I was a "closet" Carpenter's fan back in the day, but the number of Klipschorn loudspeakers she sold at the high end audio store I worked at part time back in the mid 70's was truly astonishing. The sales associate would welcome in a group of Doctors or Lawyers taking an extended lunch break to do some stereo shopping. In they would go to the closed door listening room and the first song the sales guy would play would be KAren singing the Leon Russel classic "This Masquerade". IT truly sounded like she was in the room with the listeners. More times than not they were headed to the cash register to order a pair of the "corner horns" and the electronics to go with the speakers. Certainly the greatest Alto of the 20th Century. Their music will live forever. God Bless the Carpenters!!
I saw the title, then saw and recognized the thumbnail, clicked immediately. My sister and I had this album. We knew all the words, even the "dj's". Thank you for sharing this.
This is SO great! I'm listening to this again, for what is probably the 1,000th time, and the Carpenters sing these songs just as good or better than the original hits!😊
I remember when I was in junior high in Ballwin MO(About 25 miles outside of St.Louis) I was a KSLQ(now Y-98 FM) listener and they played all the Top 40 hits and they also played what they called “Carpenters Collage” which turned out to be an edited version of this oldies medley-I thought this was a special record A&M made available only to radio stations-I never knew until I started streaming on YT that the unedited version was always on the “Now and Then” album-of course when this first came out I was a red-blooded teen male who DID NOT want anyone-especially my He-Man brothers-that I liked The Carpenters-because even then I knew that Karen sang better than most any other artist on wax back in the day-or that Richard was a better arranger-producer than just about any other 1970’s knob-twister!!! This medley is incredible-plus you get to hear Richard sing lead-he had a real decent voice too!!! And I ❤️the between-song monologue! So 1960’s Top 4O 📻 radio!!!
Listening to "The End of the World" on my Koss phones in '72 would leave me in a melted puddle, on the floor....super natural notes by a one-of-a-kind voice. "Goodbye" Karen.
I think Skeeter Davis did the original back iin the early 60's TRivia.... Skeeter Davis is the answer to the question...." Who was the first Country singer to win a Grammy?
And why put Benny and Bjorn over Carpenters and Beatles? Good question, here is THE answer. Benny and Bjorn(ABBA)wrote ALL of their songs,,,every damn one of them. Many of Beatles and Carpenters songs were covers. It is not a coincidence that Benny wrote all their songs from the keyboard. Benny never had a piano lesson either.
Where was I when "The end of the world" was a hit? Singapore 1963 - treasured memories - that's where I met my wife - it seems like only yesterday. Married in 1966 and still together.
Last time i heard this classic was on the radio the day she died next day i got the 8 cd box set on e-bay all the best hits with this one yes and Thanks for posting this!
The rich velvety tones of Karen's incredible voice is captivating and ageless, and she and Richard made this duo a massive hit in the 70's that still attracts a great following today. The incredible talent of the Carpenters is still being discovered today by a much younger generation who really appreciate the beauty of Karen's voice and the beautiful harmony which over dubbing created to make their music so perfect. Never a tone missed and no auto tuning surprises many of today's youth at the flawless quality of their music. I love to see the reactions of some UA-cam users who listen in awe and comment on how wonderful this REAL music is. Absolutely amazing!
Someone needs to make a comment since over 2 years ago !!!!!! This album should never be forgotten. Social media has take over and we get from female singers is high pitched scream (not blaming them but blaming the money making moguls). Her pure voice is a legacy that today's money makers have NO chance of repeating.
Come on. Adele and Beyonce are phenomenal singers, Katy Perry is solid, and season after season people you'll never hear of again belt out songs like there's no tomorrow on reality talent shows. The quality of vocalists today is really high, and they all record their own background harmonies as the Carpenters did ( because there's no money to hire top background vocalists for a session 😓). It is true that Autotune can make anyone sound weirdly decent, and the production choices producers make for pop records are often that weirdly out-of-tune rap-influenced whine. But the raw talent is assuredly there. What's missing is the deep dark blue background of sadness from which Karen Carpenter's voice springs! I have never heard it equaled.
This song EXACTLY describes growing up in the AM Top 40 era. I was fortunate to have grown up listening to one of the top AM Top 40 stations ever--CKLW in Windsor/Detroit. Thanks for posting the complete medley!
My favourite Carpenters album. With the whole of one side devoted to this medley its a great reminder of the style and music of 1960's America. Takes me back to being a kid and being fed a diet of Bewitched, Mary Tyler Moor and Dick van Dyke on TV in the UK which America look so glamorous and grown-up.
What a record, I still listening in the earlie's 70's in 73 the good discs in cd's. The really friend She was for me. I'll never forget. I still exist, I smile it was like a dream the first cd's the new monistors of sony and panasonic...
my father bought this album in 1973, since that year, when I was 11 years old I fell in love with Karen, I listened to the album several times just for Karen 🥰
I love The Carpenters Oldies Medley Yesterday Once More was a classic I love this !! They don't make Carpenters music like this anymore is Richard Carpenter is still around making music. Thanks for posting Deanna !!
This has to be one of the greatest album cuts of all recorded music. It certainly is a favorite of mine, bringing back memories of the world of my childhood, before everything became so confusing. Back when music spoke to the very heart of the listener. Back before "rap" turned the culture into a "gansta' thug life" mentality.
I have resisted listening to that medley for decades, because I was pretty sure I was going to hate it (I don't like medleys). But guess what, I loved it. Can't help wishing for a full version of "Our Day Will Come", though. It was perfect for her voice.
Karen's Song Make Me Feel Like I'm A Kid Again & I Choke Up Still Today... It's Haunting That She's Been Gone For 35 Yrs & I Still Think Of Her & Get Choked Up... She Was A Beautiful Singer-songwriter; Still Is Even After She's Gone...
snowball6389 its better to be an oldie then fall for this crap of today on the radio im 24 and my music tastes are so diferent i consider myself an oldie 😂😂😂😂😂
@dan phillpotts I love '"This Masquerade" beautifully sung by Karen. They are for sure one of my favorite groups. I will check out Tony Bennett later on!!
I heard that song on the radio almost every day when it was first released. Karen's voice was undeniably beautiful and captivating. Since the age of 7 and present day, her album is still played almost everyday---especially that song. Yes, it's yesterday once more. IN EVERY SONG, KAREN SANG IN PERFECT PITCH and HAS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SINGING VOICES.
This is the way you post music!! Unedited, uninterrupted and straight from the recording. One amazing assortment of hits from the 60's bracketed by a timeless song that takes us all back to another time and place. Thank you Deanna for posting this precious music that needs no further compliment as it stands on its own as one of the best tracks assembled.
Favorite LP I ever had. I knew the leader of the pack was familiar, it is the same song musically really as deadmans curve which came out about a year earlier despite both being credited as 1964. The original deadmans curve was 63, but officially feb 64 a new version. leader of the pack was late in 64. Thanks for this upload was a nice memory to be reminded of.
What a masterful arrangement of the oldies with such great, fun stuff. I well remember the days when DJs would play that jumbled mix of voices. Hilarious. The rich harmonies just can't be beat. And then Karen's closing piece "When I was young I'd listen.. " with the reverb echo of "so fine" just gives me goosebumps.
Not heard this medley of songs for a number of years now. I got the original LP and played it to death virtually. All these years later it still astounds that Karens voice and Richards production could produce such a magical 20 minutes. Her voice is so rich on every track. The finale ONE FINE DAY and Johnny Angel the stand outs for me. Absolutely brilliant and its never dated one little bit.
@David Jacobs It still bothers me what happened after Richard sold the property. I won't watch it. However, I do understand his reasons. God Bless you, Richard.
2021 and still going strong. When this album came out it was played over and over and each word of the lyrics was repeated and the best part ... "Where were you when this song was No 1" Still has the same impact.
That reprise at the end is amazing. If there was an entire song like that I would listen repeatedly. Can someone isolate it and extend it a bit and post it? I don't know how to do that stuff.
I was a "closet" Carpenter's fan back in the day, but the number of Klipschorn loudspeakers she sold at the high end audio store I worked at part time back in the mid 70's was truly astonishing. I was 13 when this album was realeased, i am 63 now and i still love this album
The Carpenters are class pure and simple.... class ❤️
It ended when you said goodbye 💔😢
The Night Has A Thousand Eyes - luv this song!
Splendid medley from the Carpenters.
This album was the main sound of the summer of :73 for me...
This song showcased the best type of songs in my teenage years
Same...
Karen also played all the drums on this album (except for Jambalaya). What a talented lady!
I saw the title, then saw and recognized the thumbnail, clicked immediately. My sister and I had this album. We knew all the words, even the "dj's".
Thank you for sharing this.
Playing in a band touring Newfoundland when this came out....bitter sweet memories. Great to hear again.
This is SO great! I'm listening to this again, for what is probably the 1,000th time, and the Carpenters sing these songs just as good or better than the original hits!😊
She had the voice of an angel.

I literally grew up to this album and I'm only 16. My parents would play the cassettes in our van when we would go on long car rides
I'm 27 and I grew up listening to this too! Took me forever to find this album though. So glad I did though! 😁
Listening to "The End of the World" on my Koss phones in '72 would leave me in a melted puddle, on the floor....super natural notes by a one-of-a-kind voice. "Goodbye" Karen.
pro 4 AA and ESP9 electrostatics sheer heaven
I think Skeeter Davis did the original back iin the early 60's TRivia.... Skeeter Davis is the answer to the question...." Who was the first Country singer to win a Grammy?
Karens voice will go on forever and ever so much passion in every word, such a talented lady and will go on to be,never forgotten
Brilliant. RIP Karen Carpenter what a legend. We will all love her foreverer more.
My dad had this on 8-track. I remember listening to it a lot on summer vacation in 1978.
Karen and Richard
Greatest team ever.
Karen has a special place in heaven making so many people
Happy with her music
Greatest team ever?
John and Paul were good.
Benny and Bjorn were very good too.
Wow.................just still amazing..................We miss you..........
Where was I when "The end of the world" was a hit? Singapore 1963 - treasured memories - that's where I met my wife - it seems like only yesterday. Married in 1966 and still together.
Karen is still the best female artist, and Richard’s arrangements and mixing were masterful!
Miss you Karen !
Such a full, rich honey-sweet voice that loved the microphone and keeps the listener hanging on every note. No other voice comes close. Period.
I love this...Great music and beautiful music!!
I always liked this album!! Still do...2017~.
Last time i heard this classic was on the radio the day she died next day i got the 8 cd box set on e-bay all the best hits with this one yes and Thanks for posting this!
Classic album..always a favorite. Never get tired of listening to this one.
Love this album
Karen en Richard zijn altijd mijn favorieten geweest, heel mooi !!!!
I bought this on vinyl all those years ago, loved it then and still love it now in 2019. "Deeeeeaaaaad Maaaaans Cuuuuurrrrve".
Gee, I was listening to this song when I came across your comment! I bought this on cassette tape! Lol.
14:42 guitarist Tony Peluso as the DJ "Mark Rudolph, you are WRONNNGGG! Urghlff"
That kills me, Now & Then.
When I was a college student, I was listening to this album exactly!
Best female vocalist ever !
Karen is singing about my past jr. high and high school days. Oh those golden oldies!!
God Bless Karen and Richard.
What an album, wonderful voice, what great idea, Richard!

Excellent - The Reprise at the end is particularly sweet.
Karen Carpenter has the most angelic voice anyone ever had.
This brings back such great memories! I loved this album. As I kid I used to listen to this all the time, on 8 track! Thanks!
Two fabulous musicians with a great concept piece. Bravo! Brava!
I've been a fan of as long as I can remember. I love all of their songs never get tired of them😍😄😘☺️
I'm lovin this 😁♥️ Johnny Angel has ALWAYS been a favorite of mine and I love the way Karen sings it! Karen and Richard Carpenter = Magic 😁
The end of this is so hauntingly beautiful.
They (Karen & Richard) were so great !!!

+Tony Young, it is a great lineup indeed! I especially enjoyed Skeeter's song.
I'm having fun, fun, fun listening to it!!
Yes and it is also Karen on the drums. Without Karen Carpenter we wouldn't have all the great female drummers that we have today. She lead the way.
@@kenthemanmcmillan8965 yeah, she was an accomplished musian, and a fantastic singer!

Richard must have been so inspired by "the beach sounds" of the early 60s!
el mejor medley que he escuchado

These songs are good enough for her to do as songs on an album instead of a medley.

Melhor performanse dos Carpenters, neste LP !!! Uau !!!
Richard Carpenter should have convinced the A&M brass to make "One Fine Day" a single. I believe it would have been a hit.
Beautiful song
Love it
me too. just magic
That house in that album cover is still standing at
9828 Newville Avenue, Downey, CA 90240
Wow!! was that their family home?? I wonder who lives there today??!!
i checked and yes, it's in existence and you can't even see the front of the house.

Hello. Hope you're enjoying the music and having a beautiful day!
Best heard in stereo.
a lot of people don't realize that is all Karen and Richard with over dubbing.. no Background singers...
I thought it was a bunch of background girls with a voice very similar to Karen´s
Cette voix, unique a perpétuitée....une légende
I could really get in trouble telling what I was doing the first time I listened to this album :-)
Karen is an angel
