    Good morning Danny,
    I just love it when you become Sherlock Homes and try to figure out what wrong with the orchids. I learn so much from your analysis and deductions from the case, “Lady Homes.”
    “Chinese New Year” is coming up. (Jan. 22. Year of the “Rabbit” 🐇wanted to wish you and your husband an “Blessed Chinese New Year.”)🙏🐇🧧🧨
    Take Care and Be Safe.

    The bellina issue sounds similar to the schilleriana issue or am I mistaken? This video was much needed. I love your "icu" to renewed health type stories, they so feel good.

    I have a phal 'Mini-Mark Holm' seedling, that arrived as three plants together. The center one didn't make it, so I removed it and hoped for the best for the other two. They're both putting out new leaves and it looks like I'll have a twin 'Mini-Mark Holm'. I've never heard of a seedling making keikis, but somehow this happened for me.

    Hi Danny, thank you for the update. I’m not sick of the tolumnias because now I have 3 babies!! I got a mystery seedling bundle from a grower on Etsy and I didn’t have any of the 10 they sent me for a ridiculously low price. It was so exciting!

    Hi Danny, I'm so impressed with the kaki on your bellina, as one of your forever fans, I know how much you had patience with your bellina with virus and everything else she went through, well done finally a gorgeous looking bellina! ! By the way I got a bulbophyllum recently and repotted it your way, hope it grows well for me! Fingers crossed! Thanks for sharing and happy growing.

    Hi Danny! Thanks for the Neo update. I live in the USA with four seasons and still have a hard time growing. They grow so slow. I was lucky to have a bean leaf variety bloom but lost her to rot last summer. Too humid and I grow indoors. Moss mounds are also a problem. The joys of orchids. I still love Neos. Have a great day.

    Just want to say I really appreciate your videos. My mom tend to buy grocery phal but they did not consistently flower and some even die off until I started watching your videos and interfere with the care. Now, she's enjoying them with all the flowers blooming right now. :)
    I may have missed it but do you have any videos about how to separate keikis from mother parents especially when it is a crown keiki?
    I hope you continue sharing your collection and spread them beautiful orchids!.

    I'm looking for your aquarium channel but can't find it.
    I live in the Pacific Northwest and belong to both the Northwest Orchid Society and the Greater Seattle Aquarium Society (for which I chair our monthly auctions). I love seeing what others who share my passions are doing. I will admit that if I had to choose between fish or orchids that the fish would win, any day of the week, but I still love orchids. But I still want to see your tanks!

    Hi Danny,
    Been a fan of your channel for some time. I can relate to your neo issues. I have had a neo for about three years and it only bloomed back in 2021. I live in a tropical climate so I doubt it has much to do with the environment but I could be wrong. I’m testing a theory which is to stop fertilization through the “winter”months and reduce watering until spring/summer. Then I’ll start flooding it with water and feeding again. I believe that’s why it may have bloomed for me but we’ll see.

    The little orchid you think is dying then take her out of the pot and hang her in a clear pot of water without the roots touching the water. Some dont like the stuff we pot them in and like to go nekkid.

    I have a beautiful neo, that's always putting out roots and leaves, no flowers or flower spikes, even with 5+ fans. I have a Neostylis growing a flower spike though. Similar to you. I have a hot, humid environment and my neo won't bloom either.

    About a month ago I saved an orchid. It was so dry the leaves were wrinkled. Got it home, out of the pot and soaked for about a day. cleaned up the roots. I placed it over some water in a clear vase for the humidity. Yesterday I took it down to take a look at her and she has a flower spike!! Leaves are still wrinkled but firm. The roots are not pretty but also firm. People are telling me to remove the spike since it may suck the energy out of the orchid. they havent been right about anything else for the care of this sick plant. What do you think I should do?

      @@spider46531 It sounds like you are doing all the right things. My amateur recommendation is you can either leave it where it is or pot it with moss and bark. I just brought home a couple of orchids in exact same condition; they just had a good soak and now are in vases drying out. I'll be potting them in a few days. Crossing fingers.

      Is this a phalaenopsis? If so, it is better to place it in a sphagnum moss. Not compacted, but fluffy, so that even air can reach the roots. Moss also disinfects and works against rotting. It creates an ideal environment for the roots and protects them.
      Give it light, ideally 12 hours a day, and a temperature of at least 20°C (however, for faster root and leaf growth in a weakened orchid, preferably 23°C or more) and not hard water.
      The flower stalk was expelled by the orchid due to stress. It wants to preserve the family, so puts all its strength into reproduction, because its thinks that its herself might not survive, so at least its children. If you let it bloom, it might survive, phalaenopsis are hardy.
      But you run the risk that it will be completely exhausted or sick (this will become apparent only after flowering). And it will certainly extend the healing time and the possibility of growth (orchids usually do not grow during flowering). If you absolutely want to see flowering, leave only the lower one flower. But it is better to cut off the whole spike now so that it will bloom from full health earlier.
      I wish you much success. 🙂

    Hello! I have an orchid problem at hand.. you see i LOVE oncidiums, and i make sure to repot every single one into an airy yet moist medium once i retrieve them. However literally every oncidium i’ve had until now have just lost all of their loots and ended up in the ICU chamber :( is this normal? That they lose all the roots once u repor? Maybe the roots werent good enough to withstand the stress of a repot? Eitherway i can’t help but feel like they wouldve probabøy not been in this bad of a condition if i had just left it to grow a bit healthier in the medium it came with..
    But again then there’s the pest issue so i really wanna avoid that since i don’t know what’s in there. Do you have any tips for me? I even cut the flower spike on most of them because they simply did not have an adequate root system

      I leave bulbous orchids in the old substrate. They don't like replanting. When I transplanted them after the purchase, the roots turned brown and did not work very well (the bulbs dried up). Now, after buying, I leave them in the original pot until they grow new bulbs. Once those new bulbs start growing roots, I'll repot them. New roots adapt better to the change.
      However, it is necessary to carefully monitor the plants for pests after purchase. As soon as something doesn't seem right to me, I prefer to dump the flower pot. Sometimes there are snails inside, and they will eat the new roots and sprouts of the bulbs. It is necessary to watch the sprouts of roots and new bulbs, if they are not bitten.

      @igf_d4189 Рік тому

      @@popelnice5819 Thank you! And yes that is my main concearn... because literally every oncidium i buy comes with snails. So then it's rather tricky to not repot it and get rid of them or? What do you do then? Just monitor the roots and pick off any snails u may see?

    • @popelnice5819
      @popelnice5819 Рік тому +1

      @@igf_d4189 I only have 2 Oncidiums. They both had snails, so I transplanted them both. One has been in the emergency room for about half a year, but it will probably die, it still has no roots and new bulbs. The second is better. After transplanting, its roots turned brown and the bulbs had wrinkles, but after half a year, a new bulb started growing with new roots and it is already hydrated again.
      I also have some Brassia, Zygopetalum, Cambria... I preferred to leave them in the original substrate until the new bulbs grow. But I didn't find any snails with them, so they were fine.
      If I were buying a new Oncidium, I wouldn't transplant it. I would submerge it in water for several hours up to the surface of the substrate (to drown the snails). Before pulling out, I would carefully inspect the leaves to see if anything from the substrate had climbed onto them. In the evening, I would place a slice of cucumber on the substrate near the bulbs. And in the morning I'll check if it's gnawed. And I would watch the orchid carefully for a few more days.
      Please excuse my English, I only speak a little.

      @@popelnice5819 hmmm yeah that could definitely be a good strategy! Thank you so much, I hope my oncidiums in the ICU revive.. all if not most have a teeny tiny new growth at least so i just hope it produces roots. Oncidiums are not that common here in Norway so it sucks losing them. Sadly most of them comes with the damn snails, guess i’ll just have to keep a close eye! Thank you again
