If you are the monarch, you don't need to target with aragorn's ability in order to get the effect because of the way it's worded, it just opens you up to removal countering the trigger.
Hahaha, this is amazing. I just thought of that this morning if this would actually be the only target of the ability and therefor an opportunity to fizzle it. Thanks for confirming! I even did it multiple times against a sacrifice deck
"I don't know anything about LotR." The old movies are so good, give it a shot and watch the 12hrs extended edition :-D
really cool what you said about the creative space in duel commander. Even though it's pretty clear what the strongest decks are you can still brew a lot and just follow a good idea or just a style you like. Best feeling in the world when you find a decently strong deck nobody thought about so far or made any lists on top8 with
Very true! And I would argue that Duel Commander is very close to the last place where it realistic to accomplish
Spell cast with flashback is exiled instead of putting it anywhere else any time it would leave the stack. This includes effects like Reprieve.
29:17 Noooo, do not target here! You are monarch so no need to target Tivit to stop blocking. Target nothing so you do not need to pay ward and can't be blown out by solitude. Not paying 3 let's you bluff lot of good stuff here and not necessarily even bluff as you could draw them from monarch trigger.
37:58 Same thing here, no targets is optimal. Targeting is only better here if opponent would have someway to gain monarch with trigger on stack, but that is impossible with amount of mana they have open and even if they had more mana open it would require so niche cards it is not worth playing around.
41:37 Same here, opponent cat eat Aragorn if you target nothing with attack trigger.
45:37 I see that explains it. Not knowing what cards do makes it more difficult to play optimally.
50:18 I liked shocking here. Could signal lot of things to opponent besides mana tithe. Also shocking this early could maybe hide our third land. It is sign that probably was our last land in hand, which is not true in this case. Shocking here and potentially getting island with prismatic vista also helps with our island count. We are not playing mystic sanctuary, but no reason to let opponent know that. Having 3 islands in play may make opponent scary of future island fetches maybe more than they should be, then again there is Phlage concerns so it is bit tricky.
1:04:52 No you do not have to target. It notably says up to one target creature. Also liked attacking with both here. Aragorn has vigilance so you have something back anyway and can push 4 more damage in with bonecrusher giant.
1:08:53 I liked counterspell here, baleful strix complicates monarch fight. Could mom subtlety through strix to force monarch back, but then strix eats Aragorn, which is not good either. On top of that cosmic rebirth gives 3 life, which is just healing salve but could very well end up being relevant from looking at texture of current situation.
1:13:40 I like playin Phelia here. Playing eot Phelia is our plan anyway, no reason to give opponent choice to mess with our immediate plans.
1:21:54 Can't start copying Ajani, reflection of Kiki-Jiki only copies nonlegendary.
Thank you for keeping me on my toes! Lots of goodies here
lol second game is me
