Attic Raiders Retro Reviews takes a look at how to play the elimination survival board game Mole In The Hole released by Ravensburger in 1995 (and as Die Maulwurf Company in Germany the same year).
"The digging competition is on. Now it is a matter of bringing as many moles from your own team as possible through the four layers of digging all the way down.
There the reward awaits the cleverest: The Golden Shovel!
But be careful: only those that reach a digging hole in time stay in the race; the others are thrown out.
From shift to shift, there are fewer and fewer moles that remain in the competition.
And at the end it is clear: only one gets through!
Dig as hard as you can because only one can get through!"

This is a cool game, moles are one of my favorite animals. The design of the moles are literally the most 90's "Fellow Kids" thing I've seen on a board game lol.

Fun looking game. Component of the game looks great. It looks like it's got a good blend of strategy and luck to it. Thanks for showing it.

Great video. I have inner circle but like the rules on this one more.

Solid review! I’ve seen this before so I was familiar with the gameplay, but I’m happy to hear you enjoy it. I’ll keep my eyes on this one haha

Thanks Bernardo. It's a fun, quick, simple little game with zero setup time (and plastic miniatures! 😛), so it's got my vote!

This reminds me of Bernardo's UA-cam channel. It's in a hole.
      GREAT review! Really interesting concept!

Never seen this one before, or even Inner Circle, so I'm coming at this totally fresh.
I have a very simple way of judging if I would like a game like this: if I find myself with a stupid grin on my face as I watch the review, I'd enjoy it, and with this one, I look like some sort of demented Cheshire Cat with a grin going from ear to ear! 😸🤣
Thanks for bringing this game to my attention, another one to add to my wants list.

Cute game! I agree I prefer the idea of this gameʼs randomness over Inner Circleʼs memorizability (not that _my_ memory would be up to the task!). The figurines remind me of a grand old game in which the beasties also incongruously resembled ducks - Iʼm thinking of the dragons in the Atari 2600 classic Adventure. Iʼm quite certain Mole in the Hole does not live up to Adventureʼs fun and excitement, but it strikes me as a good “filler” - ironic, eh? Nice helmet! Thank you for shining a light on this game.

No my memory is not great with that sort of thing either. There's actually a really evil Waddingtons game that I've not played for AGES as it relies heavily on memory - and you get hurt if you forget things!
(The helmet is a genuine miner's helmet - borrowed from my lifesize Miner bust from the My Bloody Valentine remake)

Rather a gruesome touch for so innocuous a game! 🖤

This looks like a great one. Very simple gameplay but the components are well made and there's a fantastic sense of physicality and immersion.

I suppose you could use dice to add a degree of randomness in place of the cards, and I've just checked and yes 4 sided dice are a thing you can buy, This game is a win for me and I'll be looking out for it on my travels.

You could use a four sized die (or D4), but the game deliberately has different weightings to the number of moves you can make - i.e. only 1/6 chance of a 1 or a 4, but 2/6 (or 1/3) chance of getting a 2 or a 3 - and you wouldn't get that with a D4 (where every move would have a 1/4 chance of coming up). Personally I think that the shuffled cards add just enough randomness, but with the ability to plan for future moves with greater accuracy the further you get through your deck of 6. But of course, you can play however you want. :)

@@AtticRaidersRetroReviews that's a very good point, the cards add a level of tactics to the game that dice simply couldn't and they create a fairness to all players that again dice wouldn't be able to. Thanks for the reply, it made me think.
