Glen I would suggest you purchase a Block Plane with an adjustable mouth. The plane can be sett for a very fine cut and the mouth is adjusted up to the plane edge leaving a very small gap, this helps to brake the wood fibres and give ultra thin shavings. The block plane blades are sett at a lower angle and the bevel side facing upwards. Block planes are excellent for shaving end grain, you will get a neater finish than you will with a saw and easier than using a chisel. There are probably tutorial videos out there showing block planes. Hope you find this useful.
Thanks for that. I now have some finger planes for graduating plates, but not a block plane. Haven't instaled a neck since this one. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that I sure don't know much. Great learning experiences. Something new and better every day! Also, thanks for watching.
