The problem that people often have with saving money is the lack of income. It's hard to save money when you're not making a lot of money; however, if you are savvy with how you go about saving, you can save more without making more. In this video, I share 10 ways you can save more without making more.
1. Allocate More Taxes To Be Withheld From Your Paycheck
One way to trick yourself into saving more money is to allocate more money to be taken out of your paycheck for taxes. There are pros and cons to this, but if you allocate a little more money to be set aside, at the end of the year, you will have a larger tax refund.
2. Switch Banks
Banks are a lot more competitive than they used to be where they compete with different benefits. If you switch banks to a bank with higher interest rates and no fees, you can save more money.
3. Index Investing
If you have a solid emergency fund, you can get a higher interest rate by investing in index funds. If you put your money in a low cost index fund, you can receive an average yearly return of 10%, which can help you save more without making more.
4. Dividend Payments
Dividend payments are when you own stocks or index funds, you can sometimes get a percentage of the profits paid out yearly or quarterly. This is a great way to get extra money to save passively.
5. Sell Your Unused Items
I am in the process of moving and what I have noticed is that we all have things in our house that we don't use. If you can start listing those items online to sell, you can save more and declutter your house.
6. Switch To Mint Mobile
Another great way to save money is by lowering your cell phone bill and switch to Mint Mobile. Mint has plans as low as $15/month, which can allow you to save more.
7. Switch Insurance Providers
As we enter the new year, it is good to take a look at all of your insurance plans and see if you can find any lower rates.
8. Do A Saving Challenge
Saving challenges are ways to have a plan to save more money. If you choose a saving challenge from my video, you can save more by having a plan.
9. Don’t Waste Anything
We waste a lot each year whether that's with food or stuff. If you focus on cutting out your waste, you can save more.
10. Spend Less
The easiest way to save more money is by spending less. If you focus on cutting out your spending, you can save more without making more.

What's another way to save more without making more?
I have gone to a bidet and reusable toilet paper. I suggest people research it. It is so much better for your pocket book, the environment and your bottom. I am a traveling nurse and literally place my bidet into every home, airbnb or long term hotel in which I live during a contract.
I only buy what I need and if something needs replaced. I use an antenna, radio, free streaming apps, and the library for my entertainment.
Sign up for your local grocery apps to clip digital coupons. I have save so much money by having my wife and kids also sign up and take advantage of those coupons to fill our pantries and freezers. We stock up on goods that will not perish right away and we have learned that by doing this, we all eat healthier cause we make our food at home. Also look at the clearance rack for goods that are priced just right.
I am disabled and on a low income, so I have gone to reusable items. Family cloths instead of toilet paper (repurposed from the good spots of old tshirts), cleaning cloths and knapkins instead of paper towels, reusable water bottle, etc. Since I can't afford a bidet, I use a spray bottle instead! When I need something, I look around at what I already have before buying anything to see if I already have something that can be repurposed instead of buying new. If I can't find something to repurpose, I check out free places, buy used, or clearance, and then if I still haven't found anything, I check out discount stores and if all else fails, a regular store... I check online before I drive all over when possible...
@ElAgustin, you are so funny and smart, thank you for these videos! I have always been frugal, but you are helping me 'up' my game!
Wash and reuse packaging
I started a no buy 6 months on Jan 1….hoping to extend it to 12 months…I am determined to stick to this …and boost my emergency funds..💰
Started getting better with not wasting food . There's the we have nothing to eat panic but then stopping and actually looking at what's left in fridge / freezer/pantry . More often we are only missing an ingredient or two so we get them rather than doing a big shop
It is better
I'm a minimalist so my fridge has 7 containers that we put our food in. It keeps everything organized and much easier to clean. I'm down to 1 bottle of salad dressing. I'll make my own after this one is gone. So my food bill is smaller and smaller and what we eat is fresher and fresher.
I used to use cabs and Ubers to go to and from work. The public transportation to get there was exhausting, unreliable and unsafe in Mexico City. During the pandemic they created a bus line that's safe and the bus stop is only six blocks away from my home. I couldn't believe how much extra money I had at the end of the month and it was an eye opener. I'm currently doing a no spend year since December and it's really not that hard. I want to become frugal and I can do it right now
I am a big believer in selling unused items to those who want/need them. There's an added benefit beside the money: you'll have less clutter in your life. Last week I unloaded two vintage sewing machines -- I priced them pretty low because I wanted them out asap -- and sold each of them in just one day. Many things have become very expensive compared to just a few years ago and there are a lot of people who simply can't afford "new" anymore. You're doing them a favor and yourself as well. Excellent video as always!
Ugh, in theory this sounds great. And I have tried it. But-I always seem to get my time wasted by people that ghost you after contacting you, or who insist on seeing an item first before buying it. I’ve even had people show up, and THEN try to haggle the (already low) price, when someone else was turned down (because they weren’t first to offer.) I’m so sick of this.
To have the conviction that you can save more from your present income is so motivational. It gives you the feeling that you already have the security that you are looking for in your life.
I'm invested in VTSAX fund, 401k maxed yearly, HSA and finally adding into a 4.25% HYSA (Ally). I'm on track to pay off my house this September 2024 (7 years total out of a 30 year loan @ 4%). To help reach the goals. I cut cable. I switched to mint mobile. I found a better electric plan. I switched to liability car insurance. I cook my own food. I invested in a food vacuum sealer to freeze vegetables, bulk meat, left overs etc. I buy store brand products vs name brand products. I found cheaper laundry detergent in bulk. I stopped drinking soda. I make my own ice tea. I installed a bidet and saved a lot on toilet paper. I live way below under my means. Lets go 2024.
All that huh
You give very good advice.
I disagree about having more money withheld.
That is YOUR money. Why be without it and allow a company have it?
You are teaching discipline. Don't let the gov't hold your money, you be responsible with it. Bank it and let it collect interest vs be without it til tax time comes.
You can bank the money you would otherwise have had withheld.
One of the things I did right.
@@rudymalizia8842 You are absolutely right
Step 7: I shop around and compare every six months. (Car insurance). In December I lowered my six month car premium for same options from $1150 to $762!
Wow!
Because of u… I switched to mint 2 months ago. Saving me a $100 a month. Great customer service! And earlier this year I shopped around for different car insurance. I went from $247 down to $80! SHOP AROUND PEOPLE!
Right on! It's a great company!
what website did you use to compare please?
@@pa1986ful I just compared to what I was paying for my wife and I at Verizon. 2 lines unlimited was $158. I have great service. I had to call mint to correct my wife’s phone. Rep was a sweetheart and super helpful.

Hi Austin! Heard about your channel from Dawn aka Money Mom. She was right, after listening to just one video, I like what I hear and I'm subscribing. Great info you are sharing!
I am doing a no spend challenge. I have spent a total of $34 on necessities this month and I am really enjoying this challenge! No eating out, no paid entertainment…I am brave and fearless!
keep going you can do it! you are doing great so far👏👏
Go girl! I have radically reduced my already slightly crazy budget and am enjoying it 😊
You are brave and fearless and you will succeed!!!!
Way to go! I'm going to do the same
lol. It’s KILLING me!! Hahahaha. Too many bad habits. It’s been barely a week and I’m going nuts with temptation here
I miss hearing your voice! I listen to you while doing house chores. Happy new year!
Ha! Ditto!!
Happy new year!
Love Your Channel And All Your Advice And Help.. Wish I Had A Close Friend Like You. Not Even 1 Person Around Me Is Financially Stabled. It Is So Hard To Do It All Alone Around People That Are Living Pay Check To Pay Check And Have A Lot Of Financial Problems 😢😒
1) You're just giving the government an interest free loan - just take those 10 dollars and invest/save them every week yourself
Sadly, a lot of people will just spend the $10. People forget that even small amounts add up!
I love my dividends. They pay out quarterly and usually more of a payout at the end of the year(4th quarter). I keep mine in a tax free account (Canada) but we also have a lower tax rate for dividends if held outside a tax free account. Highest tax rate in Canada is on interest, then lower is capital gains and lowest is dividends. Happy frugal New Year!
My friends used to laugh at me because i was “cheap”. I dont agree with waste. I see it as throwing away my labor since it takes work to earn money to buy stuff. Anyhow, my present self is in the position it is now, thanks to my past selfs actions
I dealt w same but I tell them I can afford but this is not how I like to spend my money. Yrs back I had this friend who borrowed from.me but had no intention of paying back while enjoying life going places, buying $100 boots, eating put etc etc. This was 16 plus yrs ago, I havw also cut ppl put of my.life either.
I have gotten to realize that we waste a bunch of money in things we do not even need and by not purposing the things we do need. I myself have been on a mission to save a much as possible. My daughter walked in on me in the kitchen cutting Costco napkins in half since the napkin is quite large and can easily be cut in half and used in a more purposeful manner. I have adopted many frugal ways cause as inflation rises, it makes you feel the pinch more causing changes in habits.
Austin, u r such a natural & born UA-camr for sure! U r going to go FAR!!!
Thank you so much for yet another amazing video! Have a wonderful week! ❤️
Austin: I started the penny saving challenge, after watching your video, late last year. I checked the piggy bank yesterday...$8.23
Awesome!! Sounds like you're moving faster than the challenge!
What is the penny save challenge?
@@ElAgustin Well, it helped that I had 87 cents inside the piggy already, by the time I saw your video ;-)
@@NanaNicole2024 You save a penny everyday, in a piggy or an empty can... after a year, you can save up to 600 bucks, if you forget about it. Of course, he explains it better than this, in the video that he mentions here.
Always, very good advice and videos. I think most don’t follow your advice unfortunately. I watch some of your videos to remind myself of how important money is in life. Thanks
I never try to get a bigger tax refund. One yr, we owed the state $32.00 and weirdly enough, got a Fed. Refund of ….$32.00. We just always try to sock money away in a savings vehicle: bank savings account, money market account, 401k, etc.
Yeah, I definitely dont agree with that one. You’re basically giving the government an interest free loan, when you could automate savings and place it in a high yield savings account to generate interest instead.
Awesome.. short n Sweet video as usual El Agustin.. I found a great way to save money.. previously on most of my off days I used to hit a pub. Nowadays I just sit at home and watch UA-cam.. this saves me gas money plus money spent on food and drinks.. eating at home more often made me healthier too. So hopefully less expense on healthcare too.. ❤
You get a larger refund by withholding more, but they are holding it without paying you any interest
It’s the attention to detail that gets one ahead. Everything is a big deal if you’re poor.
Yes, it would be better to just have an auto deposit to a bank/ credit Union that isn’t as convenient for you to get into. A couple years ago, our car died in August, a week after we got our big tax refund, which usually comes in by May! Thankfully it was there, but what if the car had died before that?! We would not have had the cash in hand to buy and would have had to get a loan 🤦♀️
Yes but if you don't have it in your account you can't spend it, so that is savings. My guess is that most people would do better with witholding than with the interest they might make. If you ain't got it, you can't spend it..
I’d rather pay at tax season than lending the money to govt interest free too
Cook every meal at home. Utilize portion control to limit the amount of food you cook. I eat meat at every meal except beef. It's too expensive and gives me heartburn. 2 s!ices of bacon at breakfast, a few slices of deli meat at lunch, and no more than 4 oz of salmon, pork, chicken or sausage for dinner. I pad out all my meals with inexpensive starches and fresh vegetables. My stomach gets full at every meal with no indigestion. The financial reduction in my weekly grocery bill surprised me.
Reason one is a good idea for some but I don’t like it because I don’t want the government holding my excess money. I would rather have the $50 each week; save and invest that $50 each week instead of waiting a year for a $2600 lump sum.
My husband says the same thing. Not to mention they don’t pay you any interest like you’d get if it was in an interest bearing savings account the whole year. But I do have a friend that would never save anything if she didn’t have extra money withheld. 😢
Hi I'm a new subscriber to your channel. I've always lived quite frugally but your videos have motivated me even more. I'm really enjoying your content and love your outlook on life.
Thanks!! I'm glad you're enjoying my videos!
I've been binge watching your videos and what I've realized is that while tips are important, money and spending is literally a reflection of your thought processes...why you are spending, what are your goals. Thank you for your practical and philosophical videos on the topic!
Exactly!
so glad I found you Austin! Do you need to make monthly copies of the free spreadsheet?-just want to use your ideas and my time wisely!
Hello Austin! 🎉❤ just watched this video and enjoyed it as always! Are you set up in Georgia yet?
Just applied for an apartment!
I go to the Food Bank right after the give-away. They have many gallons of just expired organic milk I use to make cheese. All I buy is vinegar and salt. I also take the just expired organic pasture raised eggs & sweet potatoes and boil them. Give them to my dog every other day to save $ on feed (both are vet approved but you cannot give dogs eggs too often) I supplement with the dog food. Check with your Vet first, dogs can only have certain fruits & veges and only so many eggs. I also took out the old potatoes and buried them in my compost pile, still getting free delicious potatoes from that. See a UA-cam video on how to do that
Great money saving tips - minus the tp recycling lol. I loved the guitars, sorry to hear you are no longer playing.
I still play, but mainly with the classical guitar.
I would love to see this in a podcast!!!
Practical tips as always thank you!!
Happy weekend, El Augustin!
Pretty good info, I been learning about your channel. I finally got brave to chance my home and car insurance and saved $500 .00
I was with the same company for 15 years and for the reason did not want to move.
what website did you use to compare
ElAgustin smashing it with the content :) any progress with the house move mate? Much love from Cambridge England
Great, helpful content! Thanks!
One of the ways to save money through smaller spending comes from the great Amy Dacyczyn of the Tightwad Gazette. She used to say that it was important to ask yourself the question, "If I am paying twice as much for this item as I would for an alternative, is it twice as good as the alternative?" Turns out when you put it like that, a lot of people don't feel like they are getting additional value for their money when they buy a luxury brand. If you ask yourself the question, "I'm paying twice as much, so is it twice as good?" and the answer is "not really," maybe it's time to scale back and find alternatives.
Excellent tips
Thank you ElAgustin!
I was waiting for your video, and just went i went to check, you posted it a minute ago lol.
Are you in Georgia yet?

@@ElAgustin well good, I am glad you made it safe. New Year, new changes!
Austin, please talk about gold investment for your next videos. I wanted to know your insights. Thank you.
I’ve decided not spending anything this month and so far, so good.
I find it easier to spend less than earn more
Enjoy your week!
I always buy food for only 4 meals for 5 days. So Monday to Friday. On Friday I eat all the leftovers, like 2 eggs and 1 carrot. I don't mind strange combinations anymore.
I buy almost no paper anything. I buy 1 roll of paper towels a year. I use dishrags. I also switched to using a Tushy bidet and reusable toilet paper. I keep a couple of rolls in case there is a guest. You DO need access to a washing machine and bleach. I am a traveling nurse and install my bidet into every house, hotel room and Airbnb I rent while on a contract. I know it makes people uncomfortable to hear about it but no one goes back to paper once they start.

I'm guessing Ebay to get the best price.
You do know that dividends is not extra money IT lowers the volume of a stock... it's not extra cash look it up
Do you invest in any individual stocks? Might be a cool video idea if you do!
He invests with the stocks Warren Buffett advises people to invest in which he discussed.
You don’t know what he has in his portfolio unless he decides to show his audience. I don't buy dish soap anymore, I use Native Soap on everything. I think that is great. Healthcare in US is a business
I would gladly pay that extra 12% to know that EVERY AMERICAN had decent healthcare..I will be paying off a 32k bill for an emergency appendectomy for the next 12 years
bad advise, doing so giving the government loan without interest. Why giving government free loan? Throw the extra to high yield to earn interest.
We can't ignore the potential impact on portfolios. Bonds are often considered a safe haven, and if they crumble, investors like me might scramble. I’ve been investing for 11 yrs and my $1m portfolio has never been this depleted, how i do hedge this?
The professionals presently control the market since they not only have the essential business strategy but also have access to inside information that the general public is not aware of.
You have a very valid point, I started investing on my own and for a long time, the market was really ripping me off. I decided to hire a CFA, even though I was skeptical at first, and I beat the market by more than 9%. I thought it was a fluke until it happened two years in a row, and so I’ve been sticking to investing via an analyst.

Why would you ever give the irs tax free money? You are deluded
You lost me when you said to give more money to the government so they can hold onto it for upwards of a year completely free of charge. I guess everyone has different ways of handling money, but I like to keep more of my money with me where I can control it to make more money. When you give it to the government to hold onto you instantly lose the ability to make more money with it for at least a year.
What you can just make more once you get it back the very next year!!!! WTF as long as you get it at some point you can just make more once you get it right? Now if your broke you already have a serious problem full stop!!!
