I have an almost 14 year old son and an almost 12 year old son. They BOTH know damn good and well that murder is not only illegal, it’s permanent. He is absolutely old enough to grasp exactly what he has done and he should at least be incarcerated until he is 21 without question. I’m sick of this “justice” system. He was “incompetent”? My ass. 🙄

The justice system is usually loosing people in the system. Check the stats, not just a few cases.
Most kids growing up in certain neighborhoods would defend themselves by all means. So, in the moment, they don’t see murder as wrong.

Throughout the decades parents have been raising horrible people. The only difference now is that with the advent of social media we are hearing about them more.
Jeffrey Dahmer, Jack the Ripper, John Wayne Gacy, H H Holmes, Ted Bundy springs to mind.

@@user-fx8kx8sv7s Probation IS a punishment and therapy and treatment are usually included, especially when it comes to juveniles. The judge probably made their desicion based on the juvenile's best interest and we don't know how long he spent in custody prior to sentencing so the time he spent in custody was accounted for too. Whatever is in the child's best interest should come first

The standard for being incompetent to stand trial isn’t simply that you suffer from a mental illness, and it is very difficult to meet. In order to be found incompetent to stand trial, one of the following requirements must be met:
The defendant does not understand the nature and object of the proceedings against him or her. In order to meet this standard, the defendant cannot have even a minimal understanding of his or her role as a defendant, the role of the judge, the prosecutor, or the defense attorney, the penalties that he or she is facing as a result of being charged with a crime, or the criminal process. A defendant who does not understand the nature and the object of the proceedings against him or her is most typically someone with extremely low intelligence, or who is suffering from significant psychosis.
The defendant is unable to assist in his or her defense in a rational manner. In order to meet this standard, the defendant is unable to do things like discuss with his or her attorney the facts of the case, rationally make decisions regarding things like plea offers or whether or not to testify on their own behalf at trial. A defendant who is unable to assist in his or her defense in a rational manner is likely suffering from severe psychotic symptoms.
If a person does meet one of the two requirements to meet the standard for being incompetent to stand trial, the Court will order that person to undergo treatment, supervised by the Michigan Center for Forensic Psychiatry. The Forensic Center, or another psychiatric hospital working at their direction, will treat the defendant to attempt to restore them to competency.
A finding that someone is incompetent to stand trial does not mean that the defendant will no longer be prosecuted for the crime for which they are charged. Being found incompetent to stand trial means something very different than being found not to be criminally responsible due to insanity. A defendant who has been found incompetent to stand trial will be administered treatment for up to 15 months in order to attempt to make them competent to stand trial. After a defendant is restored to competency, they will return to the court system to enter a plea, have a trial, or in some manner adjudicate their case.
If a defendant is being treated for his or her inability to understand the nature and the object of the proceedings, they will likely go through training and education to try to teach them about the court proceedings, including their role as a defendant, and the role of the judge, the prosecutor, and the defense attorney. Even if you just have them toss around the neighborhood, once one neighbor has it, then they’ll all have it. Hopefully the other children will be protected.

At 14 I pushed my parent off me because they were beating me with a belt buckle, they ended up falling, and I got 2 weeks in juvenile detention.. but this child murders someone and gets probation? What kind of BS is this?

This is heartbreaking. This is a family friend and it’s been extremely hard to even watch.

The boy that passed away, has cousins, uncles, and other male family members that may take street justice. The killer would be better off serving tens years in juvenile jail then be free. Everyone in a family may not let someone take their loved family members life. And permit the killer to walk free with a slap on the wrist probation like nothing happened. We had our system that was slow, and corrupt and the Taliban developed a superior system that was quick and very fair.

He is getting probation, supervision
, and anger management classes, which he needs to not be a repeat offender. He should only be charged as a Juvenile Delinquent meaning the longest he could or should receive would be Juvenile Detention until 18, then Prison until 25. We also don’t know the shooting circumstances. Xs one of his friends was stabbed and so maybe it was justifiable under self defense.

No he simply is young, however someone died. Both person’s are young but letting someone out isn’t the best option, he needs to serve up to 5, years or more depending on his behavior, released at 17, 18, or 21, for to make sure he knows what he did is wrong.

I’m so torn on this. He MURDERED someone! He took a innocent CHILD for no reason! He should have more of a punishment. I do believe that young teens that commit murder shouldn’t get life or a lot of time but they should get something. A LOT of therapy. A LOT of counseling. Some time in a rehabilitation center specializing in young offenders. But he definitely shouldn’t be allowed to do what he wants.
Family and friends can always take their time to make sure justice is served. Good luck to the victims Family in taking necessary time to have true justice.
