I'm trying to be better about using my green powder. Today I was feeling very fat from Christmas and wanted a pot of cabbage soup but we got 9" of snow so I wasn't going anywhere! So I made it from home dehydrated cabbage, celery, peppers, tomatoes and threw in some bouillon as well as home canned tomatoes. It still wasn't very 'rich' so I added a lot of green powder, powdered tomatoes and some powdered mushrooms. It is delicious now! Thank you for this series, Darcy.
This has been a great series and I'm excited to do some powders. I've only done lemon powder so far but would like to do mushroom powder and the green powder. I'm not a good veggie eater so I can see doing this to 'hide' the taste! Thanks so VERY much!
I am so obsessed with doing powders! I have only been dehydrating under a month...and I've learned SO MUCH from your channel! I made fried potatoes lastnight. And put green bell peppers powder and onion powder into them...I dont like biting into the TEXTURE of onions amd peppers lol.....at 45. 😁
You are fabulous! With each video we learn so many new things. We just started to dehydrate this fall and you have really been a great deal of inspiration and knowledge for us both. I appreciate your advice and tips for getting the most out of your dehydrator. We both look forward to next year's garden and our dehydrated treasures.
Oh Darcy, this month has been so much fun! I have enjoyed learning about everything. You are an excellent teacher. Thanks so much! I will be trying to think of any questions I have that I haven’t already asked you for the live video tomorrow. 🙏🎉
Thank you SO much for this entire series! I have learned an enormous amount from you and my confidence regarding dehydrating has definitely been raised. :)
I’m a newbie... just dehydrated my first items today. Apple rings, kiwi slices, and tomatoes. The apples (with a little sugar Andy cinnamon were DELISCIOUS!!! Thanks for your videos... this one was great. I imagine I’ll be watching them all!
Thank you so much for doing this series! I am getting a new dehydrator and am looking forward to using it to its fullest. This has been very helpful, even in ways that I never imagined.
I can't thank you enough for this series. I have picky eaters and you are a logical and pleasant solution. Thank you again and a healthy happy New Year!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. You saved this Nana from a very stressful situation . We are going for custody of our granddaughter who is a teen. Because of what she has been through all she will eat is fries, chicken nuggets, hotdogs and KD. Thanks to this video, I am going to sneak some much need fruit and veggies into her diet. In fact, I made veggie powder last night while she was sleeping and put some I her KD at lunchtime. 😈🙃.
Darcy, thank you for this series. Love it. I learn alot from you. You are a fast talker so I watch several times and enjoy. I had a home ec teacher in the 60's that taught us about spices around steaming pots. You would be a great teacher. Your family is very lucky. Happy New Year.

These have been great videos. I will continue to send people to your channel because it is so informative, especially for those just starting out. Thank you for putting this altogether in a series.

Nice video. As usual, just what I was looking for. Just got the Corso FD165 & can't wait to start some powders & dehydrated soup mixes. Your videos are the best. Thank you.
Excellent video. Great teaching. I have a lot of pumpkin and zucchini leaves in the summer. Now l know what do with it when l have trim the leaves down and eaten enough, too much bulk in the freezer Thanks so much. Keep safe
Thank you for this awesome series! I already do a lot of dehydrating but I still learned some things. I am enjoying your ebook and I think it will be a great reference for future. Happy New Year.
Excaliburs are great machines. Yes, they've had customer service issues because of Covid this year and being located in CA where they've been on lockdown on and off the entire year. But I've had mine 8+ years already - there are people who have used them for 20+ . There are plenty of machines that are good and that I would recommend for less money, but if you have the money for them, I do recommend them, too. If I was just starting out again, I probably wouldn't choose it because I could get some for a lot less that do just as well. But it is a good machine with a great warranty. www.thepurposefulpantry.com/tips-for-buying-a-dehydrator
Well done 👍👍👍 Thanks for the great series “Drycember “ So much great information inquiring minds want to know 😊 I live in a area where the power goes out often. Would it work to keep dehydrated food in vacuum sealed bags in freezer if it goes through freezing and thawing a few times. Thanks for the hard work making these video videos.
Power going out in the summer? High heat does reduce shelf-life over a long period, but dehdyrated foods shouldn't be done for storage of 4+ years - you'd need to invest in freeze-dried for that kind of storage. So I wouldn't bother wasting freezer space that way.
Finally got the cranberries dried and turned half of them into powder. I used some powder in my homemade yogurt and my hot tea this morning. YUM. Do you have other suggestions to use the cranberry powder in besides smoothies? I just received my dehydrator for Xmas and can't wait to put it to more use.
Hello, I've looked around for info on making bunny food from veggie powder with no luck. Is there a way to turn powder into a paste and re-dehydrate it into small "cakes" ??
I have an old bullet that is still working and make powders of different things. My favorite is fresh greens that I dehydrate and put in just about everything. Also, if you don't have it, find a brownie recipe that has beets in it. Never know they are there and the taste is fantastic. Do you turn the dehydrated foods before you powder them???
Do I turn them? I'm not sure what that is. If you mean condition - it depends on the food - dryer things like greens, no. I dry the powder after. I'm pretty experienced at knowing what's really dry ad what isn't, and for most vegetables, no I don't condition first, because I dry in the end. But for some things, yes I condition first.
Perfect timing! I've never dehydrated raspberries before so I figured I'd give it a try and make powder to add to water. I just took them out of freezer and put them in the trays. The temp says 135. Should I put it on lower setting?
Have you dried boiled unseasoned hamburger meat? I have after covid weirdness with taste and smell. It's been way over 8 months now. I have just recently added hamburger meat but it has to be boiled and all the juices squeezed out on lots of paper towels. It doesn't taste like the hamburger I remember but it's edible with lots of Velveta cheese with it. Can't do catsup or mayo yet. But I wondered about drying and making a hamburger powder. Is that do able? How would it be done?
It's not something I would recommend unless you plan on storing it in the freezer. Proteins can turn rancid on the shelf. I prefer freeze dried proteins for their greater shelf-stability.
No - because I don't have a problem with moisture in them (I don't open them over the stove, green and veg don't clump), and they are rotated through so often I don't bother. For things I don't use as often or are very prone to moisture, I use moisture absorbers to control moisture which vacuum sealing doesn't do.
I hate eating vegetables probably because I also have a texture issue. I am certainly going to make vegetable powder to get my veggies after watching your videos. Would it be ok on a steak? I grill and smoke meat a lot but again, hate veggies. I want to trick myself into eating healthier with the powders.
It would be good on steak, but won't flavor the same way other spices and herbs do. But you could definitely mix it with some seasonings and get the added nutrition. But start putting it into everything you cook - into taco meat, onto eggs, etc. You'll begin to get built-up nutrition. It shouldn't replace daily nutrition, but enhance it.
You cannot really make it. That pie is made from lemon juice, not whole lemon - which is what lemon powder is. If you opt to dry lemon juice, you can, but you'll have to measure the juice first, then after it is dry to know the ratio of what you would need at that point. lemon powder is full of fiber, not juice, and even adding water back into it makes it not juice, if that makes sense.
@@ThePurposefulPantry What if I put them in a little hot water at first and then add them to my room temperature water? Will the hot water help dissolve the powder?
Sure - but I find it's less messy in the oven. Use coffee filters, jars with cheesecloth on top, a bowl, etc., to help keep the powder contained. And remember - let the fan come to a complete stop before opening your machine up to check the powder, or it will be everywhere.
First, of all I just want to say that you are very knowledgeable and you make great easy to follow videos. However, there is a difference between the carbs in fruit and the carbs in a donut. All carbs are not created equal. Having said that keep doing what you do because your videos are awesome.
That's not the point. The carbs in fruit stay the same when dehydrated, but in a more concentrated amount. So those that do count have to make sure they take that into consideration - they can't eat a handful of dehydrated pineapple the way they eat a handful of fresh pineapple.
Not sure what last 2 you are speaking of? If they were lives, those were probably notifications of some of the tests we were doing since I was unfamiliar with the live feature on YT.

Do you do cabbage? Do you put the purple cabbage in the veggie powder or the green powder?

What’s a moisturizer absorber
Some blenders fit mason jars so you don't have to dirty up your blender cup.
Since you are using your powders often do you remove all the air from the jars after each use?

Just wondering why wouldn’t you just freeze vegetables,,instead of dehydrating ,,just curious,,great video
Freezer could die, can't make powders out of frozen veg, long-term food storage that is shelf-stable and doesn't require electricity, etc.
Have you ever made powder from butter? I want to make some but don’t have a clue how. Thanks
Butter is not recommended to dehydrate - purchase the commercial version instead.
@@ThePurposefulPantry Oh wow! Thank you as I had no idea.
Question: can you use the powder to make baby food .
Yes, just make sure to get it to a thin enough consistency - too thick and it can cause problems.
Can you dehydrate leftover canned vegetables
Yes, but they aren't great to rehydrate as side dishes on their own. They are better in something or as powder, to me.
