The Group Is From Canton Mississippi & The 2 Lead Singers are Father & Son "Harvey Watkins Sr & Harvey Watkins Jr, Sad To Say That The Father Passed Away A Few Years Ago, But The Canton Spirituals are Still Singing, Just a Little Information On How I Became Such a Huge Fan of Down Home Soulful Southern Baptist Style of Gospel, My Dad Song In a Local Gospel Groups All Around Alabama (Where I'm From) & They Had Church Functions/Singing's All The Time Where Different Groups & Soloists Would Perform In Our Local Area & I Would Hear Groups/Soloists From All Over The State/Country, Wow, Wow & All The Baptist Church Choirs Sing With That Style, Which Is A Story/Song , So Thanks Again For Your Reaction/Interest, Don't Forget To React To Some of The R&B/Soul Songs From Back In My Day (I've Already Sent The Links Earlier In The Week, Along With More Gospel Ok

Quartet groups are really big in the South. They are known for their harmonies, story telling abilities & their color coordinated suits. My parents (married 48 years) actually met when my dad’s group & my moms group sang on the same program 💜

Tyrone, thank you for requesting this. Charlie, it was a joy watching you experience this for the first time. My mother brought this VHS in 1993 and this song reminds me of her. Like many have stated, the Canton Spirituals are gospel greatness, along with The Williams Brothers, The Gospel Keynotes and The Evereadys. I saw them live last night for the first time. You should listen to their song "Hallelujah Square". Also, if you like unique gospel voices check out "Think of His Goodness" by The Evereadys. Jerome Williams will blow your mind.

First of all, that brotha was PLAYING THAT GUITAR like nobody’s business! Lead singer was handling that song like a master. For instance, he said “if y’all don’t mind” three different ways. Lol. , Also, the dad was workin’ that falsetto! Then going back and forth to growling. Classic old school gospel. I used to hear this on the radio when I was a teenager but never saw them perform. What a treat! P.S. I heard you singing Charlie, you were sounding good there brotha. Lol

Yes, Canton Spirituals, Jackson Southernires, Lee Williams, Williams Brothers, Willie Banks (God is Still in Charge). All great groups.
They are pioneers here in the south they paved the way for gospel singers like myself that’s why I exist in gospel music today
Pop Watkins sang in a high falsetto. There was usually one in a southern quartet. This is the type of music both male and female groups that first came out of southern black churches. Check out singers like The Williams brothers whom the Mississippi Mass choir sprang, also singers like Albertina Walker, Pastor Shirley Ceasar, it's so many to name but these are the elders that truly praised the lord through there music ministry. I am so blessed that I am a Gen X kid that got to grow up and have those kinds of elders to show me what life was and is truly about and to be able to do it going back and forth from the city to the south in the summer.. I prefer southern living... I wish we could get back to gospel of the 70's-80's and 90's...

When Phyllis sang, she gave her all and her facial expressions often seemed to appear that she was on the verge of breaking down. Although I can't say that's not true, you may have a point. What I do know is that THERE WILL NEVER, EVER BE ANOTHER LIKE OUR DEARLY LOVED AND MISSED PHYLLIS HYMAN.
Yeah u said u never heard anyone sing like the dad. In quartet groups some of them have guys with high voices that do that high vibrato note like the dad. Might clouds of joy got a song called order my steps the guy that sings high has a insanely amazing voice similar to the dads but way better
