I'm guessing there is little chance of it happening, but it would be really interesting to have Jerry Sadowitz on one of these podcasts.

No, Jerry Sadowitz. He's a rather controversial comedian/magician who had a brief run on telly in the '90s, although he's still active on the live circuit. You'll struggle to find any of his stuff on UA-cam though, as it's automatically blocked by him. There aren't any official DVD releases, either.

I remember he released a few videos (over 20 years ago)
one a magic tutorial
and I think the other was either stand up or a compilation of his TV show,
a few books (now out of print) too.
Apparently you can get the Sadowitz experience by catching him in his local boozer
(apparently he's there most days and has been for years)
Alas, I've forgotten what it's called.
If you're lucky, you might catch him when he's in a bad mood,
he might lose his temper and go on a little rant.

Josh Widdicombe is truly "one of the greats"..I watch his performances twices to catch the brilliant nuance and subtlety that I always miss the first time. A true giant of comedy.

I have less in common with Josh Widdicombe than I thought.
I met the puma on the corner of Braunton Road and Fair View in Barnstaple one rainy evening in 1976. It had escaped from its owner, who kept it as a guard cat for his butcher's shop. (Yes...) It snarled, we froze, and my mate said "Fucking Hell, a tiger!". It turned and chased a woman into a garden, so we chased it back onto the main road, just as the police arrived. The traffic screeched to a halt, with horns sounding, and the cop said " Oh fuck, not again...". We called in at the police station on our way back later, and they told us it had escaped a few times. In the 1980s Judith Hann did a programme for the BBC about the beast of Bodmin, with a piece to camera by the shop. (These are garbled highlights, it was a slightly better story than I can write here.)
"Buffalo Stance" wasn't a number one. Joe Dolce was number one in 80 I think, you won Richard!
Ick I saw Rhona Cameron on Celebrity Pointless and she was just so irritating. I'm sorry you had to deal with losing with her. That would burn me.

I'm not a fan but I do realise Josh Widdicombe is smart and hard-working. Earlier in his career he used to write the minute by minute football match blog entries for the Guardian.
Some weeks now he'll do "Have I got news for you"/"Mock the Week"/"The Last Leg", Fighting Talk" Live on Sat Morning BBC Radio 5 and Sunday 10AM-1PM XFM slot.
always engaging and entertaining with unique content for each gig.
Also it's a really smart thing to appear to be "dumb" - it's something he does really well. Did you know that in comedy duos the straight man earns more than the funny one? That skill as a straight man is the core of his comedy appeal.
One big source of his humour is to play the naive simple outsider making a really simple point against the elaborate flourishes of the "funny" big name talent
then I guess I underestimated his skills...I do enjoy his appearances on what ever show he pops up on. I don't have a mean word for him.

He probably gets 100 trolls like you a day "joshing" him if he has 5 minutes to quickly search for a fan to reply to why should he have to sift through the sewage of trolls? It was practical to block you it doesn't mean he's sensitive or took it personally.

Gosh I wonder why I blocked you. Can't wait til my gigs are compulsory.... I rarely block people, only if they're being utter dicks or are very rude out of nowhere or if they don't seem to realise that there is an unfollow button (and am thus helping them from having to view the content that they don't like). Seems like you might have qualified on all counts Paul. Weird to spend even a moment of your time on a comedian you don't like. The blocking seems to have stung given your lack of regard for me. Go and channel your energies more positively with something that you enjoy. I don't expect everyone to like what I do which is why I hide away on the internet where you actually have to make the effort to find me. Have a great 2015. At least you'll be easy to spot at my gigs.
Richard you're probably a really nice guy, but the internet does this to people, you're the closest thing to Ken Dodd in my opiinion.Well done.

Humour is so subjective, so one person telling me they don't like me is pretty meaningless. So it doesn't bother me in the least. I assume most people don't like my stuff (or even know about it). But enough do to mean I can make a living. Unless you think your opinion overrides everyone else's I'd say the best thing to do is for you to spend your time on stuff you like. Or at the very least consider what it is about yourself that makes you feel the need to seek out people you don't like to tell them about it. It's odd behaviour when you think about it. But people don't really like to turn their critical eye upon themselves. All the best sorting out your issues. Go and watch some comedy that you like. Or tell someone you like that you like them. You might find that makes you feel better about yourself too.
Why is Josh even on the stage, Richard is just talking about himself mostly.
I think it's supposed to be a dialogue rather than an interview.
Listening to these dated podcasts after the recent terrorist attacks in England have been pretty cringy. "I like coming up with terrorist atrocities I would like to carry out".
Terrorist attacks were happening then too. So I don't see why it's any worse now. It's meant to be cringy isn't it? And to give us power over something horrible by laughing at it and being inappropriate. Sorry if terrorism only affects you if it's close by though.
Hi Richard, I have just discovered your podcasts, and am really enjoying them. Thanks! My favourite guests so far have been Stephen Fry, Sarah Millican, Dawn French, Bob Mortimor, David Mitchell and Greg Davies.
That was my honest, gut reaction. And, as Jimmy Carr says, comedy is supposed to make you laugh as a reflex before the moral compass kicks in. This cognitive dissonance is what comedy is about, fundamentally. I do not laugh as much on my own, so perhaps my moral compass kicked in first!
I know terrorism is a part of the fabric of history (sadly). But I am relatively young, and so my knowledge of terrorism in the UK really only starts from the 2005 bombings. Your comment, however, about terrorism only affecting me if close, does not apply. I am not even from the UK (I am Australian), but have only recently lamented over the ignorance of many people about the injustices suffered by those in areas overlooked by mainstream media. In 2017, there have been over 707 attacks and 4,470 killed, many of these in disregarded countries such as Somalia, Yemen, Nigeria. But, the reality is that terrorism is increasing in the West, and this facilitates a more emotive response from a West-centric general public. Faces and names are lives reported, not just numbers.
And I agree, comedy is a coping mechanism which allows people to remain stoic, gaining power over evil people/situations, focusing on sameness rather than differences. I guess the crux of my first comment is, with the current situation in the UK, is this still an emergency question you ask your new guests (I haven't seen many recent pods), have recent events have impacted how you ask it, or do you think it is even more important to ask, after gauging from the audience that it is the right time to resume such questions. For example, Jimmy Carr said on Desert Island Disks that the event in the UK he thinks cannot be joked about is Hillsborough - and he was recently asked if he would joke about Grenfell. Granted, these were bigger events, but he used the example of Louis CK making a joke about 9/11 three weeks afterwards, when the audience was ready.
Sorry for writing an essay, but I wasn't expecting a response and I really appreciate it! I was so excited and I felt special :) And I realise I was cursory in my first comment, so now I am doing the exact opposite :)
