Not too many things in life are better than the first start at night after working on it all day with your buddies.
Brandon G no sir
Definitely not.
I just did the front inlet in my E92XI last night.
The smile on my face when I started it, was priceless.
Exactly right 😭😂
This is a fact!!!!
Wanna another build? My car is yours 2007 335I 113,000 miles. Do what you want but i want it back when your done and dont mess up my interior lol
i like how detailed your walk through is ..legit ..subscribed
I hardly ever comment on UA-cam videos, but wanted to reach out to you guys. I recently installed an ST kit on my 135i and watched this video probably a dozen times. It was excellent for reference and helped me out immensely on a bunch of stuff (like installing the coolant pipe and block fittings before the manifold). Documenting all this was much appreciated!
Thank you guys for doing this video. I just did upgrade twins but if and when they go, I'll be going single. Thanks again, respect!
Ariano Robb Thank you!!
Good jobs guys! Only true enthusiast would make to the end. Im sure this video will blow up when people understand n54 is better than 2jz.
dapz325 show me proof it's better 📸
dapz325 I own a 07 335i and if say if still rather a the crazy sounds of a 2j
Almost all the 3 liter inline 6 cyl engines are better than 2JZ.
Mile high 2jz been done no 2jz has seen 100k miles of 800+ horsepower, what you failed to see is that the n54 is better than a hellcat, it has suspension that wasn't made by chrystler thank God and it has proven reliability on the streets and the track at ouragous numbers ,....better than 2jz?dude it's in competition for the best and most capable fucking engine ever and that includes supercar v10s and v12s the 2jz is a flimsy piece of crap compared to the n54,the even funnier thing about this all is that I am absolutely the most pro Toyota and Lexus guy fucking ever I do not love a company more Than Toyota, I see the pioneering in all of their cars that people who only like the surpras just never will, I currently have 6 cars 2 of them are toyota/Lexus both Lexus engines but if I had 100 cars 80 of them would be Lexus, old foriegns were good for what they were, good potential for cheap cars, amazing reliability and durability but you start talking about non stock shit and drag race pushing an engine to the point where the block needs to be thicker to even handle the power, there is no comparison the 2jz is a toaster and the n54 is a fucking submarine
Mile high 2jz go ahead go look for a n54 that's blown because of too much tuning, you won't fucking find it this engine can handle more than wheels or tires or driveshafts even made in aftermarket , the 2jz will go for high numbers don't get me wrong BUT when you start talking supercar horsepower 600-800-1000 whp, the 2jz is a ticking time bomb in comparison and obviously not as well equipped stock you'd have to replace literally everything to be able to handle it,...more money.....less purpose
"Now thats fkig touching dude? I quit! LOL
Amazing work guys! Thanks for taking the time to share so many details!! 👏🏾💪🏽
3 years late but im so glad I found your page. Subscribed !! Thanks for the info. It really helped
you guy make a good team keep up the awesome work.
OMG its great job guys. Respect from Czech republic. I love BMW and this is the greatest Turbo install i ever see. Thumbs up !
You guys know your shits!!! I used to wrench all the time and still do once in awhile. I built my 93 mustang motor back in 94 with aluminum heads cam everything you can imagine including a Vortech S Trim. I just put some Tein suspension on my Mercedes. You guys did some decent work though👍👍👍
Great detailed video. Love to do a single to my 135i. Make me realise I could prob do this with enough time and patience in my garage.
A good buddy that's cool headed and not afraid to pitch in is invaluable. Few and far between to find them. Even better one with a great sense of humor. LOL.
Seriuosly you guys are AWESOME! This is the best DIY video on a very crucial and wanted build. The N54 platform is only now really exploding because they are so plentiful and you can get them so cheap! The market for after market parts and videos like this is just exploding IMHO. I just bought one for $1500.00 USD threw a High pressure fuel pump in it did a wheel bearing and have been throwing the parts from China at it for the last three months while driving it. It's KILLER! People keep saying "These are too expensive to run so they aren't a very good bargain. But it's the complete opposite. Buy them very cheap with something wrong that non DIYer's don't want to pay to fix. Do it yourself for dirt cheap with Chinese parts and go baby go. Just use the OEM parts when it really counts. LOL. But most the Chinese parts work fine and sometimes better than the OEM. Testing has been going on on them through the "0 to 60" guys on TY. They LOVE "Budget Bimmers" Big time too!
piss poor engineering on the turbo kit. Good video tho. in process of upgrading to stage 2+ on my e92. did oil pan gasket while im there.
How'd all the fiberglass feel on your arms after holding the wrapped manifold like that?
Either way awesome video I enjoyed it! lol
Also I would recommend getting the diesel expansion tank as it mounts to the stock location for a diesel. And you can then reuse the brackets for the power steering to mount where the little groove/circle shape is on the expansion tank. Also pick up some brass T fittings for the wastegates.
Fuck fiberglass 😅
i feel like a single turbo is so much more power with less maintenance hassle. Is this true?
Indeed
she fucking runs, and she spools lmao! classic
The coolant is driving my gear head nuts! Suggestion, pick up a three gallon fuel can and label it coolant, then premix the water and coolant in that so it will be 50/50 mixed. Great video's, keep up the good work.
How did you learn how to do this
DRE 4HUNNIDD time. I can only say with time you'll learn everything you want to know about cars. Unless he went to school idk
@@nickclare3675 Snap on is the most budget brand of tools, they're not very good imo
Damn great video and I wish we were neighbors! I'm inspired to do more work on my problem child n54 now lol.
in 2001, I got tired of superchargers on my mustang and installed a turbo kit. I was hooked! currently driving an S55 M3 but want a N54 car for fun. Thinking about a 335 or Z4.
Get a 335i bro better interior and exterior. These things are beautiful
2004 Z4 looks good to turbo
9:27 - that’s what she said.
Good job . Can you hyper- link the hardware you purchased ? We would like to follow to install in our bmw. Thanks
Thank you so much to take the time and make this video now I'm confident to do single turbo my self
Juan Mireles it's a pain. I replaced twins on a 335 before and it's stupid annoying
AndrewKidd14145 so you recommend to take it to a shop instead?
Juan Mireles Do you have any mechanical experience?
AndrewKidd14145 no but you learn on the way
Juan Mireles you are right but it is a very difficult job. Get a Bentley manual and do it. And take all the time you need
Another awesome vid hahah I like how you guys keep it real man , makes it more do able seeing how you guys can work together and get it done. btw where did you get that car lift??
Brandon Williams Thanks man! And here's a link to the jack

Nice work boys ... from a fellow BM lover .... GG. Cant wait to see the complete job ... what are you expecting through the wheel as regards HP? I have seen on on YT that is 900 ... crazy mad. LOVE YA WORK .... luv fr New Zealand
Paul Caunter Thank You! I'm hoping to get 7-800 once I have proper fueling!
cant wait for you to complete the job ..... will be following this every step .... are your processes and systems unique in relation to your tweaks? I can feel the love and the passion ... as for the last video :) I am still grinning .... respect u ledges! Fukin fly you 2 to NZ - lol
@budget bimmers, i hope read and reply......
- this is the best video of how install the turbo kit, and thats why i jump over this kit from others.
first of all i have questions about the kit... many parts like water pump and others are new. is included on doc turbo kit? or need to buy in other place?... basicly i want know what parts are needed for hold 600 TORQUE, example, fuel stage 2/3 return line, fuel direct port kit, clutch, something else? i hope soon reply...
How can this be a budget BMW if the kit costs 4500 dollars?
Best UA-cam Compilations lol ikr so much for “budget”
They're installing it them selves instead of taking it to a shop and paying a crap ton more money on labor.
Ian Boykin that’s cool an all, but it still isn’t a “budget” project. I don’t know if u saw that UA-camd who build a turbo civic for $500. But check him out. That’s a budget project.
Don’t get me wrong they’re pretty knowledgeable of what they are taking out an putting back in. Kudos to them.
4500 is cheap in the bmw world lol
Very detailed video lads wicked 👍🏼definitely gonna help me a lot for sure...
Quick question tho how did you run the vacuum lines from the wastegates to the solenoid etc?
at the end of the day how much did you end up spending to convert from the stock twins to single turbo?
The doc kit starts at 5k
I feel your frustrations, and you have the right to vent, seams like no matter what is to be worked on, out if the "only 3" bolts there's always 1 that either strip out, breaks off, or simply can not be reached and that's after you are forced to remove atleast 2 other devices in totally unrelated systems that aren't being worked on, but now require a bolt, or gasket, or wire because they are now removed, every task on any other car you'd say, "ohh that'll take an hour or 2" but not on a bmw....you start off thinking or saying that....and then Patrick comes out with his signs... BUT when finished...I'm all smiles too, until the next repair or mod, has to be done, thanks for sharing , I'm thinking of adding a turbo to my non turbo 2006 325i e9x, but I'll be at it all alone, maybe if I do you 2 can come help, and catch it for your you tube channel, I haven't seen any for that mod yet.. have fun and safe driving guys!
Hey I having the same problem with the 02 sensors. But I switched it n same problem. The front sensor closest to the front bumper goes to the long wire on the o2 harness?
cassy wain bank 1 is the plug toward the front and bank 2 is the rear plug. Make sure you reset adaptations
How much does everything end up cost to swap to ST?
ThatR6Life the kit itself was 5300, and that included pretty much everything you need, minus a clutch and bolt ons
After this vid I followed a lot of what you did to pull my k member on my 2008 335xi and doing an oil pan gasket!! Your videos are great you guys helped me more than my Bentley manual could ever do. Thank you for the videos !!!
Great guide. I love high skill level N54 DIY videos!
The subframe bolts..did you reuse them if not you wouldn't still have numbers used?? Called fcp 3 times got different part numbers each time.
My oil feed fitting is slightly leaking the elbow on top of the turbo.. did you just hand tighten it towards the driver side?? That’s what I did and it wouldn’t move anymore so assume that was correct. I could tap it with a wrench and hammer for one more rotation but was wondering if I was missing something like a gasket or maybe loctite didn’t see you do anything besides hand tighten it. Don’t know why my elbow is slightly leaking 😕
I have some questions about the kit if yall wouldn't mind helping me out. Would be much appreciated
Rhode Island boys stand up!!
What was so hard it was a bolt on kit nothing had to be fabbed up so should be easy,.
How much was the kit 4/5k?
What is wrong with the old twin turbos why would I want to change them out and spend all that money for a single turbo when everybody knows two is better than one because they are tune for low and to reduce turbo lag
Is there any benefits to going single?
Top secret cant hyperlink parts. Ha ha.
Isn’t the coolant suppose to be added only 50/50 with distilled water? You guys added straight coolant. Is that ok or bad to run?
LFA 359 hoses will start o leak, plastic coolant reservoir might develop a leak. Not ok.
"CRACK OPEN A BARS FOR TURBO" this had me dying lmaoo how much did this whole project run you? Im looking into doing this in a month or two. Any tips?
ivan jimenez probably around 7-8k, I did all preventative maintenance as well. And make sure you have plenty of time to work and don't rush!
What happens when. You smog it I live in California I'm not sure if it will all have to be taken out? Or is it a legal installation with serial numbers?
@@Kwtints ull need "a guy" hmu if u need that.
Just me that watches this over and over?
Do you guys have a part two, running the car?
Hey guys, first and foremost great job on this series of videos. Love the dedication. I'm researching with regard to all the parts to purchase before I start to work on my car, I see you bought the turbo kit and clutch. Were there any parts that you needed that didnt come with the kit? Or were all the necessary components included. Cheers. Nathan
Also is there anything you wish you had done while down there or done differently.
How are the vacuum hoses route from the two Turbosmart wastegates to the single turbo?
Love the build. You guys are awesome, & frankly I've been inspired. I'm looking forward to doing a similar build for my future e90
This is a sick video, thanks for sharing the whole process
"Do you fucking mind" 😂😂😂 funniest shit ever 😂💀
Hey man I have a 2008 bmw 535xi and my problem is the water keep running after shutting off the car and my oil level sensor is stuck on minimum even after an oil change and the oil service won’t reset I already replaced the water pump, thermostat, alternator, and oil level sensor but the problem still there please help
I’m getting a code 002E7C Bit-serial data interface signal is what it showing with the Carly bmw app full version
Alternator, water pump & oil level sensor all work on BSD to communicate with the DME. In case communication with the DME is lost the water pump keeps running as a backup strategy and because it has it’s own power feed straight from the power distribution box on top of the battery. Any failed module on the Bit Serial Data network can disrupt all comunication on the network. Try unplugging the IBS sensor (little block on the - terminal on the battery with small wires attached ). This sensor is also on BSD. If that solves your problem replace IBS. If not check continuity with a multimeter between the BSD wire on the DME and all plugs of all devices on the BSD network. If they all have continuity to the DME then measure resistance between BSD wire and ground, this should be a really large if not infinte resistance if there are no shorts to ground. If there are, find and fix them.
Good afternoon, tell me where did you get the exhaust manifold?
Иван Сергеев Docrace.com
I’m in the market for an older 335xi e90 if anyone has any leads
Where are you guys located? I'm sending my car to you guys to install my single turbo kit also 😂
Mel B Rhode Island!
Back at it again 😂💀
Just curious how much would a job like this cost someone if you took it to a shop to get installed???
typejlb I'd guess at least $2000 just for labor
@@BudgetBimmers 1600 to 1800$
Keep it up guys!!! I love the channel
25:39 Absolutely. "THAT'S IT! WE'RE DONE!! FORGET IT!! I DON'T CARE!!! I JUST.....I JUST.....I...I.... NO!!! I'M THROUGH AND WE'RE OUTTA HERE!! PUT IT ALL BACK!!! IT'S JUST... I'M NOT DOING THIS!!! PUT IT BACK!!! PUT IT ALL BACK MAN!! IT'S OVER!! "Well....okay....I guess I should just.... take 5 minutes and try to relax. I'm Sorry. I just.....IT'S THOSE STUPID FREAKIN TORX BOLTS MAN!!! No, no no I'm okay sorry sorry. No I'm good now. I'll be alright." LOL. (That's the edited out parts. LOL At least it is during my builds).
Every video skips over how to wire up the Mac boost solenoid
Anyone know a good turbo kit for a D16y7 Honda?
hey guys, i already subscribed, but how do i do it again
Hi, i have a question. Just installed my docrace 6266 and it is smoking under the turbo side. Not sure what is going on. It only smoke bad when i do a hard pull. Cold start doesnt smoke. Do you think its just the oil burning inside the turbo because it is new?
Good job guys
What happened to all the cars E46 turbo etc?
Does every car guy have bad taste in music?
I have a question that you might be able to answer. I have a bmw 335i and i was wondering what could be causing it to smoke. I start up the car fine, it gets up to temp, then when your coming to a stop it starts to smoke blueish smoke. I already changed the pcv valve and that wasn’t the problem. I think the turbos or turbo seals might be bad but I don’t know a lot about cars. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks guys.
Why did you do this double is every time better then one
Gents, quick question, may you send me a link to the programming applications and tools AND, do you know anything about the FRM module?
kiwi S What program are you talking about? And the frm module which is commonly referred to as the footwell module, controls lights in the car and it's common for it to fail.
do you have programming tools to read the FRM - I am in Canada and I have a really hard time finding the programing applications
Google "car technology forum", however be prepared to donate ~20$ to see attachments. The applications you'll want to know about are called ISTA-D (Diagnostics) and ISTA-P (Programming). There's also the outdated INPA and NCS tools for basic coding tasks. An ICOM adapter (~400$) is recommended for ISTA tools and if you're wanting/planning to keep your car for a while.
So my twin turbo bmw 335i went out I have to get new turbos I was thinking about doing a single turbo what do you think about this? What are your thoughts about the single does it affect other things in the car?
Nice work!
Guys i didnt get it what brand of turbo is that? Is that precision turbo?
Are n54. Four Val es per cylinder?
Very nice, afaik, I don't think I've seen a single turbo install video. I usually ask when I see someone upgrade their turbos, why single, why doc race, and why not upgraded twins?
Smokkedandslammed Single =more boost with quite a lot of lag.
Twin is sequential so smooth boost but less.
And also 2 turbos are more expensive than one.
The single lag is not as bad as everyone things, I have full boost at 2300~rpm. Plus the sounds it makes are amazing
Budget Bimmers My front turbo blew it's seal, I got the DOCRace kit on order. Your subframe is so much easier to take off than mine 😭 I just HAD to have xdrive lol I'm trying to do everything around the subframe and just undo the motor mounts and use an engine support bar to pull the engine up to get more room
Smokkedandslammed how did you discover the seal was blown ? I’m chasing leaks now 😑..
Put a turbo in my e85 please 😭😭
FYI That kit is listed 5000$ on ECS. not sure if that's the actual price but it's value. I can't afford it atm and not even sure if it's legal (or my insurance allows me) to do this in Canada
i don't have one of these cars but I always thought they were pretty cool after I saw one with bov and some other mods. I was just wondering why do you put a single turbo in place of twin turbo? Or were the stock ones going back and you didn't want to pay as much or do you get more performance from 1 big turbo?
You guys are fucking awesome!!!!
my toxic trait is thinking i can do this alone
I have a question for you guys even though this was a while ago. Where did you connect the hose that would run from the compressor intake side to the crankcase or pcv valve. ? I have a catch can and want to run the turbo guard but don't know where to run this hose or if I should block it..??
Can this be done on a 2011 F10 535i N55?
How much those a single turbo runs
Is this harder than doing a twin turbo upgrade? Ive done twins and thinking anout a single turbo build for the next e92 im getting
The « do you fxcking mind » at 26:16 deserved a subscription 😂😂😂
You can i stall the springs on the waste gates with just one person. Just use long threaded rods so you aren't holding the cap down with your hand and trying to thread the screws in
I have a DOC race kit with a 6466gen2, I'm running the black and red springs (14.5psi) Do you think that's too high?
hey did you guys ever try upgrading the twin turbo setup? Thats kinda budget is it not? Like 5 times cheaper..
Why is single turbo better as biturbo?
Hey, so after the install i see you guys were driving the car did you beat on it or no also you were on map 1 on jb4 right?
Is that an aftermarket water pump or oem?
How many hours would you say to install
only 18k subs, you deserve loads more!!! wondering what the hell you do for a job tho, mega money for this shit !
How much clearance did you get after the washers. I have 2 and im not hitting but only by .5mm.
Hey guys how much will you charge me to do mine? I have the same car e92 335i coupe 2010
How much would you say an single turbo setup would cost? Roughly, I know that at really depends what brand and level of parts you choose.
u guys are awsome
awesome vídeo dudes!!!!
Hey guys where do I have to connect the EGR sensor and the hose? I'm working on a 2010 335i n54
