Hey Matt, you should put shockwatches inside the helmets or vest you test to see if the shock of the bullets would actually kill. The bullet may not go through the helmet but I have a hunch the impact would definitely kill.

It would make your head rattle a bit and possibly make your brain touch your skull if the caliber is big enough but I don't think that there is enough force to kill a person, the worst that could happen would be you passing out.

Zombie Cartman We have had the technology for exosuits for decades. It's really not that difficult. All of the servos, motors, and joints are easy to make. Getting a power source for them is the literal only thing holding us back. Lithium ion batteries need a shit ton more capacity per pound before they could be worth it.

Imagine shooting a guy wearing this in the face while he’s chasing you, and he just tanks it and keeps running
hmmmm, pretty sure the high caliber rounds would at the very least knock him out. The amount of energy smacking your head would give head trauma, brain commotion, and your neck would suffer a lot too. So even if the bullet doesn't get into your brain, it's not guaranted that you'd survive.

If you just want the look, there's an imitation from Wosport on alibaba for $60. I doubt it's actually bullet-proof at that price, though.

This is fucking cool! But I'm wondering how much it still hurts to have your head hit by a bullet like that. As in, would it knock your head back or even knock you on your ass? Sure you don't die, but I imagine that would be one hell of a headache.

The impacts that deformed the helmet underneath like the 44 mag would have more than likely killed the person wearing it. While the bullet didn't penetrate the kevlar that's a hell of an impact to take to the brain, it was like at least an inch of deformation which would mean a ton of blunt force trauma to the skull and brain. But let's say a hypothetical helmet takes a 115gr projectile going 1k fps with no backface deformation, that's >300ft/lb of energy and it will snap your head back and you will probably fall from the surprise and shock of it. Even with some very nice padding on the inside and a shell that didn't deform your head would be ringing like a Major League player had just taken his best swing at your helmet. The reason I brought up on backface deformation is there's a very minimal level of backforce deformation that can be tolerated before residual energy of the bullet is being transferred through the last few layers of helmet into your skull, the bullet might not penetrate but the focused energy of that bullet could still send a chunk of your skull into your brain or just deliver a hard enough whack to the brain that the concussive trauma is not survivable.
You be dead even if you wore a normal bullet proof helmet then the point of the mask is to protect the jaw/face from being completely effed.
It would almost definitely knock you the fuck out and give you a severe concussion at best.
As with any ballistic armor, you're still going to take the hit. It just gets spread out over a much wider area than the tip of the bullet.
DevTac is a Japanese based small company which started by making airsoft oriented gear. The owner later decided to make "real guns resistant" versions for the security market.
As an airsoft player, I owned one of those. And, well, let's say there is reasons why real soldiers never used this kind of things.
It has all the problems you can imagine it has just by looking at it. It fogs heavily despite the built in anti fog system. It gets super hot. It's a bit harder to breath so you get out of breath more easily. Your field of view is very limited. It's impossible to properly shoulder a normal rifle, unless you use a very high montage or something. I guess it does look cool, but in my opinion it makes your head too big compared to the rest of your body, which makes you look a bit like a cartoon character.
Also, it's super expensive. My airsoft model (which looks pretty much like the one shown in this video) costed me around 850 euros (and it was the non ballistic version, obviously). I'm pretty sure the ballistic version cost twice as much, if not more. And finally, it takes forever to get one of those, since they're hand made or something. When I ordered it, the owner told me I would have to wait like 3 months to get one. In the end, I waited about a year.
[edit] I didn't think my message would get so much attention. So, I went back into my emails to check : the mask costed me exactly 835 USD, including the 70 USD shipping price (but excluding the custom taxes). The details are : 480 USD for the Ronin mask (with plates), 195 USD for the back helmet (with plates), 15 USD for the side rails and 75 USD for the NVG mount. 1 year is exagerated, I waited 7,5 months between the first payment and the actual shipping of the mask. Also, I'm going to point out that all I'm saying is only my personnal experience with the mask. I know other airsoft players who actually enjoy their mask.

Not sure how practical that would be. The eyes are a pretty small area, and making the lenses thick enough to be as tough as the rest is also likely to impair vision. The ones they used did pretty damn well as it is.
Making a lens bulletproof while still being thin enough to put into a helmet isnt easy. In fact I dont think it can be done effectively.

Here in Germany it's not allowed to take a one handed (flipper) knife outside of your house.. the maximum you could, is some kind of knife (it should has a stare blade) what you need for as worksman.. a folding one maybe could be accepted but it also could cause problems - it depends on the category of the knife.. but you have to prove it if you get into control

Even if that stops a bullet from a stronger caliber round you're most likely going to have internal hemorrhaging and possibly fractured skull depending on how deep of an impression the projectile makes. I'd like to see what kind of results this company saw with their testing. As for vest, I know companies that make soft body armor usually will test with clay to see how much of an impression the projectile makes against the torso since even a stopped projectile can be lethal. Although, I don't care how good is stop projectiles. I want one because it looks cool and that's what matters because life is about having fun.

Back face deformation is the term you're looking for, and yes it can be lethal.
I think the fact that the helmet opens when hited by a high caliber makes it possible to survive more, after all, its not metal denting your skull

Problem is, in a semi-dystopian future, their technology is actually cheaper for what it is. These cosplayer helmets are at least 2k and not as good, or as cheap as old russian surplus military helmets with thick visors.

Nice. When they tested facial protection like these against “blast wave” it was found to make things way worse, it actually amplified the force. Law enforcement sometimes wear these on quick raids like a hostage rescue or a drug raid because they’re great against shotguns and if you’re only wearing them for a few minutes they don’t cause much discomfort. I don’t think soldiers would want to wear these on a long patrol even with the little air fans. If you issued these to most soldiers they’re expensive and likely go unused

The helmet is Kevlar. It’s pretty bad ass. I have one that i got 1 year ago. There are more options that are available now. 3A will run you little over 2K.

G forces wouldn't really be accurate because you head would increase the mass, so a helmet alone would accelerate much faster than a helmet with a head in it

just make a head out of clay and measure the dent put into it, thats what the FBI uses to measure the back face deformation, which would be enough to tell the energy transfer.

You should get a box of baking soda and a large bottle of superglue. Place the baking soda in front and superglue bottle behind it then shoot it and see what weird mass of dried glue is left from the two mixing.
it's a cool concept, i can imagine doing that over time would probably make surrounding laminated layers quite bullet resistant, being that the superglue/bakingsoda combo is used to repair helicopter blades.
