    How does it compare to an NAS with Intel i5 or Xeon processor?

    Same with GPGPU please, or equivalent of TS-h886 with ryzen processor and PCIe4

    What ZIL (write log) cache size is depend on? Is it depend on drive size or size of the memory in the NAS? I got this one and would like to know which drives to buy for my ZIL to have the maximum size of it.

    Can the USB C port be used to connect this directly to my Mac for editing? Or is it only for attaching additional drives?

    I'm looking for something like the ts-h973ax (with ZFS, 10GbE, ECC RAM support and small form factor), but with video out and a little bit of video processing capability. I see the AMD V2000 series of embedded CPU, released in 2020 (the successor to the V1000 in the ts-h973ax) would support such features. Do you have any plans to update the next version of the ts-h973ax with a v2000 or similar, any time soonish?

      It appears like Qnap decided to go with more enterprisy approach after the first ZFS-based consumer devices with more recent approach sporting Epyc CPUs in an all-flash-station package that costs more than 7 times more... They are yet to release a newer variant of these more consumer-friendly ZFS-based devices... They've done the Intel N5xxx line-up in the TS-X64 series already, guess they might release something newer in the hero line-up around late fall if they even consider.... it would have made far more sense to start with the V2000 iGPU chips to begin with since these were already on the market when the hero line-up was released (albeit V1000s were already in use in their cheaper enterprise rack solutions so R&D costs were already soaked and still they decided against the iGPU enabled chips for the consumerish line-ups - possibly due to their apps/OS not supporting properly the embedded iGPUs to the fullest, eg. in transcoding or HDMI-out mediacenter pipelines), but I guess they just got a good deal on another batch of the then already quite old Ryzen V1500Bs... one that made more sense for the SMB deployments more than enthusiast homelab/consumer usecases their TS-X53, TS-X73 and now TS-X64 were designed to serve. Unfortunately, since last time we got Ryzen V1000 lowest variant upon V2000 release (and thus possible AMD contract renegotiations/changes across the industry), it stands to reason that a V2000 equipped consumer device may be released when AMD starts to offer V3000s and the V2000s get "heavily" discounted, and as far as I recall AMD roadmaps that might happen next year. So there's a big chance of no newer hero variants anytime soon.

    Hey there, 2 questions. 1. I just bought this NAS and keep getting the 'Digital License has expired' popup, and when I look at it it says the firmware license was given until 28/08/2022. Is this just is case of update the firmware? And secondly. I cannot select NFS or FTP on windows, it just says FTP, but 'cannot connect to FTP, you don't have acces' So I'm stuck with 250mb/s over SMB protocol. I can't find a single video on how to set this up proparly. Suggestions are welcome

    So can I use the new Gen 4 Samsung 980 Pro? It's not listed on Qnap's Site and I don't know if it only takes Gen3 SSD? Qnap, please update and be more clear! Thanks a lot

      Yes. I am using them. The Gen 4 Samsung 980 Pro is backwards compatible with PCIe 3.0

    HOW to put m.2 SSDs in it? ther are just sata / sas slots, so where to put them in?

    • @Frostifrysen
      @Frostifrysen 2 роки тому

      Well, there are no connectors and Qnap aren's saying that either... so whats the issue?

      I got one of these units, the top 2 bays on the bottom 4 are for nvme, the lower 2 for Sata ssd.

      Not exactly. The four below can be all 2.5 ssd - OR - the upper two of four can be uber expensive (albeit performant) u.2 (not m.2) nvme drives. Now getting to your question, you can use a $30 to $50 adapter to allow you to interface your m.2 drives into the u.2 slots. Search qda-ump or even the qda-u2mp for two m.2 per sled :)

      They make an M.2 ssd to u.2 drive bay adaptor for like $50.00

    Expensive and yet not that functional... Looks like Synology 1621+ albeit with better networking and with ZFS. The Qtier tech here is interesting but at only 2xU.2 and 2xSFF and 5xLFF you're practically limited to 5xLFF which you can use eg. in Z1 for 4 disk useful capacity, then both pairs need to be used in mirror each for security as per Qtiering preferences making it actual 2x1 disk of different SFF tier, excluding usage of any of the devices for ZIL/ARC/LOG... It could have been better if either U.2 or SATA SFF slots were replaced the others giving extra tier capacity and then allowing M.2 extra slots for caches/ZIL/LOG. But hey, it's still Ryzen based, albeit prev gen cores and no iGPU, it offers ZFS toolset and faster networking, when neither Synology nor Asustor offers these technologies in desktop format and that's applaudable.

      Then build a nas using FreeNAS and the sky is the limit! I use FreeNAS and have a big ass ZFS array in my home.

      @@tangoseal1 Oh I did, before the hero line was released ;) Still, this device by Qnap attempts to mass produce for regular customers an out-of-the-box solution that's interesting in its logic/intention but kind of flawed in execution... as in Qnap had their Qtier solution in regular QTS OS , but it has not been recoded into a similar on the enterprise sourced sourcecode for the hero line-up... You're only getting multiple tiers through separate VDEVs/pools which limits usefulness of multiple tiers of SSD in such a product, there is no built-in eg. overlay-based tiering solution incorporated - they had one built out of the building blocks available for ext4, but lacked the will or expertise to create a similar for ZFS... in an enterprise-class device there's usually far more than 5 drives per class of device so the manual creation of "hot/warm/cold/cache/metadata tiers" through pools/vdevs makes more sense and allows users to put a lot of useful data into each, but here you're limited to 5 LFFs, 2 slower SFFs and 2 faster SFFs, so basically space for mirroring, thus 1 disk worth of actual space in the SSD "tiers", and that might be limiting - had they gone with eg. 3+3 SFF slots, you'd have a chance of going Z1 on both pools, with extra performance from the storage arrays and security...
