- Making your own water kefir at home is an easy and inexpensive way to incorporate probiotics into your daily life. Water kefir grains make a delicious fruit "soda" which is full of probiotics and health benefits!

I've heard to avoid using canning jars for carbonating. Since they're built to withstand negative pressure, not positive pressure, the have an increased likelihood of exploding. That, and avoid containers that have a square shape, as that can create weak points, increasing the risk of exploding.
I’m doing pineapple and Pomegranate kefir soda it’s delicious
That sounds amazing!
Hi beautiful you are looking gorgeous awesome work 💞❤❤💜💜💞❤💜👍👏👏
I made a blueberry basil that I loved and a raspberry mint. I tried watermelon and it was too sweet. I added the watermelon juice too so maybe next time I won’t do that. I have a batch of peach chamomile in one and blueberry lavender. They should be ready tomorrow and I’m excited to try those.
How much can you drink a day?
This was awesome to watch. Great way to get more healthy bacteria into your diet!
Healthy bacteria is so important! Thank you for watching!
I used to make water kefir 5 years ago, and at first I wasn't a fan of the taste, but after a couple of days, I began to look fir ward to my glass of kefir. great video, you've just convinced me to start up again :)
I always find the flavor of kefir improves as the grains “wake up.” Whenever I start a new batch, the first few batches don’t have really developed flavor yet, but after a couple weeks it tastes great and refreshing!
@@HomesteadOnAPrayer that makes sense
Good morning Jennifer! Just watched this whole video because I literally have been meaning to look this up. Earlier this year my sister-in-law sent my husband home from Montana with a jar of ready to go kefir grains. He did not remember what they were so they had just been sitting in our fridge all year since about may. I would love to try this! Do you think that they have been dormant for too long or do you think this will work?
Your finished product looked so delicious I'm super excited to try this!
I would say it’s definitely worth a try! I’ve let mine rest in the fridge for a couple weeks before, and it takes it a little while to wake up, so I’d definitely give it a little while to perk back up. I’m not sure how long it can go, but the fridge will keep it good for a while. I’m curious to see how it does for you!
@@AHomesteadingHustle it’s so good and refreshing!
I forgot to mention I have kombucha in the back room. I hope I like that as well lol
Too much alcohol is In it . Every time I drunk it , I feel the alcoholic effects on me . What am I doing wrong ?
The taste is great ! I follow all the steps but I don’t want the alcohol .
You could definitely try a few things to lower the alcohol content. I’m not an expert, but the first thing I would try is letting it ferment for a shorter period. You could also try keeping it at a cooler temperature, or depending on how many kefir grains you have in the jar, you could try removing some of those too. I would also look into the type of fruit you’re using to flavor it - some fruits are naturally more prone to producing alcohol than others, so you could try using different fruits to see if that makes a difference. If none of those seem to work, I would drink smaller amounts of the kefir - you can still get the benefits of the probiotics with a very small amount of kefir at a time. I hope you’re able to find a solution that works for you!
I’ve made water kefir, milk kefir and kombucha. All are very easy to make. I don’t care for the milk kefir. I know many believe that the milk kefir is the best but I just can’t handle the taste. To me, kombucha is the best but I do like the water kefir too. I too, put my water kefir in the fridge and got busy with life and forgot about them and they died of starvation. I’m starting a new batch today. Thanks for a great video. Remember to remind people to start slow when starting out as too much at once can cause stomach issues.
I don’t really care for milk kefir myself. I really like both water kefir and kombucha, but I’ve never tried making kombucha at home. I’m glad to hear it’s easy!
And yes, it’s definitely best to start slow, especially when someone hasn’t been taking probiotics regularly - there can certainly be an adjustment period!
awesome video. i would recommend try with a thin glass bottle. ive found then it creates alot of bubbles and carbonation. great stuff! have u seen any benefits from it?
I bet a thinner bottle would increase the carbonation - I haven’t tried that, but I may in the future. I do feel like I have less of an issue with seasonal allergies since I started making kefir. We made several changes towards a healthier lifestyle around the same time we started kefir, so it’s hard to know exactly what causes the benefits, but we have noticed that we don’t get sick as often, and when we do it’s usually less severe. It’s basically a nice dose of probiotics, so the benefits are similar.
Ka- fear
Thank you! I knew I was saying it wrong!
No worries, I lived in Middle East.
Yes, it is kuh-feer.Only in the US people call it the way she does.
host nice we enjoyed
Thank you for watching!
That sounds so cool. Thanks for sharing this video. You always have great information on new products and things that you use on a regular basis. Have a wonderful day!!!
Thank you! I hope you have a wonderful day too!
Pour into garden..good for plants
I’m sure the probiotics would be great for the plants! I have added kefir grains to my compost in the past when I’ve had too many. The kefir itself can be acidic, so if you’re adding it directly to plants, I might dilute with water, unless of course you’re feeding acid loving plants.
very good recipe about probiotic drink
good for health
Thank you!
Hi! I have watched videos that tell you that you can freeze your Kafir grains… And you can! I tried it and they come back absolutely beautifully. I wanted to take a long break and was working on other ferments. You have to be very nice to them to get them re-acclimated. They came back beautiful until I decimated them using coconut water, but that’s another story! When you take them out of the freezer, I put them in a small dish and place them in the refrigerator. Allow them to defrost slowly overtime. I did soak them in plain water to release some of the elements as they were pretty dark. I used molasses but it worked beautifully and I was able to pick right back up again
Blueberry & vanilla
AND “Florida Sun Kefir” ships live grains. I ordered mine from them and they were plump and very large.
That’s good to know! I’ve never thought of freezing them, but I would be a good idea for me to keep spare grains in my freezer. Thank for the tip!
I just made a mistake this evening and added juice to my freshly fed grains 🤦🏻♀️ I quickly put them through the strainer again and poured some fresh water over them to try and rinse… I then realized I was out of clean water to put them in 😩 so I had to put them back into my first ferment water again. I added a tiny pinch of Celtic salt for the minerals.
Will the grains be okay? Should I switch them into fresh sugar water when I’m able to pick some up tomorrow?
That sounds so frustrating! I’ve never actually experienced that so I can’t say for sure, but I’m guessing that your grains will be fine. You rinsed them off right away which is what I would have done also. I would switch them to the fresh sugar water as soon as you can, and they’ll probably be just fine. Feel free to update us on how they turn out if you’d like to!
Jennifer I was wondering… what is Kefir water 🤣 so interesting! I wonder if I would like it. It sounds interesting to make a lightly carbonated drink at home and is flavored with fruit. Thanks for sharing this. Maybe I’ll give it a try and see if we like it.
It does taste really good, and it makes a positive difference in our health too!
I just started making water kefir a few weeks ago. My favorite flavors are raspberry (frozen) with lemon and cherry (juice) with lime. Interesting that I get more carbonation with the cherry juice.
Those both sound delicious! Raspberry is one of my favorites too!
I like to flavor my kombucha with grated lemon rind and juice along with grated ginger. I also like oolong tea kombucha with apple and spearmint. Orange, peach, mango juice is also good.
Those flavors all sound amazing!
I like using cranberry juice. It takes some of the tartness out, but the bubbles really make it good!
Cranberry is delicious in kefir!
Great video, looking forward to making my first batch after watching, cheers from Merseyside Uk, new sub
Thank you for watching! You will love making kefir!
Hi, great information. I’ve just started my first batch. Should it be cloudy?
I hope that your kefir does well! Mine tends to start out clear and get cloudier as it ferments, but I imagine that it could vary slightly depending on the size of the grains you’re using and the type of sugar.
Thank you for sharing the episode. I have just started learning about this product and I am interested in trying it. Very much appreciate it. Have a good day.
We really love our water kefir! I hope you give it a try!
I got starter grains and they looked like sand. I followed the instructions and made several batches but the grains still look sand. Will they get bigger?
They might, but there are so many factors that can affect them. Mine have looked lots of different ways at different times, so as long as they are working well I don’t personally worry about it. I’ve had some batches that multiply so much I can’t keep up with them, and others that stay pretty much the same even though I treat them the same way. You may find lots of other people with different opinions though!
Вы умничка👍👍👍👍😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋👌👌👌👌
Can you add dehydrated fruit. Any one have any experience with this.
I have never tried that, but I’d say it’s worth a try! If you do try it, I’m curious to hear how it works. You could possibly try rehydrating the fruit in some fruit juice and then adding the whole mixture.
Water kefir is faster to make then kombucha.
I’ve never tried making kombucha, but from reading about how to do it, water kefir sounds easier too!
Raspberry lime is my favorite so far!
That’s one of our favorites too!
I like strawberry rosemary!
That sounds delicious!
I am currently making kombucha, but seriously thinking of switching to water kefir. My favorite flavors so far are blueberry ginger & pineapple cherry.
From watching videos & reading, it seems that water kefir would be easier to make compared to what I do for kombucha.
I have never tried making kombucha, so I can’t give a true comparison, but making water kefir is definitely pretty easy once you get in the swing of it! Those flavors sound delicious too!
Can we use milk cafer in water cafer
I believe that water kefir and milk kefir have different strains of bacteria. I think that some people do convert their grains from milk to water, but I’ve never done it myself. If you decide to try it I’d be curious to hear how it goes!
I literally just ordered milk kefir right before I came on UA-cam and saw you were making water kefir. Now I’m wondering if I should have gotten the water. The one I ordered is said to be alive and active. This is my first time doing it. I hope I like it lol
Milk kefir is good too! I haven’t made it before, but it’s more like yogurt, while the water kefir is like a lightly sweet fruit soda. Either one is definitely beneficial for health!
@@HomesteadOnAPrayer thank you ❤️
Bahut sundar
I'm going to have to try this
We really enjoy it - I hope you give it a try!
Ginger is great
Absolutely!
I'm new to making kefir water, I used the same brand of kefir grain, but mine never pulped up that much
I have found that there is a big variation in batches. I’ve killed my kefir grains more than once, and when I get a new batch they sometimes look slightly different. It’s been my experience that they all seem to work really well though, even if they are plumper or smaller than previous batches.
I can' t follow her.She talk to fast and doesnt articulate clearly.
