I have the same exact Amps. I upgraded the Laney speaker to an Argentinean made Dragon 12 (similar V30 but warmer). Replaced the Champion no name speaker with the Laney HH speaker.

My 1x12 combo is a Supro Black Magick. It's a peach for recording, loud enough to play live, basically has the same wattage/volume range of an AC30 or a Vibrolux. Its cleans are warm and chewy, with a hint of sparkle. Great tube tremolo. The drive tones are immaculate for mid-gain styles all the way up to hard rock. My only, albeit minor, complaint is that there's no onboard reverb... But pedals are a more versatile source of verb anyway, and I'm not a snob about a good DSP. I just don't think I'll ever need a bigger or louder amp for the music I write. 10/10 recommend!

It’s a give and take and no single 1x12 will do it all but the DSP/Solid State combo is moving in a good direction! Thanks for posting!

I've always preferred 1X12 combos. It's aways been my thing. I owned a Marshall stack for years and realized at a certain point that I had no need for 4X12s and began using a number of different combos, mostly 1X12, like a Boogie 50 Cal for a Randall, Laney, Peavey, etc. And I rocked the Sunset Strip with these amps. They held down the fort just fine next to some very loud drummers in the 80s and early 90s. The thing I like about a single speaker is the focus and immediate attack and clarity.

Great video Mike. I have a 1x12 Fender Princeton 65 black face, Laney Super CubTop Head and a solid state Orange Supercrush 100 amp head with Laney Cab. But agreed a 1x12 combo amp is very versatile. You can used them for anything. I used my Fender Princeton on a lot of stuff including live shows. It has enough power. But I like the head and cab options also.

I have a Fender Princeton 65 Dyna Touch, MIM from the mid-90's. Also 1x12. It's ear bleedingly loud. Rarely take it past 2 on volume.

I was looking at the 30/18 and the comment most common was it’s too loud. Of course that’s a 2x12, but a built in attenuated watt option is useful!

Great advice! I got rid of my Marshall stack in the early 80’s and started running a Fender deluxe reverb along with an old custom amp, remember the Custom sparkling padded amps? 😂

I'm an old geezer who only plays from the couch now so I'm a small amp guy. I have a Champion 20 which is plenty loud enough (especially when the wife yells "Can you turn it down!!"). Thinking of switch the stock speaker out for a Jensen. Any special mods needed?
