I was determined not to be an armchair safety officer but watching you operate a lathe with gloves on took away any pleasure I had with the otherwise great job.
Getting cut by the strings of metal was a certainty, so I took my changes with the gloves. Thanks for watching!
I've worked lathes etc. for years and never been cut with swarf yet, across the back of the hand with the cutting tool maybe a few times, lol.
However I do know of one guy where I worked go into a lathe by wearing gloves, he survived because the alloy was not bar tight in the chuck to avoid damage, the chuck slipped when the job stalled after he was drawn in by his glove.
Bear in mind when you go into a lathe you go under and between the bed and work piece, your arm tendons wrap around and get ripped from your chest.
Hui 9697 i have once get a really deep cut bcause of the metal strings ; my finger won't stop bleeding that time hehe.... but i never wear a glove bcause my technical training officer will kill me if i do.

Nice job! I do agree that GLOVES are DANGEROUS. I former co worker had a stringy chip pull his leather glove into the workpiece. He soon became "double jointed" in a bad way.

Most DROs have a "1/2" function. Find one side of the work with the edge finder, zero the scale, find the other edge, then press the "1/2" button. That divides the displayed value by 2. The "zero" position is now located half way between the edges. Saves needing to use a calculator to find the mid points of holes and rounds....
Nice job I sure hope you have your eye sight or you where glasses . I'V seen others use endmills on a mill your method looks a lot easer . I'm going to make a 2'' one one of these days . JM

Enjoyed watching your work. But after the welding, there was probably a bit of cleanup we missed. And I would have liked to have seen the bender put to work.

@@glassglowz yes I did see it was at least a 3 year old video and I did try to see the cutter in detail when watching but the camera never did get a close up shot of it. Anyway it was at least worth a try. Good job on the cutter but the way it did a real good job with no charred and cut perfect.

At 3:20 he is wearing safety glasses. When you see him not wearing them he is using an edge finder to set up the drilling process...guarantee he is wearing safety glasses for the rest of the process.
I'm always amused about the number of comments about safety glasses in this video. You're exactly correct in that I took them off to use the edge finder. I never run my machines without glasses. I'm even using ear protection now days to help prevent my tinnitus from worsening. Take care and thanks for watching!
Wondering what your cost is vs JD2 for compatible dies (model 32 bender)... or even dies for the HF radius roller (like swagoffroad offers)...

Use safety glasses.
If the HSS break into pieces (at high rpm), it could hurt your eyes so much.
You don't see it in the video, but I'm always wearing safety glasses when I'm machining.

+kleini3 it's a common error people make to wear gloves on a lathe if it catches your lucky to come out with a broken finger and wrist
+stanley carter It was that or get sliced up and burnt by the stringers, so I took my chances with the gloves.

Excellent work fella. Rather than cut it in half and get a 90 degree bend, why not cut 1/4 and leave the rest for 180 degrees?
yeah, I guess I could have. Much easier to just cut the die in half though.

I was with you until you got on the milling machine. Don't have one. Junk ones are expensive in the midwest. I'm sunk.
What are you using as a lubricant? Looks like flood coolant?
+Shawn Lund yeah I think that's what I used.
+glassglowz you should give an oil lubricant a try. Without actually flooding the tool and material the coolant isn't that useful. It's lubricating properties aren't very good and if you are using carbide it can actually thermal shock the tool.

+glassglowz I think people want to see you wear safety glasses all the time. Even in the shower, while sleeping, or when feeding your goldfish. Maybe you should make a safety video as to when safety glasses should be worn, and when they do not need to be worn.

Obviously you don't value your limbs too much. Always wear safety glasses and NEVER EVER EVER wear gloves around rotating equipment.
