Staying healthy will be the biggest thing. Jack, Nico, and Douggie have all had injury issues over the last 3-4 years. Some were just freak accidents.
The last time the Devils got a coach from Toronto they won the Cup the year they got him...the legendary Pat Burns in 2003!
well, he did coach in Toronto but I believe Burns was with Boston after that
Traveling from Kansas to NJ for my first Devils Home Game Oct 17 vs Washington. Can't WAIT! LETS GO DEVILS!!!
Heck yeah man!!! You always been a devils fan out there in Kansas? How did that happen?
Started watching hockey in the mid 90s and Stevens and Brodeur got me hooked. My older brother played hockey in California so I loved the sport already. My 5 year old now plays hockey here in Kansas, which is still hard to come by. I’m raising him a Devils fan too.
Injuries were devastating last year. They should bounce back and make the playoffs. They might even have home ice advantage in the first round.
With an injury free season, I could see these guys being a problem for the rest of the teams.
The addition of Keefe will make a huge difference. The offense will cook.
The defense & the bottom 6 got a lot bigger & beefier.
If Markstrom can get rolling, NJ will be a scary scary team.
with keefe they'll lose R1G7.
@@doaftheloaf NJ aint the lowly Leafs bro.
@@yoholmes273 no, but they hired their coach.
@@doaftheloafLEafs STUNK for nearly half a century before Keefe got there. Keefe turned this crap team in to a perennial playoffs team.
Not Keefes fault his team had no cojones.
Agree but it was not long ago, you were complaining how terrible the new players added were that they were scrubs that could not score. How terrible a GM Fitz is. Did you change your mind or were you just trolling then?
I like it when THG is a subtle troll toward the Leafs.. Go Devils!
Let’s go Devils!
Complete opposite
🫡 💪
been a devils fan since the late 80s, very excited for this season.
Going to Prague for both games. Ready for great hockey, tasty food and arguably best beer in the world.
If Jersey wins the Cup, I'm sure Leafs fans will be rational about it.
I think it’ll be just fine for us Leafs fans. We’re all just anxious to see how they lose in the first round this year.
Why would NJ bother them more than anyone else?
@@patrickbooth5091 Sheldon Keefe’s the coach at Jersey.
How timely....I just finished watching your "Devils Look Poised for a Bounce back Season with Roster Additions" video.
Team has revamped big time. I expect a massive boost. 2nd in the Metro with 100-105 points.
As a leafs fan, looking forward to what Keefe can do with the Devils
I've been waiting for this. Thanks a bunch
All depends on injury or not. If they are healthy all the way, they should be passing canes
There is gonna be a lot of pressure on Devils this year
Yeah I hate it. Just like last year.
Getting Keefe is also a big move this offseason. I’m worried about Dougie coming back from his pectoral injury. If you look at players that have come back from that particular injury, they’re not the same. I don’t try to get my hopes up but with the moves we made this offseason I hope we make the playoffs
@@Matty_ice_30 Keefe will be the downfall of this team
Also worried about dougie and his return but with Luke hopefully taking a step to fill that dynamic offensive role this year and a beefed up defensive unit I’m not sure he needs to be the guy anymore, would be awesome if he was don’t get me wrong, but I don’t know if he’s as much of a lynch pin as he was last year which is a good thing
Let's go Devils
Pretty good assessment, but I would have highlighted one potential rookie who is expected to come over in the lauded Russian prospect Arseni Gritsyuk, who is expected sign with the team this year when the KHL season ends. Could be the cap space hold up with Mercer’s contract, but he could be with the team come spring.
Next season
Well after all the expectations going into last season and then everything bad that could of happened, happened.
Theres only one way to go and thats up but I do think this year will go a lot better
Can't wait to be back at the Rock very soon cheering on my boy's in the Red and Black 😈
Now let’s fix the rock. That whole place is a situation in itself.
I could see them win the division.
Truly it feels like the only thing standing between us and a deep playoff run is staying healthy. I'm definitely feeling better about our blue line this year
A healthy Devils team is a playoff team. This season should definitely be a bouceback for the Devils after last year's disappointment.
SCOUTS COLORS ❤
Cannot wait for October. Lets Go Devils!
Devils lost a year because of Dougie's injury. Dougie was the main pillar of that inexperienced and very young D... Luke and Simon played much much bigger roles and had much higher ice time than they should. Then Siegs injury and the D was basically an AHL roster... I'm not saying that with Dougie they would win SC, but they would definetly make PO... Goaltending wasn't great, but the inexperienced defense made it looks worse than it was...
THE JACK HUGHES SHOW WILL DOMINATE THE LEAGUE HE WILL WIN HART HE IS THE TRUE COMING I LOVE JACK HUGHES.
Let's just hope he doesn't pull a McOverrated and dissappear in 4 of the 7 games 😎
@@winkletown8828nah he carried them in the rangers series
Probably not. Unless he's changed his physique over the summer, Hughes is too small to stand up to physical play all year. He'll probably miss time due to injury again
@@ScurvyDog2222 YOU SURELY DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT JARK IS ABOUT TO DO TO YOUR POVERTY HOCKEY TEAM.
@@ScurvyDog2222 He's exactly the same size as Patrick Kane.
Let’s go baby
Very fair assessment. As a Devils fan for coming up on 20 years, I think we have the strongest squad for a long time here. I think we had a combination of terrible injury luck (especially Dougie), the loss of our face-off expert McLeod (legal), and a hyper-aggressive D-strategy that was frankly disastrous. For this season, I link the upgrades, and I hope we play a more balanced D, and let's see what this talented squad can achieve. My hopes are a good run in the playoffs, but I think we are still a couple years away from being a SCF team.
Should be a playoff team if they stay healthy.
This year will either be the 'Canes or Devils FINALLY breaking-out and making the Finals. Only question is how many games it'll take for them to beat Edmonton...
If injuries are manageable, this team has one of the best windows to win opening opening up in the entire NHL. Let's see how it plays out.
Devils cup incoming
The Hughes bros need to hit the weight room. Coming off shoulder surgery, I doubt Jack got in there this year either. I hope Hataaka makes the team. Liked his style in the limited time he got last year. LOVE THE JERSEY!
Jersey made all the right moves now entire season comes down to staying Healthy
Have a lot of hope for this team this season. Last season i sort of felt this dip season coming after the loss to carolina. Hopefully my wishful thinking comes true!
This coming season, the Devils will win the Metropolitan Division crown with a 66-11-5 record to capture the Presidents’ Trophy, sweep the Lightning in 4 games in the Eastern Conference 1st round, sweep the Rangers in 4 games in the Eastern Conference 2nd round, sweep the defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers in 4 games in the Eastern Conference finals, and sweep the Golden Knights in 4 games to capture their 4th Stanley Cup, complete a perfect playoff run at 16-0, and unseat the 1976-77 Canadiens as the greatest team in NHL history, Jack Hughes will lead the NHL in goals (87), assists (129), and points (216), lead the playoffs in goals (19), assists (35), and points (54), and win Hart Trophy, Art Ross Trophy, “Rocket” Richard Trophy, Lady Byng Trophy, Masterton Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award, and Conn Smythe Trophy honors, and Luke Hughes will lead the NHL among defensemen in goals (49), assists (103), and points (152) and win Norris Trophy honors.
I want what you're smoking 😂😂😂
Betting markets are more on point than the channel vote. Their roster is the best in the Metro. Keefe, a beefed up blueline, finally solid goaltending ,and better bottom six and all their stars not playing with (or being out) with injuries are going to give them a big jolt. They have more talent in every position than 2021-22 when they had the third best record in hockey. Keefe will give them a needed fresh kick to shake off last season. None of the top teams in the Metro improved as much in this off season.
They had a fluke season and crashed back to reality.
I thought the same. I knew last year they’d be down too. But when I watched the few times at the beginning of the year when all their kids are healthy, I think they might actually be that good. This season will give us the answer
Let's GO, DEVILS!!!!
If we win the Stanley Cup under Sheldon Keefe... Toronto are never ever going to hear the end of it 🤣 Let's Go Devils 😈🏒
Win 2 rounds and you can hang that over Toronto big time. Even better if round 1 is against Toronto
Healthy Jack, healthy Dougie, and assuming relative health across the lineup, this should be a very solid team in the EC. Noesen and Cotter are very underrated additions too.
Love the series
I knew we were screwed when he picked the Devils to win the Cup last year.
They need to stay healthy and the tendy needs to get his eyes checked ..... then it's go time! I feel like they have the makings of a contender. Let's see how the season plays out. Jack has the potential to set the league on fire, Luke should have improved over the off season and honed his skill set. Never been a die hard Devils fan, but i rarely root against them. Let's hope the boys stay healthy 💪💪 they could be the x factor in the post season.
Let’s go devil do, we are going to be insane
They have to be better this year than last season right? 🤷♂️
If Keefe wins a Cup his first year in New Jersey, I'm pretty sure the Maple Leafs just have to fold at that point...
I like their offseason moves tho I would have preferred Ullmark over Markstrom. I like the D moves and solid 12 forwards. Go Devils!
"This should be a good team."
Famous last words.
cant be worse than last year
Let’s see if they can stay healthy it’s always something with this team.
We'll do it live! 😂
They're built to win, as far as their roster balance and talent. Regular season should be good or great with Keefe. The only thing that gives me pause is some core players (namely Jack, Hischier, Bratt) have limited playoff experience, and only one guy has actually won a Cup (Palat, plus Allen as a backup in StL). But they seem to have a pretty good window ahead.
Great video
In light of the Jarvis contract, you should do a video breaking down the 1st round pick penalty the Devils had to pay for the Kovalchuk deal despite other teams before and after doing more or less the same thing without consequence. The Devils could have drafted Pastrnak that year, instead they ended up with John Quenneville.
you forgot macdermid
I think they can be a playoff team but the amount of people insisting on them being contenders is truly delusional.
Dillon can sometimes get into the habit of taking too many penalties, as he plays an aggressive physical style and is a bit on the slow side playing against faster forwards(I know this from when he played for the Caps). It will depend on who he is paired with. Markstrom can deliver during the regular season as a #1, but what will he give the Devils in the playoffs.
Best of luck Devils 👍
That would say a lot more about Toronto if he brings us a Cup in his first year lol or within 3 to 4 years! And we will win it within 4 years! 2 #1 picks and both Hughes brothers all on the same team?? That’s a recipe for multiple Stanley Cups 💪🏽 Let’s Go Devils baby
New head coach!
Daws had no NHL caliber D-Men in front of him. Huges and Nemec, their number pairing constantly turned over the puck in the high slot and left ALL the Devil goalies defenseless. It takes 3 years to make an NHL defenseman. Hopefully those two get some help and learn to defend better.
Actually rlly like the jersey
New Jersey finishes 1st or 2nd
Rookie watch: is Seamus Casey.
I knew last year was going to be a growing pains year and they weren’t going to do as well they did the year previous (didn’t think it would be that bad but still). This year I’m going in expecting to win. No more growing up and all that, this team is ready to win now! LETS GO DEVILS!!!
Brain: neck-and-neck with the Rangers for first in the Metro, at least one round won in the playoffs, possible Cup Finals appearance.
Heart: well, with Nemec already picking up something (allegedly not serious), another injury riddled season with lousy goaltending (Markstrom injury will go hand in hand), Fitzgerald fired midway through the season, Chuck Fletcher as GM replacement.
The lines you have on paper just don't work on the ice. Both Jack and Timo are volume shooters. Putting them together becomes an issue as there is only one puck. You see high on Cotters ability. I say go wild, put him with Hughes, and Mercer on the second line. His size will give Jack some cover. Hischier, Bratt on Meier on a different line. ( I hate the 1-2-3-4 line deal) Play the lines that are playing well. I guess that puts Noesen, Haula together, Palat. Fourth line Lazar, Tatar (who be bouncing up to Hughes line when Cotter is in the box, especially early) and either Foote/Bastain/Stillman whomever. Kurtis is a forward, not a defenseman. Listed as both but he never took a shift on defense last year.
I'm a big Devs fan and just hope Markstrom can be average this year...if he is I think the playoffs will be a certainty. Last season goaltending really held us back, because that team could score. Injury problems as well, but still coming off a year where we won a round it was disheartening to see them miss
Hughes needs to play at least 70 games as well
Markström and allen are good, but not great. Interesting to see if devils goaltending holds up😄
Probably the most pressured team to win big. I think Tom Fitzgerald is already on the hot seat by ownership when he ignored steady goaltending in his first years. With Allen and Markstrom, they simply have to deliver now or there'll be substantial sea change in the front office.
I think with this lineup they will make the playoffs.
Still wondering if the gritty players they added will spread the guts to rest of the team. Forwards are too timid as a group and weak on the puck in O zone IMO
LGD!!!!!
Kurtis is a fwd???
THG, we both picked jersey to win it all last year. I'm taking my Avs (without bias) this season. Who's your pick?
If most people had the Devils winning a cup last year, then most definitely should be the choice this year.
As a Devils fan, I didn't have them winning it, tho I did have them making the playoffs. I just, from day one, wasn't a fan of the goaltending, then Hamilton went down, that hurt.
This is the beat built Devils team, in what I'd say, 20 years, sounds crazy but, fight me then lol
I still harbor a bit of resentment towards you for getting my hopes up last year as a devils fan. jk
3rd or WC1 - they definitely have the talent, but I think Carolina will still outpace them in the regular szn, Rangers have another good year, and 43/17 are still mistake prone. Washington seems like they got better, too. We'll see. Hopefully better injury luck and the new system/personnel influx gels.
It's pretty weird to do a preview on this team and not mention the coach change.
Didn't even mention Nosen! He's a huge add
You mean Noesen? Shannon did when he discussed the top 12 forwards. Since you do not know how Noesen is spelled, could be you do not know how Noesen is pronounced as well:/
@@deansmith6593 I’m noticing a trend among Devils fans. Very hyper-sensitive
@@urbanoutdoorsman5654 Just pointing out the mistake in the complaint. Noesen's name was on the board. Nosen's name was spoken. Who do you cheer for?
Lizardman constant is 4%. These are the insincere responses from people who haven’t really thought through the question.
We need a healthy jack Hughes and Doug Hamilton. Ot to get hurt
And figured out the goalies situation we need a veteran
How will Hamilton produce this year?
Watching all the videos and comments and sounds like every team has improved and will finish higher than last year.... So which teams will finish in bottom ten? I guess Sharks and unfortunate Columbus, but according to the commentary all the others seem to be play-off contenders.
Where is Nolan Foote?
On the board he's the 4th one in the Extras for the forwards
I still think top 2 in the Metro are Rangers and Hurricanes. Devils should be 3rd, I think 4th should be interesting if it'll even be a team from the Metro taking that wild card spot
a canes fan overrating their team???
If they stay healthy, cup contenders for sure
LGD.

Love everything said here. Really need a strong year here boys. I do think the line combos are wonky though. I'd love to see
Tatar-Hischier-Meier
Noeson-Hughes-Bratt
Palat-Haula-Mercer
Cotter-Lazar-Bastian
Sieg-Hamilton
Hughes-Pesce
Dillon-Nemec
PP1 J.Hughes Hischier Bratt Meier Hamilton
PP2 Haula Noeson Mercer L.Hughes Nemec
Tatar really isn't a top line player at this point.
@@TheHockeyGuy I agree with you 100% but chemistry was my thought. The team is LH dominant and a lot of players play off wing.
You could swap palat and Tatar I just don't know which is truly better lol
Even with terrible gming, bad defense,Goaltending they werent that bad other than the G/A, 10th in PK with that team they iced last year is not too bad. Its ECF or Fitzy is gone from the GM role.If they make playoffs Keefes PP has to be better. They have 2 RHD if Nemec is hurt to start the season so lets all stop worrying about that. I would keep Timo and nIco together and Luke and Hamilton are not ideal pairing.
Really great defense! Dominant, Great tenders! There forwards need to find the back of the net, and stay healthy. If if if.

The Devils will be in the basement of the Metro again. Rempe will knock out Bastian and Siegenthaler again. Then he will watch the Hughes brothers skate into walls and injure themselves just like last year.

Can't wait to see Trouba torpedo himself into the boards again too 😂
Maybe they’ll squeak in a wildcard spot, idk

Interesting that Dillon is an excellent defenceman once he signed with NJD but was too old, too slow and took too many penalties when he was with Winnipeg last season
What?
@@TheHockeyGuy 4th most penalized player in the league over the past 3 seasons, and #6 since 2020. Definitely slowing down at age 34. Plays tough but not much left in the tank. NJD overpaid both salary and term when they signed him
@@urbanoutdoorsman5654 first of all, he's 33. Second, who cares if hes one of the most penalized guys in the league. The devils need physicality and guys that aren't afraid to put their body on the line. He's a fighter, a grinder, and is a good puck moving defenseman. This is no way an overpay at all you just don't watch hockey. These kinds of stats are so dumb to look at 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@alexv517 wow. You sure told me.
No point going yoffs if can’t win cup.
Of course there's a point. Not sure what soft offense is since most skill players don't drop the gloves.
@@TheHockeyGuy if you can just scratch your way into yoffs but have little chance winning means nothing. You have build your team like LV or Cats. Both had great shots win cup before Yoffs. By soft, look what Cats and LV are not.
@@TheHockeyGuy in fact getting into yoffs and bowing out is hurting you further. You get less offseason recovery and move down draft order. Better to thank and build better team.
Let's go Devils
The defense still isn't enough for a playoff run this year. Hamilton, Nemec and Luke would ALL need to learn how to keep their own end clean under high pressure, which isn't going to happen yet. Probably good regular season team.
That’s one of nemec’s hallmarks buddy open your eyes next time you watch
@@18laxX He had a good first year, but he's never been to NHL playoffs and it takes years of playoffs before young players get rid of the rookie mistakes. For playoffs you need playoff experience, and for the D it just takes years to develop.
