Had the same experience in Hongkong airport about 12 years ago. White people were allowed but few Indians, Vietnamese and Arab were taken to some other room for "further checking". Basically asked same question again and again for 2hrs by immigration officers who could not speak english. They could not even read hotel booking details. Since it was my first flight I was scared shitless and it was a business visit. Finally an educated officer came and read the booking details and allowed me in. Next worst experience was in Washington airport, USA. Immigration officer was rude and standing like police officer from 80s C-grade bollywood movie. He checked my documents and said my name does not appear in the list and cannot let me inside the country. I was an experienced traveller (not like travellers now), so I simply told him that if you cannot let me in then deport me. I am here on official visit and would never visit US for personal visit. That shocked him, he looked at me for a minute and just put the stamp and said go ahead. Only advise to travellers is to check country official website and adhere to all rules and have all documents with you.

I am a dark brown skinned South Asian Canadian, carrying a Canadian passport. I traveled to Cape verde smoothly 2 times, no issues. I traveled to over 40 countries including several Central American, South American and African and European countries, and never had any issue. Immigraiton went smoothly. It has nothing to do with skin color or being South Asian. It is about your citizenship and passport. India is a poor country overall, despite a large economy. Many Haryanvi and Punjabis use other countries to jump off to Europe to migrate illegally. Indian government is the one who told them to get stricter. Officers are doing their job. It is their duty to check you thoroughly. You always get into fights with locals and government officials in different countries including Cambodia. Such actions only makes them disrespect Indians more. North Indian attitudes need to change.

Hello Bro, my feedback may look little bit hash but this is what happens in reality. First of all you are doing international travel with chappls?. The fist impression is the best impression. If the immigration officers notices that you don't even wearing proper shoes then there are high chances that they would become suspicious. Secondly when we travel abroad we need to show the Hotel reservation, return flight ticket, health insurance and sufficient funds (we can either have printed documents or soft copies). You can't tell the immigration officers that you will not show the bank balance. They ask these documents just to make sure that you have enough funds to cover your trip. If you (I mean anybody traveling abroad) do not have sufficient funds then it will be a big burden for the local government and/or on the airlines also. They need to negotiate with the Indian government to send us back. Thats why they will be strict on this. Coming to the discrimination part it happens most of the time. Instead of arguing and questioning them on why they let others (white skin etc etc) go, it is better to keep our composure and reply with smile. Then next time if any Indian goes there they start giving respect to us.
