I gotta say the "Let me guess: BLUE" one had me rolling ^^
That was a profound line. The funniest one to me was when Red splashed him with that big wave and he said " Oh bloody hell"😂😂
I mean, they weren’t wrong. Humans had a reason to fear the beasts. Finally, after years of torment, they rose up against them. Heroes died. The beast split a ship in half, and killed many. They had families. The beast brainwashed two people, enslaving them, and manipulating them to free it. It was let loose upon the world.
Because heroes share meat.

The little girl's hair looks great, the animators did a good job making it look natural
Yeah but they forgot to pack a hair pick. 😱
That's what I was thinking the whole movie, like everyone's hair was so detailed and it was so mesmerizing just to stare at it, especially the girl's hair and the firstmate's (sarah sharpe). When it comes to animation you don't often see such detail in those hair types because they're more intricate then type 1 and type 2 hair but this movie did such an amazing job with it, I was stunned!

This movie was stunning. Best animated adventure I have seen in years. Netflix definitely has an Oscar coming its way for "Best Animated Feature" at next years Academy Awards.
It has one of the most precocious but adorable little lead ever ("I expect to speak to Captain Now and not Captain Someday/Maybe'" literally had me busting my gut from laughing so much) and I also loved that the big hero was not a bumbling idiot but a skilled warrior who actually cares about the world around him and the little charge he suddenly finds himself having to look after.
The Sea Beast was incredibly well written, gorgeously animated and shot (with action sequences to rival any live action film) with some incredible world building (I expect a part 2 pronto) and a lovely message to part the kids with about how heroes can also get things wrong and to question traditional hatreds because there is usually an agenda behind those beliefs. Biggest surprise film of the year for me. Well done Netflix more of this please!
I'd love to agree with you on the oscar bit but we both know it's just gonna go to a Disney project. The lightyear probably

@@frankypappa You so lame
This was such a good movie, even for adults - it really hits the emotions.
I shed a tear at the end, it was beautiful
I really have to say it. This was one of the best movies I have seen. World building , story an the characters where phenomenal but what made it for me is its critical look on how history shapes our world. The whole world finds no easy answers to hard questions and I love that.
Only thing I would criticise is that the end feels a bit rushed. But maybe because I want a second movie with the main characters becoming montsterexplorers :)
This comment really touches on what I am thinking. When history is not just about the past event but it can be a narrative justifying someone to do something even become a dictator. There are many things that happened in the past but it depends on how you fabricate the story to serve a particular regime.
Yeeeees.
A whole bunch of this is really good for me. I like the whole vibe the film is setting with it seeming alot more serious in tone, the leads both seem like good characters (not playing into the stereotypes you'd tend to get in an animated kids adventure film, like making the guy into a sexist moron).
I think my one issue is how cartoony the sea monster designs seem to be. They're all so smooth and undetailed. Even the ones that I feel were meant to be scary look kinda cute, the big yellow one is a good example. The fact the human designs are (fairly) detailed and realistic also makes this even more noticeable for me, like they don't fit at all. I get that it's a kids movie so they're never gonna make them absolutely horrifying, wound covered, monsters, but maybe something like how httyd animates dragons would have been nice? Dragons like toothless in those films manage to do a great job of looking cool and intimidating but also looking cute, meanwhile something like the red death in the first film is terrifying yet still keeps a somewhat cartoonish design.
I agree. They look like they're fighting gummy bear monsters which is kind of silly, but it's a cool looking movie regardless
I agree about the monsters. however, I also think that there's a purpose to it. like how Toothless was made comical but fierce at the same time and then in the end of the movie, we finally figured out that the humans were the actual bad guys. seeing the cutesy beasts makes me think that there's a twist waiting to happen and I'm all for it
I think possibly anything in the right context can be terrifying. If the animators manage to pull of something mysterious and ominous as an introduction, and a good pace, once the viewer is attached to the characters it would be a genuinely scary experience, which is what they do so well in httyd, with the weather, the tone of the characters and the backgrounds.
@@astroaxolotl8864 That's actually a really interesting point. Honestly if this movie is anything like httyd I'll probably love it, so tbh regardless of the designs I'm 100% all there for it (the soundtrack sounds amazing as well). This is just the first trailer as well so we'll see how they end up utilising the designs in the actual movie.
I know, the design of the sea monsters could use a little... monsteriness...
Father-daughter dynamics are strong with this one...I can't wait to experience some feels xD

this might be the best animated movie i've seen in YEARS. the animation was the first thing that drew me in; from the first moment of the clip on netflix i fell in love with the character design, setting, and frankly INSANE amount of detail that went into every single visual. the characters are SO incredibly well-written and *so* funny; i burst out laughing so many times, which isn't something a lot of movies get me to do. this movie was an absolute blast and i would recommend it endlessly to everyone i possibly can.

@@elainethomas9737 I guess we should look to Africans & people of African descent for that. Europeans have played their part. After all they aren't white. What do you think?
@@mr.guzwee7695 Did the trailer specifically state that this little girl is "African?" (Serious question, and I mean no disrespect. I just wasn't sure if I missed that part somewhere based on your comment.) Otherwise, while I agree with your general sentiment, let's be mindful that not _all_ Black people are of "African" descent or have ancestors that trace their roots from the African continent. I am a Black _aboriginal_ American whose Black Ancestors are *INDIGENOUS* to the Americas and have *NO* ties to Africa. There are _also_ Afro-Latinos who are *INDIGENOUS* to South America and Mexico, with NO TIES to Africa. We did NOT arrive here on "slave ships". _Some_ did, but not the vast majority of us. Many Jamaicans will even tell you that their ancestors actually came from _Ireland_ (and many still carry those Irish surnames today).
It's kind of like how all Asians *DO NOT* come from China. An American of Korean descent described how frustrated he was that his co-workers kept mislabeling him as "Chinese", ignorantly assuming that because he was "Asian" he _must_ have automatically come from China... these people completely ignore the fact that there are MANY different Asian countries out there _in addition_ to China -Japan, Korea, Thailand, The Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan, etc- not to mention the fact that he CONSTANTLY reminded them DAILY that he was KOREAN. It's the same for Black people. This little girl might even be a native European. (yes, there _are_ Blacks who are indigenous to the European continent, unfortunately they are automatically mislabeled as being "of African descent".
I want to stress that there is NOTHING wrong with being of African descent; for those that are, this is *GREAT* for them, and they should be PROUD of their ancestry and heritage. I am ALSO proud of my heritage...but as an _Indigenous American._ (No, we Indigenous Black Americans are NOT related to the Siberian Asians whom are called Native Americans, today. They actually came to the continent AFTER we had already been here for generations. Many of their elders even tell stories of how there were _already a people here_ when they arrived.

Definitely a smart move Netflix is finally putting their movies in theaters, but still waiting for them to show how serious they are with the quality of their films by releasing one in all theaters and not immediately onto the streaming site.
Agreed. Looks so good! I can’t wait 💛
They did that with the reboot of shaft. Except they didn't put it on their streaming service afterwards.
They’ll do it with Knives Out 2.
I think it depends on how they think it would maximize their earning. They'll lose some money depending on how many movies as well as how long the movie stays in theater. Also they have to consider the Academy Awards as well. The Academy's rule states that movies have to be in theater for a minimum number of days in order for it to be considered. They waived that rule during the pandemic but they reinstated it. So big movies that have good chance at the Award will probably go to theater first.
The smart thing about this is that indirectly you are selling subscriptions. If people get confronted with the option 15-20€ + food (total 30-40€) per person in the teather OR netflix at home for 8-15€ (for a WHOLE MONTH with the whole netflix catalogue available) people are most likely going to choose that. A good amount might even keep the subscription up.
This is actually so exciting I’ve always thought that Netflix should put their movies in theaters and I believe this is the first time this happening. Very excited what other Netflix movies get the Theater treatment because there is a few in the past that really deserved it.
Netflix puts all of their Oscar contenders in the theaters for a limited run in at least NY and LA. Roma and The Irishman were in theaters. I think The Irishman was in a handful of cities, could be wrong, though.
@@deenaprice1524 isn't that like one of requirements for Oscar contenders, that the movies need to have a theatrical release? I could be wrong.

What interests me about this movie (besides the incredible animation and the beautiful character and setting design) is that it is apparently not aimed just for children compared to recent animated films.
Exactly, I'd love to see more animations like this in the future. It's what made films like Atlantis, Sinbad and El Dorado so timeless.

Hey that looks really solid. Much better than any CGI animated movies in the past few years. I also think a setting like this feels really fresh. Despite it's popularity, there aren't that many pirate or sea adventure movies that the market feel oversaturated.
Looks wonderful. I'm getting more hyped for animation movies than live action ones. This is the next best thing after Pirates of the Carribean :D
Yeeeees?
I was surprised by how much I liked this movie. One of my favorites of the year.
This is the best kids movie I have watched. Even better graphics than Disney movies, the story, the characters and the plot is awesome. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. I hope they make 2nd part of this movie.
i always think .a movie like this is what i need, when i became a father and my imagination wanted to go back to being a child
Wow the animation looks incredible, can't wait to watch!
Yo this movie is actually good
I can't wait to watch! This looks adventurous and super adorable. I also want to give props to the character designers for creating a little brown girl with cute fluffy natural hair! It's so great to see!
Can’t wait to see this!!! The little girl is so cute and the animation for the hair is so good 👌🏾.
This looks so good I would actually see this in a theater but even better that it will be on Netflix
