    That's a really nice set up mate. Well done. I've got a 2010 SR5 diesel (manual) that I've had since new. I've got 430000 odd kms on it. Factory serviced until the warranty expired and now do all my own servicing (I'm not a mechanic) factory bullbar and winch, with a 2 inch lift. Still running the factory alloys (15 inches) and run Bridgestone AT's which have been a good tyre for me. It's a daily driver with a Silverback Gal tray, but she gets a lot of use with camping etc, done a few knarly tracks up here in Nth Qld and it's not let me down. They're a great rig.

    Cheers for taking the time to make this video you have given me a couple of ideas for the next stage of my n70's life and dismissed any reliability concerns i once had for the petrol variant, my 1kd in a 08 workman is just about to tick over 400 kms 140 of those with me and the usual ebay performance bolt ons (less than the cost of a new set of 35's) with a ecu reflash I went from 88kw atw to 147kw atw with only a 1.5 psi increase in peak boost and overall better highway economy and lower egt's and hasn't shown any signs of slowing down yet apart from stripping 3rd and 4th gears/syncro hubs in 3 gearboxes to date which i can live with, look forward to your future videos thanks from New Zealand

      Thanks for watching man! As long as they’re serviced regularly and properly maintained I see no reason why any hilux shouldn’t get past 500,000k’s and still be reliable. Would love to go wheeling in NZ absolutely stunning country!

    You got my attention with the modification you did on the wiring regarding the front diff lock disconnect, thereby having low range in 2wd. I thought about doing this a lot, never got so far as to actually do it, care to share some info regarding the wiring?

    • @HaydnKamp

      It’s been years since I installed the switch, I’m sure if you search forums enough you can find the wire to tap the switch into. Only works for the SR5 with the ADD feature too.
      Super handy and simple mod 👍🏼

    Also, if you're ever looking for more power have a look at the superchargers for that 1GR-FE motor, they came factory from the 2008 TRD Hilux 4000SL which has the same motor so if you can find one they pack a bit of a punch and would bolt straight on. It's a Magnuson MP90 Supercharger if you wanna take a look at it

    What an awesome rig. I especially love the 2wd low range reverse - I am going to wire that up myself now. (I have the same car but diesel dual cab). I have been wanting 33's but always figured I needed a 3" lift (only have 2"). For the 2 inch body lift you only had to adjust the radiator? And with the side steps, basically you would just have a gap if you didn't cut and weld them right? Not such a big deal yeah. I've taken a fair few notes from this run through, and got some great wish list options, thanks.

    • @HaydnKamp
      @HaydnKamp  2 роки тому +2

      Cheers man!
      Yeah low range 2wd is such a handy mod!
      For 33’s you could get away without a body lift just might have to space the bump stop a little bit and do some trimming.
      If your body lifting it, it’s just radiator and steering extension. If you have a tub you’ll need to extend the filler too.
      No big deal if you don’t lift bar work up to suit the cab, just looks funny.

    • @HaydnKamp
      @HaydnKamp  3 роки тому +2

      Personal preference. Have spent a
      lot of time in three V6 petrols naturally aspirated, two TRD models with the supercharged V6 petrol, and two 3.0L diesels all in the N70 hiluxs. Driven all motor options with manual and auto behind them and I’d prefer the petrol over the diesel everyday.
      They drive a lot nicer and are very reliable cheaper servicing cost also and cheaper to repair, also there’s the argument of spending more money initially to get a 3.0L diesel and on top of that, then spending money on larger turbo, front mount intercooler, larger injectors, custom dyno tune, larger exhaust, custom hiflo airbox and snorkel. All to make the diesel just as fast and drivable as a stock petrol motor.
      But it’s a personal preference, some people just like the idea of black smoke coming out of the exhaust and spending thousands on their motor to beat a Hyundai Getz from the lights and that’s their thing 🤷🏼‍♂️

    How is the behavior of the front locker when you are in two-wheel drive? It makes some noise? Your truck is amazing congratulations.

    • @HaydnKamp
      @HaydnKamp  3 роки тому

      Because it’s an SR5 it has the ADD (auto diff disconnect) which disconnects one of the front axles when in 2wd. The locker then doesn’t ratchet with only one wheel driving it so there is no noise or change in driving behaviour normally.
      However in the past I’ve had to temporarily lock that feature so both axles are connected like a conventional ifs without manual hubs. And when driving on the road it did make noise and I could feel it clicking through the steering wheel. Felt horrible when turning tight corners, made me replace the ADD unit pretty quickly 😅
      Cheers man!

      Easy enough room for a dog, I’ve done a few road trips with two sometimes three mates over 6 ft in the back and they survived. Wouldn’t say they could feel their legs after a few hours of driving but that’ll teach them for not having a 4wd 😅
