Love the longbows. I like the comfort of fighting the opponent from halfway across the map.

I think that's what the Hundred Years War looks like *before* the birth of Joan of Arc
The Joan of Arc experience is thousands of dead English longbowmen and tons of breached English Castles in Normandy and Brittany.
@@tomh4754 - She was ambushed and captured, yes. But she wasn't even captured by the Brits. She stayed behind in rearguard action to let her ambushed army get away from the Burgundians. It's not like she was "defeated" in the style of the lopsided victories that Dehaan is referencing. We're talking nearly a century later.
Crecy and similar were early on in the 100 years war. Jeanne came towards the end. She was the beginning of the end for the Brits, executed or not. By the time she died, the French were breaking the sieges of their cities and forcing the English to hide in their castles, and then forcing surrenders with cannon. Those same Burgundians switched sides soon after, and it was goodnight for England.
@@tomh4754 - You're right, I should have just said Crecy (and/or Poitiers). I will amend that one. Be that as it may, the rest of what I said is correct. Jeanne was never involved in the sort of mass-longbow lopsided English victory being referenced. It _definitely_ wasn't her downfall, which ultimately wasn't even England's doing, but Burgundy's. And by her death, England was as good as cooked. They did not have the means to continue projecting any sort of sufficient power alone across the channel, and once the Burgundians realized that, they were gone.

The reason viper doesn't like that some techs like warwolf are more expensive is he often won't get to use them because he will have already have killed his opponent.

this is basically an accurate recreation of the reason of the battle of the battle of Agincourt.

But hey, they were fire arrows. Castles did burn in those days, lots of timber in them. Of course in the AOE world, mangonels and scorpions were robotic, didn't need people to push them around, load them. Rams, boats too.
The steel beams in the building wouldnt have melted though so it definitely would've been an inside job.

@@xhawkenx633 Huskarls and rams with a bunch of infantry inside maybe. But otherwise, as viper said, even SO the traditional counter can't approach due to their range. The only real counter is to counterattack like his opp did, he just didn't have enough army. Longbow can't be everywhere at once so raiding is best counter.
Otherwise, against 150 longbow, probably 80 frank paladin can do the job. And that's about the only counter, besides huskarls.

Question: is the pathing in DE different from HD or original?
I'm asking because I'm curious if they improved it. The pathing in original and HD was not amazing, bad pathing is a big turnoff for me in strategy games (that's why I can't bring myself to replay Starcraft 1).
viper can i ask u why u put villager inside of lumber camp between trees is it because its one villager safe? or is it effective?
Extra efficiency - this villager will not bump into others and the walking distance to dump resources will be minimized
Viper at the end of a mastapiece game or any game really can you give your opinion on what your opponent should have done to counter? Don't have to go in full detail but kind of like you did at the end of the all scout video.

The grid is already in your settings. The mods are in the game menu called “Mods”

I don't know about box formation but putting pikes/halbs in front of your longbows is definitely a good thing. Probably not in box formation though because its easy to break through a single "layer" of halbs
