. I've been hoping between boards and DAWs for 6 years now.... so despite the price gouge... if I can get a 2400 - I will.
What do you think about the new Model 2400? Right now, I am switching my GAS towards RME fireface UCX II. It has a myriad of routing options, DSP based effects (basic but important ones: compression, EQ, reverb, delay), zero monitoring latency, even you can track directly into a pendrive without your computer! I was thinking even to use it as a digital mixer for my live performances, considering the no perceivable latency. Right now I have to think that I am travelling for work, with no fixed place to live. So Tascam became less atractive for me for that reasons.
Sorry I've not answered this yet - I just.... don't have all the info yet to make an informed answer. I'll do a video eventually. Put it this way - if I want it I'll buy it, but I dont yet see the justification for that much $$$.
I agree for me it’s better push’s you to look ways to get things done, and if you’re a true musician like can both play instrument which is piano for me and I singing since I was 12 learned I was ok and by 24 - now 46 muscle memory has stayed with me so I think Not using a DAw bad love to learn, sometimes is better maybe for editing something DAw I’d consider to teach me but I find it pushes the edge and makes you learn things that you would otherwise never learn other people maybe not everybody but I think they use it to cheat not everybody I’m just saying younger people might so yes I totally agree with you and I love learn someday cpus aren’t my thing! What I hate the most is these things are worth as much as people think just like laptops have gotten cheaper plasma screens have gotten cheaper these things are way overpriced and they should be a lot less that’s something I don’t like…
I thought you sold your Model 24 again. I love trolls, my Model 2400 video is getting a lot of views and it has brought out the trolls as well because I'm a snob when it comes to not using a DAW. They should make that app for the Model 24 / 16 that they made for the Model 2400.
I can't imagine any other reason they would come to my channel looking to impress anyone. It's all dudes on my channel. So when they're like.... 'Huh huh .... huh huh..... Hey Beavis.... check this out..... .... huh huh.....' - it impresses nobody, what who are they actually showing off for?
That setting sounds like running the tape really fast. it eats up a LOT of tape and back then 2" tape was expensive ,yet from what I understand the sound is pristine..You can check and it might be mentioned in Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Manual.....Just keep talking about gear and 'whining' please..
Yeah I take it to various degrees. Sometimes you can ID a troll and sometimes you just can't. I still use hash tags of past trolls ... so if anyone happens to be searching for them, my videos will hopefully come up as well. I also keep a revenge list, lol. Out of sight of mind... I'm happy to wait for the perfect troll revenge even if it's a decade.
Let me make it easy for them... If you do not like it, watch something else or make your own content, you stoopid, lazy, fake critics.. If you do not like his credentials, do it yourself with YOUR credentials.. I like someone who USES his gear, not just endorses companies..
That's the thing! UA-cam is getting some 100% unbiased product opinion here. They can go watch 1000 other paid for reviewers if they want.... why not get some useage footage out of a guy not getting paid - using this stuff in the most natural environment?

Glad you got something out of this! Thanks for your comment and don't be a stranger!
Bro, You got a like just for that intro 😂
I think your process is very professional. the 2 steps help to focus on the mixing process on screen

Awesome Vid Bro i Totally Love That Tascam Model 24 in the Hybrid Domain👍👍
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the vid.
Hey - appreciate the comment! I'll check your channel out in detail soon - looks like you have a ton of good vids!
Interesting video dude. I'm curently using Tascam DP-24SD and getting very decent results.
Got anything I can hear?
@@QuestForGear Yeah. But only short test tracks in .wav format. I don't have a pc. .. but I've got them on my phone.

A great way to put it. Yeah the tolls are strange for sure. Nobody cool or skilled drops by to troll - it's losers 100% of the time.

I do mix everything on the boards, I don't use DAWs at all. That's where people are having issues with my opinions.
I wish I never bought these plugs in - I would be Dawless. So strange that that upsets people.
