I've been searching for a lighter and smaller phone without compromising too much processing power. This review really helped me to decide. I'm upgrading from Samsung S21 Ultra. I love my current phone but the heaviness is wearing my right hand at some point. Thank you for the detailed review for this unit.
The S23 series definitely made some nice improvements from the S22. I still don't think it's worth the upgrade for S22 users. I'll probably upgrade when the S24 drops. Thanks again Ella!
@Prince Phillip Yes anything earlier than the S22 Ultra is a big upgrade. There's just too many similarities with the S22 Ultra to warrant me upgrading my device.
I got the s23 phone few days ago. It seems to me the best in all respects. I don't play any games. I got 6 hours of screen ontime by running video calls and UA-cam, Facebooking and other apps. Also there was a standby of about 19 hours. Which really surprised me.
Hands down the best review of the s23 and I've been watching every single review since it came out. You go through everything thats important, especially the battery when others just gloss over it.
Great video as always! Sidenote: you mentioned the 50mp Fotos being bad in low light conditions as if we would have expected better quality. But that's pretty normal and the case on ever single phone, also 14 pro and s23 ultra. 50mp mode is waaaay more pixel therefore the Pixels are smaller and need more light. On any single phone on this planet right now the normal 12 mp picture will always look better than the 50mp/200mp/48mp picture when taken in low light :) 8:20
Thank you for explaining the differences between UFS 3.1 and 4.0. Phone storage speed has also never been an issue for me either and most reviewers never admit this. It's shooting 8k30 video which normally pushes the write speeds to the max.

Great review. I'll be upgrading from an S8 (yes, you read that right), so anything would be a huge upgrade. Considering the plus and ultra models are just too big, and too feature rich for what I use my phone for, the base model seems like the best fit for me. Thanks!

Good review - no one else seems to mention the multi-tasking when reviewing / comporting. I have the S9+ for almost 5 years and really like Samsung's "pop-up-view" feature and multitasking / transparency. Normally i would never spend $800+ on a phone with only a 3900mah battery but the great gen2 chip along with all the positive reviews of good battery life convinced me, it's a great phone and i love the hand friendly size.
I like how you've gone over thermal throttling! Great work! I think that's a really important part of the SoC performance that MOST reviewers don't even mention
Excellent objective review Ella. I wanted a Pixel 7, but after reading of all the bugs users are experiencing with Pixel, I gonna buy the S23, as it also smaller than Pixel 7. I like compact phones with the most memory available
I had the S20 fe that I loved & worked perfectly, but after going through four AT&T SIM cards, we concluded that an upgrade was necessary so the upgrade was to the S23 & as much as I miss my other phone. I'm still playing with the many settings & features but so far I'm pretty happy with it & since they didn't have the 'cream' in stock I went with the lavender which is a really good match to my smartwatch/watchband :)
This was a great review, you answer most of questions. My only gripe was how the iPhone was mentioned so many times. Almost felt more of a comparison review. Keep up the good work Ella👍
I'm glad you mentioned the individual lenses getting dirtier easier. That's been my biggest complaint with any of those style of cameras. I preferred how the S20 did it tbh. Pink S20 is still my favourite colour and design for a phone
Hey, that was a really great review. I really enjoyed it but I’m wondering if you could compare the S 23 to the Pixel 7 as I see that is more of its direct competitor than an iPhone. Pixel cost a couple hundred dollars less but the Samsung has some hardware benefit so that would be an interesting comparison. Anyway it was great video to watch good job.
Well thought-out review. Thanks for highlighting the sharpening differences across the camera modes, something other reviewers mentioned, but didn't show well 👍🏼
Great job. Personally, I find iOS convoluted compared to the flexibility of OneUI. Of course the iPhone is better integrated and seamless, but that is about it in my opinion. Use One Hand operation + to customize the phone even further. And Dex takes flagship Samsung phones to another level. Just get an external monitor and the phone serves as a mini computer, or connect wirelessly to a TV for a full desktop experience matching the resolution of the screen. Can’t see myself going back to Apple soon.
Despite rarely upgrading phones, I did upgrade from my S22 to the S23 and I LOVE it. My favorite hidden feature? There is a Light performance profile that didn't exist on the S22. When enabled, my Geekbench score went down only 3% yet now my phone NEVER gets hot, even in games. As for battery life, it is mildly better than the S22. I expected a bigger jump but I'd say it lasts about 10% longer.
I am getting a refurbished, renewed S23 by the end of this month to replace my broken Google Pixel 6 and my current, old S10+ that still holds up decently!
I was using 13 pro max and sold it foe its out of storage and heating issues my friend suggested me s22 ultra but i bought this little beast and beleive me iphone is overhyped s23 camera and battery is insane love samsung was using iphone from iphone 8 to over 13

I bought s23 a few days ago and its been draining battery and heating up like crazy, people been telling me that this is normal for most phones and it fixes by itself in 1-3 weeks as the phone is "adapting" to my usage pattern and learning it, i just want some more confirmation aboit this as frankly, i am scared because of the very high temperatures/batterg drainage (no other issues whatsoever tho)
3:00 that transition sound is slightly triggering. im pretty sure other youtubers use it with "please subscribe and click on notification bell" onscreen animation.
I take a lot of landscape photos and don't like the fake colours of the sky and clouds of the Samsung camera. In your comparison to the iPhone pictures it becomes even more obvious. I still prefer Samsung over Apple - so my question is: Can you test the S23 camera without the scene optimizer being turned on? Maybe this would produce a better colour accuracy.
Thanks Great Review! I think this will be the one I upgrade to this year. I'm coming from a S20 so I think this will be a big upgrade. I just subscribed to your channel keep up the good work.
I just want to mention that 128gb with UFS 3.1 also uses more battery, but it is jot that noticable... In the long run, you probably will see the difference tho, so if you plan to keep your phone for 2years, you probably should get the 256gb model 😊
one ui have more than other android system. I use it from S10 in 4 yrs on Samsung one ui never regret, it bring me the best user experience. Love Samsung and one ui.
Should we worry about the white screen of death? I've had it with my S20 and I've since been apprehensive about purchasing the S23. Kindly share your opinion 🙏
You quickly became my favourite tech youtuber. You're pointing out things that other reviewers are missing and you're very precise about the differences. Thank you!
10:35 NO! That's how Raw photos are supposed to look!🤦 "Unedited". As a photographer I never use the Expert Raw app. Because it takes 5x longer to take just one photo. And the results are pre-edited photos with a brutal amount of artifacts. I don't want either of those! That's why I shoot Raw.
I'm planning to upgrade, which has better price to performance S23 plus or the S23 Ultra? My old phone (A71) just broke and i am torn between these two
Great video Ella! New subscriber here. The S23 uses the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front screen. But what glass is on the lenses, and do the lenses need covers?
I wanted the Ultra but the price and size kinda drew me away from it, as I'm downgrading from the 13 Pro Max due to its size. However, I do plan on upgrading to the Ultra bc I now miss the size ... and I really want the cameras.
ufs 4.0 is also important for efficiency. Storage is used a lot in a phone throughout the day, so efficiency gains in storage will actually translate to noticeable battery life difference, kinda in line with with the efficiency gain percentages
@@fantasytky28 i wouldn't go so far. Her reviews are pretty good and thorough, just 1 detail which, i think its importance was downplayed but other than that this was a nice review
The only thing left for S24 series is the satellite connectivity, otherwise Samsung pretty much finally nailed their, "signature look", specifically with S23 Ultra. But I like that they got rid of the camera casing. Looks premium and easily identifiable brand design.
@@Rahulgusain9811 Bloatware ya they should give the option to delete the Samsung services as we want but the animations are already smooth af with the 5.1 update you can check out videos featuring it
@Bzake They actually got two different lead designers from auto industry: one is from BMW (Chris Bangle) another from Mercedes (Hubert Lee). The current design has been "finalised" in some ways, save for some features that would've future-proofed the phones. But whatever designs they come up with S24 (I am not saying they would rest on their laurels, unlike a certain company that overcharges for the same phone, year after year), it would be a separate line to S22-S23 style.
@@MayankGupta-th3wt Idk, didn't sit well with me. Made it look weird, how much attention it draws to the camera setup. That "monolith" look for S23 series looks nicer overall. Last year, there were fan designs showing a fully-embedded camera setup, but that didn't happen. I think this looks nice for a signature look, now if only the colours offered had a vibrancy to it 😄 Still choosing matte black, the other colours look too dull for a flagship phone.

A question ? What app do you use for the time and date of the cell phone . . Thanks
I'd like to know too.
I just found out its called overdrop
Thanks for sharing. I really admire the length of technicality you put in. My best wishes from India.
Best comparison. I got all the answers I needed. Thank you.
I just want to mention that 128gb with UFS 3.1 also uses more battery, but it is jot that noticable... In the long run, you probably will see the difference tho, so if you plan to keep your phone for 2years, you probably should get the 256gb model 😊
Lmao.. both 128 and 256 will last at least 4years without any problem
@@alexandrgr true, but you will notice a bigger difference between ufs 4.1 and 5.0 when apps take advantage of higher speeds
@@vidpetrovic8907 there is no ufs5.0 bro
this is one of the better review channels out there. simple n helpful
Expert raw is in the camera app ella, if you already updated to One UI 5.1
Recently bought a Galaxy S23 (256 GB). It's amazing, it's bright & loud. The battery & charging is great too
Just upgraded from the s21 and damn…..this jump is huge…my s21 used to really heat up after just 20 mins of video calling
Excelent review!! Thanks for your content
I'm gonna need that widget you're using on there 🔥🔥🔥
Its called overdrop
Really nice and informative review. Thanks!
Thank you for the well-rounded review, as always!
6:10 oh hey didn't know you were from Toronto!
one ui have more than other android system.
Thank you!
Bollocks!!! Marques Brownlee & MrWhosTheBoss are much better than this woman. Smh.
thanks so much!
Great review, and thanks for explaining 👍
You rocks. Your reviews are precious 😊
Glad you like them!
Yeah but true raw from phone camera has very poor dynamic range tho
@@CreatedbyEllaYT before you edit them, yes. But even if the entire sky is blown out you can still bring back like 80% of it, since it's a raw.
I'm planning to upgrade, which has better price to performance S23 plus or the S23 Ultra? My old phone (A71) just broke and i am torn between these two
Great video Ella! New subscriber here. The S23 uses the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front screen. But what glass is on the lenses, and do the lenses need covers?
nice to see toronto tech reviewers. keep them coming!
I wanted the Ultra but the price and size kinda drew me away from it, as I'm downgrading from the 13 Pro Max due to its size. However, I do plan on upgrading to the Ultra bc I now miss the size ... and I really want the cameras.
Nice smooth explanation love from India
ufs 4.0 is also important for efficiency. Storage is used a lot in a phone throughout the day, so efficiency gains in storage will actually translate to noticeable battery life difference, kinda in line with with the efficiency gain percentages
and it increases loading times because it has faster read and wirte speed
There you go. You have reviewer that know nothing about it but acting like it's not important
@@fantasytky28 i wouldn't go so far. Her reviews are pretty good and thorough, just 1 detail which, i think its importance was downplayed but other than that this was a nice review
Ordered mine today and I chose cream for color, I didn’t know it has matte glass! Its gonna be great.
Am using S 21 and can't wait to switch again
Cool video :) I am looking forward to more of your videos coming in 2023
More to come!
Very informative thanks for this. 👍
Well rounded review ❤
The only thing left for S24 series is the satellite connectivity, otherwise Samsung pretty much finally nailed their, "signature look", specifically with S23 Ultra. But I like that they got rid of the camera casing. Looks premium and easily identifiable brand design.
That camera housing looked distinguishable from the other phones tho and better imo. Not that I don't like the individual camera rings
Also to reduce their bloatware and make their android much cleaner and animations a little more smoother.
