In this documentary, we follow Justin, a young design student, as he travels to LEGO headquarters in Denmark in pursuit of one of the most hotly contested jobs in the world - a LEGO set designer. If I were an industrial designer, I’d go there too. Denmark+Lego = score 😅
Wow awesume love it. 💟
wow, what did you smoke? I want it too! Lego has become a joke… lost lead in quality, in design, in innovation - except for excessive pricing. Most of their newer models are lacking any innovation and originality. They are only defending their market lead position by ANY means (including legal attacks on small resellers about things they actually would lose in court).
@@iseeq72 What have you been smoking? Is the question.
When was this filmed? They mention many different dates sounding like they're talking about the present or near future. Mentioning 2019 and 2016 when it looks like it was filmed in the past year.
@@HaxorDoodleYeah, I was thinking the same... it's 2024 now, but they refer to 2019 as the distant future...
Massively enjoyed the video. Love how Tom with his birds is like "it's not about the money" but literally mentions the money multiple times. That's our World. $$$
Haha.. I wonder how much he makes on the sets.
@@smOOdiebOOdie He should be compensated, of course. I just snickered a bit when he kept mentioning getting paid. 🤣
He came up with a new idea and 1% is really sad. If birds will become a big thing and they launch more sets he is out. So why is it bad to mention that he just got 1%? I mean lego could offer him a membership for free or things like that... that's a big thing for an afol and helps a lot to afford more lego for new mocs.
@@rantovicannato90461% for plans on how to use their own product isn't bad. Especially since he said just the first three months payment is enough to buy him a car.
Money is how we measure ourselves :)
Was so happy for Justin! I love it when nice things happen to people.
I'm sure we would all be thrilled to be locked in that vault of archived sets. It would be a dream come true! And it's impressive to see how organized everything is in there. Such a fantastic documentary!
I still remember when I was a kid and always excited to present my lego builds to my parents. I used to run around the apartment with a new creation and most of the time everything broke down on the way to them. I wasn't sad for long because I knew the new creation would be a little better.
interesting how they picked Justin, as he became a designer, and today he is a Senior designer, one of the best in the company
That's great to hear! Lego is not what it used to be..its so incredible the sets they have now....and happy to hear Justin is doing great!
I couldn't believe my eyes when i saw all the preserved sets
One thing I can say is they're exceptionally good at hiring the right people for the right job...customer service staffs are masters at addressing complaints, development staffs are honourably defending all development secrets and processes, sales staffs are great at marketing and boosting revenue, management staffs are running the company like it's their own life and public relations are almost unhumanly good at representing the company. It's like there's this mysterious ingredient the founders' family is keeping in a vault and secretly feeding everyone to achieve total obedience...
Guided by moral decency perhaps; what better place to be than Denmark . 🇩🇰
Justin went on and killed it. He’s got some great sets under his belt well done mate!
Very fun watch. I loved how Justin's dream became a reality, not many get the same chance.
Thank you for reminding me and giving me my recommendation for Saturday
For those who are curious; As a dane who grew up in Billund, my family actually decided to move away from the city after having lived there for over 20 years. The cities reputation of being the capital for children has brought a lot of entitled families, or as we call them in Denmark "Curling parents", which has led to the downfall of the city.
The city is filled with snobbery and entitlement, especially in the schools. Which is something that is traditionally frowned upon in Denmark, especially outside the higher class communities.
It's also funny to me how Lego literally runs Billund. Lego single-handedly controls the city and are in charge of almost all building projects in the inner city. The municipality of Billund let's Lego do whatever they want, it feels like.
Absolutely loved the video. So wholesome to see how Justin started his journey, and to then find him on Instagram and realise that I have several builds in the same room as me right now that he himself designed. Fantastic!
Be nice if those hunting on the beach cleared the other plastic and beer cans whilst they are there!
Right! You could sift the sand and bring a trash bag with you.
I instantly thought the same!
25:30 - "Helpful Guidelines" ... "You've left stuff on your desk for too long" ... "You can't eat at your desk" - Is it her job to enforce these rules then? ... As much as I love building lego sets (esp. with my daughter) - I'm glad it's just a hobby, not my job.
This corporate culture stuff is so cringe
She's their parking warden. Oop - you've left your stuff on the desk 90 mins. Leave now or I'll ticket you. yeah, that bit was a giant steaming cringefest. She tried to smile and flirt and play it down - ah sweetie - no.
Hmm shows in these two comments how sadly work ethics have severally deminished
That didn't make any sense to me.
What if you work at a desk, have a 2 hour meeting and then you come back to the desk to work more? That happends all the time.
Are they saying you'll have to clean everything up at the desk before going to the long meeting? But why....?
@@ParumPirum from what I understood, no one has an assigned desk. The employee sits at an empty desk for task they need to do and move on. Keeps from (homesteading) and being lazy. Always productive.
Definitely my dream job. And I've applied a few times. Had one interview. Still hoping, but the years are ticking by.
Ha ha, here’s my story!))
In about 2013-2014 don’t remember exactly, LEGO announced world wide competition between customers, so they built something with LEGO, and present via their website with the photos and descriptions. We with my daughter, presented a tailor/designer store, I’m a tailor myself that’s was my idea.
To make my story short. They “LEGO”released in the next series of the "LEGO FRIENDS" exact with the same idea)))
We our self, did not received a single bric for that idea ))
That is how lego designers works))
You're right. Lego designers copy/steal ideas. This is happening more and more often. These are well-known and popular ideas from Instagram and websites with MOC. No reward, no money for the original idea.
I never thought the Lego company was a cult... BUT I DO NOW
Incredible!!
The first sets they grabbed in the vault, that matthew said he didnt know if he had, i still have. I can remember walking the isle and picking it out. And of course, my lego collection is pretty big for someone that doesnt engage freakishly on it.
that vault is the holy grail. also - it's aisle.
I was excited thinking this was something new. But I guess changing the title would deter that to those who have or haven't seen it. This is The Secret World of LEGO. This was made 10 years ago and has been on Amazon Prime for a hot minute
I think this youtube channel does that a lot. Is has to be illegal, right? Passing this off as their own thing?
But we can watch on YT at 2x speed. Can't do that on Amz.
would def. be my nephew's dream job. he's into legos big right now. he gets so proud when he builds the model himself (he's 6).
Ha Sweet
Can relate, I'm 20 and still a lot (like a L O T) into LEGO, and it would be a real dream to be working for TLG...
YES!!! Moving to Denmark lol
Omg, I definitely get the Lego blindness. Working thru the UCE Millennium Falcon and have lost my mind looking for parts that are right in front of my face.
GREAT video!!! I received my first set in 1967... a nice throw-back :-)
05:07 ihave this TO!!!!!! 😀 this is a xmas gift for me, when i was a kidd
I was so eager to see the process how they mix gold into the plastic. But nothing again ;(
I remember shaking every box on Christmas morning just to see if it was Lego
LEGO would be the ultimate dream job . Any position. Looks like they take care of their employees and in turn they are loyal.
Dig a little bit deeper and look how they rip customers off. It's getting worse and worse with this company.
"Everyone loves Lego".....until you step on one in the middle of the night 😅
Or get sued by them
Justin considered picking up that can on the beach but decided naahhh. lol
Where would a person have the opportunity to apply for such a job?
Why do they have sets by the window? They work for Lego and don't know sunlight will turn it yellow?
Maybe they have windows that Block the UV ligbt
"Our ultimate ambition is to reach every child, in every country, all over the world"
Yeah, with LEGO prices, they cant even reach all kids from very well developed countries.
The ambitions feels more like:
"reach every rich child, in every very well developed country, definetly not all over the world"
I thought the same. Other not so familiar Brick Brands or Sellers do a lot non profit for kids. And then Lego goes and sues them. I am done with Lego. There are enough good competitors now.
05:50-06:06 That was me growing up. I get it 100 percent! Lego was my great escape from reality. Still is in a way, I guess. 😢
instead of running away confront those feelings and people and deal with them that way
Nice❤👍
Guy doesn’t realize the Lego boss just wants to check his clutching power 😅
That Avengers ship was $700 ! I played with sticks and rocks growing up, lol. 😂
It shows cuz your math does not add up 😅
@@fun4225 Hate to ruin your logic, but thats what the set is going for nowadays sealed
38:20 That is the F1 Driver Max Chilton
I'd give anything to have an enormous room full of color and shape sorted Lego pieces.... man...
I like Justin's taste in shirts.
It's like he gets paid by the colour. I remember book wrap designs like that in the 90s.
Now these days a lot of companies create better sets for a much lower price than LEGO. Lego today is not what it was 20 years ago.
How is this documentary released in January of 2024? Justin Ramsden's earliest Lego set was released in 2015. He's been working there at least nine years as of the release of this video, and he's designed 127 sets in that time. Is this documentary republished from somewhere else? And, if not, why have you just been sitting on this footage for the last nine years?
This footage was stolen. It originally aired on Amazon a decade ago
If you're tied to a limited number of bricks per set to maintain the high parts price, I wouldn't want to be a LEGO designer.
I started on my Lego collection since tha pandemic
Being married to Mark sounds like a hoot 😂
I would never ever make my hobby, for which I feel passion and dedication to my job. My hobby is exactly the counterweight to my job to come down and relax. This guy will no more have the same creative options and building possibilities to work and have fun with lego bricks as a job. In the end it's all about $$$.
he's a senior designer now so I'm sure he's doing alright
No point checking for the treasure bricks on the beach guys i already found the washed up sealed bag of cloud city boba fetts all 50 of them 😎
Is this document from 2013 or 2014? 10:42 he is talking about future release at 2016
From 2015. When Tom says how much money he has earned he is reading the 2015 report.
Which company made this documentary and when was it first broadcast?
Amazon did, a while ago. This channel seams to steal content and no one notices. I've noticed it on other documentaries but this cinches it
And to think there is people beggin on the streets, indeed a dream job how fortunate
How many copies do you have on 60052
I live in Denmark and have worked in Legoland
Mark and Angela's dynamic is the exact same as my wife and mine. She sorts, I build, with some blending inbetween!
05:50-06:06 That was me growing up. I get it 100 percent! Lego was my great escape from reality. Still is in a way, I guess.
That's just what we need, more plastic choking the ocean and ending up in landfill.
What you are referring to was an unfortunate maritime accident. LEGO pieces never actually end up in landfills, they are inherited down in families. Mine are in use since the 1980s. The Dark Greens love mentioning that it's made of plastic, but LEGO never actually gets thrown out. Ever.
Mark’s a lucky guy
38:19 Max Chilton?
How old is that Tom video?
We need army lego!!!
The food thing is very culty tho xD
Someone should tell the idiots that without sugar you die and that there is more of the stuff in natural things !!!
Building a future that imaged today...
And why are there always stickers to stick on yourself and no printing on the stones? If I spend 250€ on a set, I want the stones to be printed and beautiful and not slanted or crooked.
I'm confused about when this was filmed. They mention 2019 when there will be 100 minifigs to 1 person and then talk about a lego series that won't come out till 2016. But it looks like it was all recorded recently.
This originally aired on Amazon years ago. This yt channel seems to steal content, and I wish there was a way to report them to yt
@@savannah115 Ahhh I see, thanks
Lolol mark is my long lost bother 😂bro... We twins hmu
LEGO is not what it used to be in the 1990s. The quality dropped, the designs are simple and the price skyrocketed for no valid reason.
There‘s a German UA-camr (Held der Steine) who started off as a LEGO content creator, but got sued by LEGO for telling the truth, won his case and now runs a brick store in Frankfurt, selling not only LEGO, but also other brands.
In every video he‘ll build a new LEGO set and show you the better, bigger, cheaper version of the same set made by other companies.
Unfortunately, people at LEGO didn’t learn anything from their mistakes. To quote an expert: „If you’re willing to spend €600,- on a set, and have to contend with cheap and brittle plastic, and stickers, because the designer was too lazy or too cheap to print the design onto a brick, then you’re just a fan boy or even worse - a consenting victim.“ I wouldn’t spend another cent on LEGO.
Whaaattt ? No Candybars !!! Those poor poor Lego people 😂😂😂
that folder name tho 20:55
“Want to work for a company with a greater purpose than making money”-maybe, but Lego is doing a freaking great job of making money off people too…
16:19 being healthy ye, pack of cigs =)
show us we steal it
If i was going to rob anywhere it would be the lego “memory lane”
Let me know when this comes to fruition, I'd 100% assits with this.

I swear I must have paid for one of those buildings! My kids loved Lego and we spent a fortune on it. It was the one toy the twins shared and played with well into their teens. I now have 4 giant tubs full of the stuff, just waiting for grandchildren (in about 10 years).
so your grandchildren can be as spoiled as your kids. how nice.
@@riskinhos Spoiled? Who said anything about them being spoiled? Yes, we bought a lot of lego, it was their favourite toy. They didn't have video games, they didn't watch much tv, so when they weren't playing outside they were playing with their lego. Just because we chose to spend money on a toy that requires them to use their brain instead of parking them in front of a console doesn't make our kids spoiled.
@@thehangmansdaughter1120 yes it does.

This world will never get along with each other
How were 90% of the people in the documentary so lacking in expression/emotion? Lego doesn't seem like a very happy job
What do you want them to do? Dance around like peewee effing herman?
Be easier to replace them with AI in a couple of years.
Probably because they aren’t used to having a big camera shoved in their face all the time. It’s pretty normal to be anxious when being recorded especially when you know it’s going in tv
It’s Denmark. Those people aren’t very expressive.

No sugar? No personal desk? I smell Orwell.
Strange. I've seen this documentary before.
This was great... More of these. We don't have to hate each other. We can disagree and respect one another.
NO LEGO store in my city sad :(
As i was young, this was my dream, but today? No, thanx! Lego d'ont care what we fans want.
I was born in 2013 so I was 1 when It came out
3:00 when you are ALREADY there picking up trash, WHY NOT THE REST ???
Its not that insane the story of inspiration. I wanted me an engineer cuz my aunt gave me a star wars lego and i tought was so cook now i study aeroespace engineer
The Lego’s that they threw away cause of the color mix. They should have kept them & called them the misfits & sell them . What a waste. When see the blue & white that could of been the sky with clouds, or pond with snow. So many ideas that they could have used. Give me a check for my idea. lol
No wonder they got rid of the medieval, too many betas in that meeting room.
Every boy dreams of a wife like mark found. Lego is not my life, but i love how this part of their relationship works.
They are not inline with the scientific data if beef is some of the most healthy food. Unfortunately.
That london office sounds awful
It's London of course it is.
fair lol@@BigAL0074
My condolences, they probably tell you to design a set for 2.40 USD in production cost and then sell it for 50 bucks
Lego is going crazy and we're going to stop buying things because of the cost. I'd buy so many more if it wasn't so expensive. So, knock off sets are the jam right now because of money. 1/4 to 1/2 the price.
34:00 not staged at all...
I like knex better haha. Because you can build a realistic rollercoaster with them. Lego coasters suck
But wait, there's more: 32:10 - "Does it feel like a cult?" - She wants to say yes, but being on camera, she comes back with the next worst thing - "it feels like family." It's good to enjoy your job, but a good job should neither be like a cult and certainly not like a "family." Huge red flags here!
Exactly. Every company that claims to be "like a big family"... Is just crappy and wants to guilt force you into working more hours than your contract without being paid.
That was my exact thought before I even made it to that part. The no sweets, no eating, no leaving things on your desk longer than an hour...not gonna lie this seems like a TERRIBLE soul crushing workplace disguised with smiles for the camera.

Honestly, I wouldn’t want to work for Lego, it seems like they are extremely strict and they want control on the molecular level
Honestly, the designing of visual sets like this is not all that impressive if you know what pieces are available. I however have the greatest respect for Lego Technic designers! I just built the set 42128 with my son. It is impressive how they managed to compact so many mechanisms and gears in the available space from the chassis
