For the bread bits - would your kids eat like a french toast bake? Mix eggs and milk and cinnamon. Put cut up bread pieces in a greased casserole, then cover with eggs mixture and put in the fridge overnight. Bake it in the morning until it is firm. Serve with syrup.
That was one of my thoughts to try. Would you believe I have never made them french toast? 😲 We ate it regularly growing up, but since I have one daughter who is not a bread fan, I have stuck to pancakes. But I think these crusts are a perfect reason to make french toast bake!
Stay tuned! I need to go through my toiletries and non-perishable stockpile to inventory and restock, so will have a video on that at some point this summer!
Wow, you are sure brought home the bacon, Kristen! That has to be a great feeling to have full freezers! The ham steaks can be grilled, you can dice them for omelettes or quiche, or use for breakfast/ brunch.
😂 Quite literally brought home the bacon! Good one! 😉 Good ideas for the ham steak! I tried making one in the air fryer this week with just a bit of butter and brown sugar and was amazed how easy and tasty it was. I liked that it was the perfect amount of ham for a meal or two without tons of leftovers!
I have a bunch of ends of bread in the freezer we use to make croutons and breadcrumbs with eventually😊 We love ham steaks!! Growing up, my parents would just fry them in a little butter or bacon fat and serve with mashed potatoes and green beans. Today, i either do that or dice them up for breakfast tacos, burritos, omelettes etc.. I also use them for flavor in beans or soups if i am out of bacon or i don't have any ham bones saved. So versatile. And delicious! Congrats on your new hog😊🐷 I'd be dancing (you looked like you wanted to) 😂😂👍🙏 love your videos!!! Thank you!!!💚💚💚
I was about ready to break out into a dance! 😂🥳☺️ Good tips on the ham steak! I actually am not a huge ham person but tried cooking one in the air fryer this week with butter and a bit of brown sugar and it was really good! Makes me excited to cook with the rest of them! 😁
I save up all my crusts and dry pieces of bread and dry them out in a low temp in oven on cookie sheets-flip when one side is dry. When done, grind into breadcrumbs in your food processor. Store in airtight jar. I use breadcrumbs in my meatloaf and meatballs.
Great deal on the pork! I bought a half of a beef almost 3 years ago and I was disappointed in the price/lb but it was good beef from a nice family, 3rd generation ranchers. But I haven't been able to make it make sense for my food budget to purchase one again. We don't have a lot of meat on hand right now. Ground beef , a few whole chickens, chicken breasts and fish. Next good sale for our city should be in October.
That's how I have felt. I know the price per pound might be okay for the roasts and steaks but when we mainly eat hamburger, it seems to be very expensive hamburger. Sooo, I am not wholly convinced either. But when I can support our school and fill our freezer? That I will do! 🙌
Homemade Breadcrumbs with the left over bread crusts! Thanks for sharing. Happy Summer meanwhile Winter is well and truly here in the Southern Hemisphere. Hehe. God Bless, Love Bel xxx
Make cubes for dressing or stuffing some call it. Abd bread crumble that you can store in the freezer. Bread cubes you can dry them out and use them up or store them in the freezer❤
You can make your own panko breadcrumbs with all the crusts. Just spread them out and let them completely dry out, then whir them through the blender until they are panko sized crumbs. Way cheaper than store bought panko! Season any way you want, or leave them plain.
I've heard you can use breadcrumbs in baked goods recipes like cake but have never tried. If you do this, pls share in a future video. Great score on the pork! Thanks for the video!
Ham steaks - you could use like a lean bacon and grill it up. Easy meals could include ham, egg and potatoes like fries, doing a hot style sandwich, salads, snacks etc. it is salty like ham etc
you got an amazing deal on 1/2 a hog!! It would cost more than twice that in my area! On your bread crusts, before the weather gets too hot to bake, you could use them to make either a bread pudding (chocolate is my favorite!) or a French toast casserole breakfast, that will clear out some space in the freezer nicely. Enjoy all your pork!
Chocolate bread pudding. Yes! I am going to have to give that a try and see how the kids like that. They will probably like that way more than the stuffing I usually make with bread crumbs! 😂 And yes! I would have gone up to $400 or $500 for the pork too. I was surprised the bidding stopped where it did! 🤷♀️
I love organizing. You did great. 👍 We just had a new 6ft Frigidaire freezer 20 cubic ft delivered from Costco (we got on memorial day sale) & I spent a few hours organizing it. 😊 I thought of you as I was counting all my butter. I have 34 lbs!! More than I thought. 😅
Yay for a new freezer! 🥳🙌🥰 And 34 lbs of butter? That's awesome too! I'm honored it made you think of me! 😍 I hope the freezer will save you lots of money as you fill it with all the good deals you find!
@joyfullythriving thanks! I've done this for years but have gleaned a lot of great tips from you. 🥰 This is actually our 2nd upright freezer. Lol 😅 I love it though because the new one is now only for butter, meat, cheeses only. 🧀 🍖 🥓 🥩 🧈 keep things easier to find. I used dollar tree bigger square bins for each shelf and each type of meat. All the butter was 2 shelves on the door. And I just bought three 5lb bags of cheeses from Sams that I need to baggie up today to freeze. 👍
@@Sandrashideaway I absolutely LOVE that you have 2 upright freezers! My someday goal as well! Love that you have them divided for specific purposes too! Happy freezing!
I cut up all my extra bread in cubes so they are ready for croutons, breadcrumbs or stuffing cubes. It is totally great to use up all the bread and grind them up for free breadcrumbs all the time. I need to clean out my upstairs freezer because it is a mess.
Isn't it sadly amazing how quickly freezers become a mess again? I am trying to stay more on top of it this year! And yes. Stuffing is my go to but my kids don't really like stuffing...yet! 😉 But they do like croutons so I might try that this time around!
You could use bread crust for French toast casserole, or even the old-fashioned egg casserole my grandma makes :) I can send you the recipes I use if you're interested.
I wish I could get my family to eat egg casserole! I love it! Sadly, they do not. We are going to try french toast casserole though and see how they like that!
I tried that - and sadly, the rest of my family didn't care for it, as much as I did. But I learned that they do like homemade croutons so that is what I have started doing with all my crusts!
Bread pudding, croutons, or breadcrumbs.
Croutons! How did I forget about that?!?! Nathan is loving croutons right now. Great idea!

Cherry Bread Pudding with Coconut Ice Cream ❤
Oh...that sounds AMAZING! 😍
Great stock up. Congratulations on a beautiful full freezer
Thank you! It does feel like quite an accomplishment! 🥳
I love all your grocery hauls and meat stock ups. I'd love to see your hauls and budget for non-food items too like paper products and toiletries etc.
Stay tuned! I need to go through my toiletries and non-perishable stockpile to inventory and restock, so will have a video on that at some point this summer!

You can put the bread crust in a food dehydrator and make bread crumbs. I use mine for making meat loaf
Hmm! Never thought about dehydrating bread crumbs! So many things to try!

Great idea! I hadn't thought of drying them out first!
French toast casserole is a delicious way to use up odds and ends on bread pieces
Good idea!
I worked at a restaurant and the owner used all the bread crusts for bread pudding,it was one of her best sellers
Wow. That's amazing! I am definitely going to give bread pudding a try. You weren't the only one suggesting it!

Bread crumbs or French toast casserole with the bread ends❤️
Good ideas!
We use crusts and all bread to make dressing out of it.
I love stuffing (or dressing) but sadly my kids do not...yet!

I've heard you can use breadcrumbs in baked goods recipes like cake but have never tried. If you do this, pls share in a future video.
Great score on the pork! Thanks for the video!
That is an interesting use of bread crumbs. I am going to have to research that one!
I love your videos and this was a nice one .😊
Thank you! 😊

Hey 👋 friend great vlog again I would use extra bread pieces make croutons
Nathan does love croutons! I am definitely going to have to do that!
Leftover bread crust can be made into homemade croutons or breadcrumbs
I just made croutons tonight! My son is loving them!
Bread pudding or French toast casserole

Thanks so much! 🥰
Definitely do Croutons or breadcrumbs. I do them often on. my channel. Soon as I feel 1 bag I process them to get it out of my frog/freezer. 😊
I will have to check out your video because croutons is on my list to try!
Love your channel! Use your crusts for croutons.
Thank you! I am going to make croutons tomorrow!!
❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you, Terry! 🥰
The bread ends you could toast them and make bread crumbs or croutons .

Make bread pudding with that crust

Make your own bread crumbs
I will have to try that!
Ham steaks are great on the grill.
Ohhh. I will have to try that! I did one in thr air fryer and that was good. I will try the grill next time!
French toast casserole or homemade stiuffing
Homemade stuffing is my favorite use for breadcrumbs...if I could just get my kids to like it! 😂
