Flair vs Michaels at WrestleMania 24 is the only match that made me cry as a fan. They really made me believe at that time that it would be Ric Flair's last match ever. I was only 17 years old at the time, but I felt so stupid afterwards when he continued wrestling.

As far as WWE is concerned, that was his last match. Reason being doctors were telling Vince that Flair would basically die in the ring if he kept going like he was. So Vince gave him one last run and let him pick his final opponent. Flair had said years earlier befire WM24 that he wanted his last match to be against Hunter or Shawn.

As far as I'm concerned, Ric Flair's match with Shawn Michaels from 'WWE WrestleMania 24' is technically considered to be Ric Flair's final match--in both pro wrestling & WWE, respectively.

To those saying that Flair should never have wrestled again - I agree, to an extent. BUT, I'm perhaps one of the few that isn't bothered by a wrestler having the odd match after a 'career ending' match. It's an easy plot device to get around, and here is the narrative:
A wrestling 'career' should ALWAYS (no exceptions) be about striving to win matches to move up the ranks and win titles. A 'fight' or a 'match' held in isolation, where the fighter has no intention of long-term chasing of a championship is not a career, it's just a fight, and you don't need to have a career to just have a fight because you 'hate' someone else (kayfabe). It would only be stepping back into a career if trying to get in line for a championship.
    That's my opinion anyway.
