I play acoustic guitar for three years now and songs like this keep me motivated, knowing that i will be able to play this (even poorly) one day will always be enough for me to put a guitar in my lap.
@shwiing89 The tuning for the first piece seems to be open Dm, but tuned down a halftone to C#-G#-C#-E-G#-C#. Second piece is C#-G#-C#-F-G#-C#, so like open D (but still halftone down). Anyway, what an amazing 2 pieces of guitarmusic!
@neek49 Thanks for this video. I doubt this has caused any confusion as to the title, but this version is in open C#, and Marli on the album is in open A#. I was up late celebrating my new baritone learning this tune (what an easy piece) and it sounded really strange at first when watching him in hyper drive looking for tips. My whole point of commenting in the first place was to call you a comment goalie. A comment goalie with excellent taste. Ewan is superbad! Great Videos.

In his new album, the second composition is called "fun" But was recorded a couple of steps down from this version, I personally prefer this version. What does everyone else think?
@tasslebear82 Well said. Not too much like Ebon Coast at all. I really thought he sounded like a machine built to play guitar on his first album, but his newer work seems to encompass way more emotion and diversity. I'm a guitar teacher (vast majority being kids) and I'm frequently asked who the best is. Candyrat has probably 5 of the 7 best modern fingerers I can name, and Ewan just pretty much blows them all away. He is to guitar as Tom "Ice Man" Kazansky is to fighter jets.
I have to admit this is the most "normal" sounding composition I've heard out of Ewan. I'm not saying that negatively, most of his stuff has a very Ewan feel to it (and there are glimpses of it here still) but this composition feels decidedly more like some of what the other fingerstylists are composing... I like it!
i dont think this sounds anything like ebon coast... and as much as i love andy mckee's music, i think he'd be hard pushed to play alot of ewan's tunes. In my opinion ewan is technically (both right and left hands) the best guitarist in candyrat.. thats just my opinion tho

I think this sounds like a prototype version of Marli... Perhaps it wasn't titled back then.
The part at 4:19 - 4:30 is absolutely beautiful. Can't wait to hear the second album.

Actually, I prefer that C# scale instead of the A# scale that we find in the album ... awesome picking anyway.
