  • It's been a while since we've seen XC hardtails on the cross country world cup scene, but it's no wonder because XC full-suspension bikes can way no more than a kilo more.

I think we need to stop basing things on what World Cup racers are doing. Honestly, they are going to ride whatever their sponsors give them to ride. If a manufacturer wants them to ride their latest full suspension model, then that's what they will ride.
Most highly skilled sponsored riders I have met know very little about bikes. Ask them detailed questions and they won't know the answer. Sure, a few of them will, but most of them don't.
So we really should be talking about and marketing bikes for the average rider out there who isn't doing World Cup races.

Hardtails aren’t fitting into the market segment that they used to.
Because MTB is now mainly focused on rocky, rooty descending full suss bikes are the MTB choice.
For people who just want to ride a bike with average skill level off road gravel bikes are a more efficient and more appealing choice than a draggy hardtail.

Haha I ride a single speed hard tail on some of the rowdiest trails. My times are actually faster in it than my full sus. It's lighter and more fun to huck around. My guess is riders with less technical ability fund xc full sus faster.
