The length of cable you spool out also affects the power of the pull. All electric winches are rated based on only one full wrap left on the drum. The less line you reel out, the less power you’ll get. For a maximum power pull, unwind enough cable to leave only one layer on the drum. If your anchor point is too close to spool out enough rope, double the line with a snatch block.

I have one I've had for at least 5, maybe 6 years. I have it on the second Ram Cummins. If you ask anyone that knows me they will tell you this winch should have given up years ago. I do offroad recoveries and I work it hard. Last week I did 5 recoveries including myself 2 times and my truck is 8200 pounds. If it dies today I have no complaints.
i just bought one to replace my 16K lbs winch i had for about 7 years. also on a cummins. i got it for 280 on black friday. this also has 30 feet less cable than my last one. but it was cheap and available so...

While I don't have the badlands winch I have had a 10k harbor frieght on my car trailer for more then a decade and it has been used and abused and still does a fine job

I work for a bull Rigging crew and we have two of these biggest accomplishment with these winches is that we use both of them and two part of them to pull 100,000 pound chiller into place.
Shoot say that again cause with two anchor points and snatch plates that should only have a max of 50k I am looking to move a small cabin or a heavy heavy shed I think with 1 12k and a snatch plate would cut it the weight in half on the back of a ford expedition with the receiver mount think it will work?
@@Chad-ww9gw hard to tell because we both went to the concrete and we bolt the secondary anchor point next to the wench and then we add the snatch block and a chiller was sitting on a 10,000-pound rated skates which comes up to 80 lb underweight on our equipment but it worked multiple times but as for moving let's say a shed on unknown terrain with a vehicle with unknown terrain. If you use a snatch block going back to vehicle i feel like It would rip the bumper out.

Wow great info. I wonder if the duty cycle changes with ambient temp? If it's cold outside will it have a better duty cycle?
You could check the temp of the winch with an infra red thermometer. ($25 at HF) Check and compare at different ambient temps
It’s a good idea to take it apart completely, remove all the Chinese (worthless) grease and replace with high quality synthetic grease.

On the bumper
Look at pictures of after market bumpers and you will see the spot to mount it. Only a few oem bumpers can be used, and that is if you reinforce it with a mounting plate.
You don't have to use the rollers you just have to be aware of your cable isn't rubbing on anything.🤠🌅. I just bought and mounted this winch to my custom tube bumper on my 🐏. I chose not to put the rollers as of now.

I use my winch for skidding logs as well as vehicle recovery. If someone wants to pull continuously, the winch must be a hydraulic winch like milemarker.

I have one of these winchs and it had a hard time pulling a 6000 lbs dozer on my trailer. It came without a fair lead mount. I will never buy another Bad Land winch.
Sounds like a bad one I pulled a truck with stuck wheels and it did fine
It's a 12 k winch on first layer watch the video. Common sense people... Pulling a dozer smh use a snatch block and save the winch. You probably just pulled it for ten min and fried your shit. Operating error I would say
What kind of dozer weighs 6000lbs? Skid steer weight more than that.

@@terryfrye4552 I've got a Warn 15,000 pound winch that's about 12 years old. I run it for 5 minutes on a hard pull and it's barely even warm. I'm sorry you can't afford a decent winch. You can keep buying that junk every year.
@@theadventuresofchris1409 I listened to a buddy talk about how his warn would pull out the truck stuck in a pasture for a week before the boss told him to go get it out then. He hooked up and got the slack out and burned the motor up in a few seconds. Funniest shit I ever saw.
Project farm just demonstrated that Harbor Freight Winches are trash compared to the rest.
